You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give the staffroom password just in case it attracts the wrong sort

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom and you will receive a detention

Yeah I guess you're right.

So is their underlying fear just of the state's power being extended?

SansaSnark · 21/01/2021 15:25

I think their underlying agenda is eugenics, personally.

WhenSheWasBad · 21/01/2021 15:26

@JanuaryChill

Yeah I guess you're right.

So is their underlying fear just of the state's power being extended?

I think their slogan is something like *”You’re not the boss of me”

Said with approximately as much maturity as my 7 year old.

WhenSheWasBad · 21/01/2021 15:26

Damn it bold fail

borntobequiet · 21/01/2021 15:45

Thanks for reminding me to take out a subscription to Byline Times Rafals. It’s doing some excellent work in exposing these worrying links between shady right wing groups. (I’m by no means a left winger - just a little left of centre really.)

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 21/01/2021 16:13

I’m not sure it’s even civil liberties they are bothered about. Or at least not in general.

It seems to me like it’s very much a case of I don’t like not being able to do what I want so we should impose even tighter restrictions on other people so I can do what I want. It’s why they have a total melt down when you point out that the ‘vulnerable’ is a far bigger group than just the group already shielding.

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 21/01/2021 16:56

I think they are best described as absolute cretins.

Not one redeeming feature in any of the key characters.

MrsHamlet · 21/01/2021 16:59

You know how some days you just feel like it's all too much. Today.

A big steaming poop hit the fan yesterday and today's hysteria is sending me loopy. I need to have a rage cry and get it out but the Thursday night marking needs to be done first.

Please have a gin on standby for hater.

I'm having one of those. Kids in my class also having one of those. I read the class book on my end of day Teams meeting for 45 minutes. Just because. That's what we'd do in school.

In SLT, general feeling is that we're out until Easter. So, I put some time in to looking at next term today. FML.

Piggywaspushed · 21/01/2021 17:18

Did Priti Patel REALLY just say all the measures in schools are the usual covid measures!

TheHoneyBadger · 21/01/2021 17:19

Sorry mrsh.

Herd immunity agenda plus class hatred ie let it rip through schools and working class communities for as long as possible. Herd immunity but nimb. Make sure all the proles and their spawn get it.

Maybe. I doubt many of those types will give a damn about state dependent elders in care homes either.

Also this business of nurses are going to work, supermarkets are staffed etc. Well we definitely need food and medical care. I'm not convinced missing a couple of months of school is comparable to not having food or medical care. I'm not a bad teacher and what I do has worth but I'm not convinced learning about queen Elizabeth I is life or death stuff in the middle of a pandemic.

We can work from home and we're not actually critical workers imo in times like this.

noblegiraffe · 21/01/2021 17:24

What really gets me about Priti Patel, and this will make me sound like a bitch but it’s an observation not a judgement:
Her face looks like it belongs on a much thinner woman. It is a constant source of surprise to me when she moves from behind a lectern.

TheHoneyBadger · 21/01/2021 17:28

My sister used to position her children to cover her fat in photos Grin Maybe I should go into a role that involves standing behind lecterns.

Are vicars essential workers?

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 21/01/2021 17:28

I have a friend of a friend who is a Tory MP and used to work 'under' Patel. She's every bit as awful as everyone/rumours, say she is.

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 21/01/2021 17:29

Our vicar's kids have been in school the whole time since March.

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 21/01/2021 17:30

Got really annoyed on health branch again. Must. Stay. Away.

Yup. Indeed.
TheHoneyBadger · 21/01/2021 17:33

Could we have a bit of a straw poll? Who thinks their job is critical in a pandemic?

I mean your actual job of teaching about poems or food tech or simultaneous equations or film etc not the unofficial covering up of the failures of ss or camhs etc.

I also mean in the short term, in the face of a pandemic rather than normal times.

RandomGrammarPun · 21/01/2021 17:34

Irony.

Increased fines for illegal gatherings.

Schools would constitute illegal gatherings if they weren't schools. Even with current numbers in and even in secondary schools. And. Still. We. Don't. Have. Masks.

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 21/01/2021 17:36

Here are the heatmaps for Covid detected cases, positivity, hospitalizations, & ICU admissions. Week to 17 Jan 2021.

Detected cases decreasing in all 5+ age groups (plateauing in under 5s) but community positivity increasing slightly in 50+ females.

Oh look - nurseries are open = plateauing cases, 50+ females still out in it doing caring roles = increasing.

Interesting.

I teach 7 - 9 year olds. I think that keeping maths going is quite good for them. I think teaching them different art skills is good for them - lots of practice time. I think we should be reading brilliant books, writing about those books, drawing things in those books, finding out about the geography in those books, the history in those books. I think I could enthuse, distract, engage etc, if I could teach like that right now. Same as I did back in the summer when we were off curriculum.

Now I have to teach complex sentences though - scream. Utterly pointless.

I think I'm a babysitter for ks3 at the moment, largely due to the fact restrictions have decimated what I can teach. I wouldn't say I was critical in the best of times Grin
MrsHamlet · 21/01/2021 17:49

I'm not sure dragging year 10 through the crock of shite anthology poems is ever critical

Monkeytennis97 · 21/01/2021 17:50

When I say babysitter I mean when I was in from September-December. Now I'm not even that really... just a women calling into the void...
