You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give the staffroom password just in case it attracts the wrong sort

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom and you will receive a detention

I had my first dose of the vaccine today. In Romania teachers are second down the priority list after health service, basically. So although all above boards, recommended and a good thing for our community if it means schools will reopen sooner, I feel super guilty that my grandparents both in their 90s haven't had it, and my sister in the NHS front line only got hers a week ago. For my parents, other siblings and friends in the UK, it will be months. I feel for you all having to wait.
But it's a great feeling when you get it!

MrsHamlet · 23/01/2021 22:24

All support staff are required in, as are heads of year and PE.
We're doing full online timetable except PE - and they already had a reduced timetable - so they're in looking after the KW. LSAs are all in with the kids with EHCPs and remote supporting in lessons.
But cover supervisors/ learning mentors etc are mainly hanging about...
... my colleague is the librarian and she's bored witless.

HercwasanEnemyofEducation · 23/01/2021 22:26

Wow that is a lot of staff. We've got everyone on a rota for KW and then other days staff can choose.

Your PE staff really do live the dream!

MrsHamlet · 23/01/2021 22:32

Our PE staff feel very hard done by! The dance teachers are still teaching practical gcse and A level via teams but the others are vvv upset at having to go in.
I think they should be rota-ed. It's madness

MsAwesomeDragon · 23/01/2021 22:56

I have literally no idea how things are being run in my school. Apart from my own little bit. So I know how I'm setting my lessons, and I know my hod and hoy are happy with how I'm going about things. I don't know who is in school, I don't know how it's organised, who's on the rota. I know it's less than 20 kids in each day, but that's about all I know. Nobody seems to be telling us all the overview, as if they assume we don't want/need to know. I do know that some staff PE have plenty of time to be running/cycling/walking long distances during the week, while I'm struggling to find time to get out of the house at all Monday-Friday.

Shock

noblegiraffe · 23/01/2021 23:24

It’s some Tory academy heads and private schools banding together. It’s not the NAHT or anything.

150 schools won’t cover it.

MrsHamlet · 23/01/2021 23:25

Batshit. Where the hell do they think they'll get the vaccines from???

noblegiraffe · 23/01/2021 23:27

Vaccinating teachers to open schools is such an Us4Them argument. They think it will neutralise the unions when in fact the real issue is covid.

MsAwesomeDragon · 23/01/2021 23:38

It's an insane idea. Parents and families are at risk if schools reopen, not just staff. I'd like to protect the pupils I teach from seeing their parents becoming very ill or even dying. Several pupils have parents who have been hospitalised with covid, although luckily none of them have lost a parent (there are quite a few who have lost grandparents though).

MissEspresso · 23/01/2021 23:47

It's bonkers.
At least two of my ds's friends contracted covid from school before Christmas. The dad of one is now in hospital (but improving) and the aunt of the other has died (in her 40s with underlying health condition).
At DD's primary school, so many parents also tested positive over Christmas. A mum I know lost her dad last week after they spent Christmas together.
Opening schools impacts more than just those that attend.

Thank goodness! That was a quick turnaround 😅

Monkeytennis97 · 23/01/2021 23:52

On another thread Times article about reopening being Easter at earliest.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 24/01/2021 00:23

I don't think they're going to be very happy with that when they wake up in the morning. Grin
BustopherPonsonbyJones · 24/01/2021 00:31

I know vaccinating teachers doesn’t solve the problem for the wider community but I am beginning to feel that if we are made to to go back into school with no proper safety measures and a mutant virus rampaging around, I may as well focus on me and demand the vaccine before consenting to return, leaving all those who wanted schools to open to deal with the consequences. I would move out of my house or keep to my own bedroom and bathroom to keep my family safe as they don’t deserve Covid just because of my job.

I promise I’m not Us for Them. I’m just feeling like Me for Me at the moment. Reading your stories of vaccines being handed out to people sitting safely at home (and knowing a few myself) has made me even more fed up and not very nice to know. I’m happy to work from home and not get the vaccine but if they want schools to open, they need to sort it out.

JanuaryChill · 24/01/2021 00:37

No I completely agree. Teachers definitely should be vaccinated before schools reopen but there are a lot of other safety measures that should happen as well, chief of those being waiting for lower infection rates in the community!

noblegiraffe · 24/01/2021 00:40

Occupation data release on Monday re vaccinations will be key here.

JanuaryChill · 24/01/2021 00:57

Rotas maybe a possibility on return:

BustopherPonsonbyJones · 24/01/2021 00:59

I know, January, I just feel they aren’t going to listen or do anything again and I can’t face the thought of working like that if it is thrust upon us. It’s only since I’ve stopped that I realised what it was doing to me and the vaccine would take that fear away. I’d keep fighting for noble’s list but without feeling the terror.

BustopherPonsonbyJones · 24/01/2021 01:01

Well, that’s quite positive. That’s a good point to go to bed.

noblegiraffe · 24/01/2021 01:07

They can’t do nothing anymore. The cat is out of the bag.
