You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give the staffroom password just in case it attracts the wrong sort

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom and you will receive a detention

^I have at least been kept entertained this afternoon whilst I mark more work on Teams Grin

MrsHerculePoirot · 06/02/2021 18:20

@mumsneedwine I'm glad teaching hasn't lost you and that your friends DD has you there for you Flowers

JanFebAnyMonth · 06/02/2021 18:20

Is anyone else as shocked as I am by the many people shouting "bodily autonomy" on the 'should vax be compulsory?' thread?

Is there no thought that care and HCP staff might have to be vaccinated as some of them are now against other things. To protect their clients/patients.

People can be so self centred.

cornercupboard · 06/02/2021 18:21

I've reported several inaccurate posts on the longer school days thread.
Jeez.

namechangedyetagain · 06/02/2021 18:22

Absolutely please @borntobequiet . Should I dig out my ucas statement and go from there?
I think the child should be at the centre of everything we do, and the school also has the same belief (ie they don't coach for sats from December onwards). Do I put that in somewhere or is it too cheesy? Actual job description not out for another month or so yet so I can't match anything too precisely at the minute. But I want to start thinking about it.

I'd love to work there. Staff are so supportive of each other, so helpful. Of course if I didn't get a job placement 3 would be so painfulSad

mumsneedwine · 06/02/2021 18:22

@ChloeDecker already on it. Having a beer with the rugby 🍺

I definitely need a drink watching that game Sad

Timeturnerplease · 06/02/2021 18:40

Someone barricade the door in here and stop me from going out onto the main boards tonight. Pleeeease

Me too. DP watching football, worked late last night to get prepped for next week and I don’t fancy any books in the Kindle store.

This doesn’t bode well...

EnemyOfEducationNo1 · 06/02/2021 18:45

I will happily admit I want to leave teaching. But I don't know what else I want do do. I don't really want to go back to accountancy, and I'd have to requalify anyway

Piggywaspushed · 06/02/2021 18:55

I watch shit like The Masked Singer and The Voice and we have very friendly MN chats (well TMS can become a bit snippy!) so I am safe form the Boards of Doom.

Cantaloupeisland · 06/02/2021 18:56

Got sucked in on the longer days thread, argh. Some proper dickheads out there!

noblegiraffe · 06/02/2021 18:58

Trolls and Us4Them. Avoid.

noblegiraffe · 06/02/2021 19:01

Thanks for the Desmos links, Herc and MrsHP! I just open software and start pressing buttons so it's good to see what's possible from someone who has actually read the instructions Grin

Herc your lessons look great. I like the emotional check-in. Think we could do with one on this thread too!

borntobequiet · 06/02/2021 19:01

@namechangedyetagain, I suggest that you start again from scratch - or at least do the best you can with a first draft before looking at the UCAS statement - you’re no longer that person and have probably come a long way since then.
Write as much as you can. It doesn’t matter if it’s too long because it can be edited. Neither does it matter if it’s in the wrong order, because that can be sorted. Also don’t worry too much about spelling/grammar errors at this point, just get it on screen.
Save and leave alone for at least 12 hours. Then go back, correct any obvious mistakes, amend/delete/add stuff as needed. Then leave until job description is available. Then message me.

borntobequiet · 06/02/2021 19:03

Oh and if lost for a word, don’t hang about. Put XXXXX and return later. The word will come to you.

noblegiraffe · 06/02/2021 19:04

Oooh I meant to say GUESS WHO I GOT A LETTER FROM TODAY

noblegiraffe · 06/02/2021 19:09

Meant to attach their signature. We are on first name only terms clearly.

Not your favourite Education Secretary Ever?????

JanFebAnyMonth · 06/02/2021 19:11

... or Schools Minister???

JanFebAnyMonth · 06/02/2021 19:12

"Dear Noblegiraffe,

I just wanted to express my personal appreciation for your tireless work on Mumsnet...."

noblegiraffe · 06/02/2021 19:13

Can't expect Gav to actually put pen to paper, but yes, Mr Nick Gibb responding to my correspondence of 7th December

Bit out of date, Nick, tbh.

noblegiraffe · 06/02/2021 19:15

@JanFebAnyMonth

Uncanny! How did you know?! Grin
JanFebAnyMonth · 06/02/2021 19:16

Gav only signs letters with the wrong date on, of course.

Maybe Nick's has the wrong date on too? He wrote it just before Christmas, ''twas due to be posted in the New Year but l then it got lost in the piles of letters from parents praising schools!

MrsHamlet · 06/02/2021 19:16

That says "nail" doesn't it?
I've been watching the rugby from behind my knitting and I'm now on the gin. Those people on the catch up thread are so bonkers. I've had a fine old time reporting!

HercwasanEnemyofEducation · 06/02/2021 19:18

noble the emotional check in is one of the highlights of every desmos lesson. I love the feedback and it often leads to some lovely conversations that would happen automatically in a classroom but online there's no spark.
