Logic behind London primary school closures

Hi all, anyone have any insights to the London primary school closures? For example Southwark primary schools are closed - but their neighbouring Lambeth and Greenwich ones are open. Greenwich was also the borough which tried to close before Christmas but the Government threatened legal action so they had to reopen. Numbers of cases are equally as awful across this area - Southwark 709, Lambeth 713 and Greenwich 756. My kids primary school is closed - which I’m obviously not happy about!! - but think I’d be equally as worried if it open when the one up the road was closed!

(Not a teacher, just a Londoner camping out here to see if anyone can make any sense of this. Lambeth has similar case rates to its neighbours, and they use the same hospitals, so I really cannot see WTF they think they are doing)

Seems it would be much better if they set a bench mark e.g. 700/10000+ = closed.

There's some interesting bits in the data thread by a poster called @MRex . It seems to be looking at the numbers and the rise in 5-9yr olds.

Whether Gav has just pushed the problem back a couple of weeks remains to be seen. Will cases drop noticeably in that time, or will the inevitable Christmas mixing (yes, in T4) muddy the waters? It will be difficult to order schools back if the data are unchanged, it's more likely that the neighbouring regions will get worse rather than the affected ones improve in such a short time scale.

No idea op. I live in a Borough where primaries are open but dd goes to school and I go to work just down the road in a Borough which is closed. Rates in both boroughs are broadly similar. Beats me why.

I've heard that the councils of the boroughs where primaries are meant to be open are currently convening. I'm expecting them to make an announcement this weekend.
Feel very sorry for all team and families involved. It will be very last minute if they decide it's not safe enough to open.
