You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give the staffroom password just in case it attracts the wrong sort

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom and you will receive a detention

it then got lost. I* didn't lose it.

I am NOT a DfE mole on this thread. They'd have to pay more than £1000 for that job!

CarrieBlue · 06/02/2021 19:19

@MrsHamlet

That says "nail" doesn't it? I've been watching the rugby from behind my knitting and I'm now on the gin. Those people on the catch up thread are so bonkers. I've had a fine old time reporting!
At least one of them has been banned and posts removed, thankfully
chocolateisavegetable · 06/02/2021 19:21

I have chocolate cake and 2 bottles of gin

DreamingofBrie · 06/02/2021 19:23

And I'm staying. 2 reasons. One, they have given me my dream job of supporting our v vulnerable students in ways I've always wanted to. With the budget to do it. And more importantly my colleagues DD asked me to. She lost her mum in March and whatever happens now I'll stay until she finishes school. Wasn't even an option when she told me she'd hate school if I left. So big girl pants on and keep going.

You're a good woman mumsneedwine and I'm glad you landed your dream job! You popped into my thoughts the other night, I wandered what decision you'd come to!

I've been crocheting all afternoon whilst dh has been watching the rugby. Feel calmer for it!

Update from MNHQ on the "teachers are lazy b**ds" thread. A PBP - who would have thought eh?

MrsHerculePoirot · 06/02/2021 19:32

Shame, I was looking forward to finding out which schools pay over £1000 per week too!

HercwasanEnemyofEducation · 06/02/2021 19:34

I'm guessing my fuck offs will go too 🙈

I'm tempted to go to bed at 8pm and try and catch up on sleep.

MrsHamlet · 06/02/2021 19:35

Me too. My application was ready
noblegiraffe · 06/02/2021 19:46

A PBP - who would have thought eh?

It was bloody Ecosse. I reported them as a PBP at lunchtime but nothing happened except a response saying they'd look into it. Then this evening I reported again saying 'er, they're still posting' and got a 'yep, they're a pbp and will be deleted'.

Dawn is a good mod IME.

noblegiraffe · 06/02/2021 19:48

@HercwasanEnemyofEducation

noble the emotional check in is one of the highlights of every desmos lesson. I love the feedback and it often leads to some lovely conversations that would happen automatically in a classroom but online there's no spark.
Where do you have those conversations? I want more conversations with my mute classes.
noblegiraffe · 06/02/2021 19:52

I am NOT a DfE mole on this thread.

HercwasanEnemyofEducation · 06/02/2021 19:53

On teams, they will type things in desmos like "it's my birthday" or "my dog died". Then on teams if I mention it, they will unmute and chat. Obviously anything sensitive I'm vague about, a couple of the boys said they were struggling mentally. I said to the group "I can see some of you are finding it hard... Any words of encouragement/advice" and they had a chat with each other. I'm not a naturally touchy feely teacher (I care about them obvs) but I think there's not many other lessons where they can say stuff that only I can see.

JanFebAnyMonth · 06/02/2021 20:04

So noble, not only are you in with Nickybabes, you know the MN mods well enough to be able to rate them? Respect.

JanFebAnyMonth · 06/02/2021 20:05

(Am not referring to the Minister in such informal terms because I know him personally...)

I slept for over 16hrs! Ds came in and turned the light on to check if I was alive and I grumbled about being woken up in the middle of the night only to find it was actually the next evening.

I need to get some work done tomorrow recording lessons. Planned to do it today then slept through it.

Going to avoid the main boards. Sounds hellish out there from what I've read on here.

JanFebAnyMonth · 06/02/2021 20:41

Wow honey! Do you feel great now?

Had DS fed himself n stuff? Ok, I recall he's the same age as mine. They don't see any needs apart from internet and food. So I presume he'd fed himself.

EnemyOfEducationNo1 · 06/02/2021 20:46

Random question. Do you think there is any point in a late 40s teacher with a degree 20 years old in applying for a trainee post that specifies you must be a graduate??

MrsHamlet · 06/02/2021 20:49

If you have to be a graduate, and are - why not?

EnemyOfEducationNo1 · 06/02/2021 20:53

Just thinking I'm too old, there will be young fresh graduates etc

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 06/02/2021 20:54

I'm an awful parent. I just managed to make my child read to me for the first time in about 2 months. She's definitely gone backwards since then. She'll read for partner, but he cheats for her a bit, and that's obvious right now. Just ordered loads of Project X books and am on it.

MrsHamlet · 06/02/2021 20:57

There will enemy but that doesn't mean you shouldn't go for it anyway. What've you got to lose?

EnemyOfEducationNo1 · 06/02/2021 20:58

That doesn't make you an awful parent. Just one who had had a lot on recently! If you've never provided or encouraged reading, even that would not be awful parenting. Sub Parr maybe, but not awful.
I made my youngest write words to earn chocolate mini eggs today. Before I because a parent I said I would never use food as a bribe! He's also either forgotten lots of his letter sounds or was playing..m

MrsHerculePoirot · 06/02/2021 21:20

@RuleWithAWoodenFoot my 6 yo is the same. We've been trying to get back on it again a bit this week... I keep saying we'll do loads in half term, but from previous lockdowns I am not so sure this will actually be the case....

@HercwasanEnemyofEducation - THANK YOU for the desmos with the self marking tables. Actually saved me even attempting working this out myself you are an ABSOLUTE LEGEND.

BustopherPonsonbyJones · 06/02/2021 21:23

I wonder why Ecosse hates teachers so much. Something dreadful must have happened to her/him in school.

I’d be bribed by chocolate mini-eggs. I love them. I’d take minstrels as an alternative.
