You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give the staffroom password just in case it attracts the wrong sort

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom and you will receive a detention

They are saying that every KE/Vulnerable/EHCP etc. student should have their situation considered individually etc... so as to try to reduce numbers in classrooms to improve safety for everybody. That was my understanding.

Schools reopening: Call for closures as Covid cases rise www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-55511662

Blimey an accurate photo (I think).

NeurotreeWenceslas · 02/01/2021 12:25

I'd agree with that re sen in an sen school. So many have health vulnerabilities that mean they're better at home, and others have difficulties that mean they're so much better at school.

We did that very well in the summer.

Panickingpavlova · 02/01/2021 12:26

Noble, that tweet sounds tough but it's correct.

Heads should take legal advice. Where does the buck stop with safety in school.

Sansa, there should be anonymous comments boxes in a discreet place... We had one in staff room. (CLOSED now) but its the only way people can comfortably give feedback...

Nearly. There are clearly 7 out of shot, still queuing for the toilet but substantially better than the BBC’s usual attempts!

Sorry if this has been posted, but the NASUWT have taken a stance.

twitter.com/NASUWT/status/1345339751407218689?s=20

“The NASUWT remains of the view that schools, colleges and other settings should only remain open to all pupils where it is safe for them to do so.

“The NASUWT will not hesitate to take appropriate action in order to protect members whose safety is put at risk as a result of the failure of employers or the Government to ensure safe working conditions in schools and colleges.”

Saucery · 02/01/2021 12:28

And there isn’t one on either side of the teacher, standing nose to nose, shouting to get their side of the story out first.

noblegiraffe · 02/01/2021 12:30

NASUWT want special schools closed too. Not sure what the NEU said about that?

NeurotreeWenceslas · 02/01/2021 12:31

Knowledge based itt - can't see that working.

SansaSnark · 02/01/2021 12:32

*I'm on the NEU Reps call and this has just been confirmed. Members being emailed after the call with a template letter to send to Heads to say it is unsafe for us to come in but we could work remotely.

KW and Vulnerable children to come in but advising staff not to. How does that work?*

Cheers for the confirmation.

noblegiraffe · 02/01/2021 12:34

@NeurotreeWenceslas

Knowledge based itt - can't see that working.
There was a private knowledge-based PGCE being bandied about a couple of years ago, I think the Inspiration Trust were involved, the one with that Great Yarmouth sick bucket school.

I think it was abandoned due to lack of feasibility. God knows why the government has now resurrected it as a state funded thing. Someone somewhere is mates with Gav and will be making money from it.

rumncoke · 02/01/2021 12:38

Can I ask , where does this leave tas? I haven’t heard a thing from my union or school ...tier 4 primary worker . X

NeurotreeWenceslas · 02/01/2021 12:39

🙄 I literally can't roll my eyes enough.

That each student needs to be considered individually - eg some will have health needs and might need to be better off at home. Some might need to be better off in school. It needs to be individual based on the pupils needs.
JanuaryChill · 02/01/2021 12:43

DrMad yes it's brilliant isn't it (was posted on here a few days ago, lots of 😂 s )

If NAHT are prepared to protest/support their staff walking out, surely govt will have to act?

As someone said earlier, I wish NHS bods would call more clearly for school closure.

Boris has failed to protect the NHS. Many hospitals are already near /at breaking point and yet I saw a projection last night saying that admissions will double in Jan before they start to decline.

Also wish someone would clearly point out what this failure means: people dying who could medically be saved.

They are saying minimum safe number of staff in school only. That you should be working from home where you can. That if in school it should be safe (eg distanced, small classes etc..).

coming onto early years and nursery schools....

MrsHerculePoirot · 02/01/2021 12:45

NEU saying that all their advice is the same for ALL settings essentially.

UNISON have had stuff on Fb (eg have announced a reps meeting Mon iirc) although no direct communication, I agree.
NeurotreeWenceslas · 02/01/2021 12:48

(Eye rolling wasn't for you @rumncoke )

I'm really not sure I'm afraid.

Lenovo ones are good, and tough

I dropped my school Lenovo laptop down the STAIRS and it was fine. I watched it somersaulting down in slow motion like aaaagh, but all fine.

I have one too. I do Teams lessons on it fine.
oddsbodkins · 02/01/2021 12:49

Unison have a National Schools Committee emergency meeting on Monday.

JanuaryChill · 02/01/2021 12:51

Politically (in some ways) it would be easier for them to close schools in the context of announcing a proper national lockdown, wouldn't it?

Just reading articles like this makes me wonder:
