You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give the staffroom password just in case it attracts the wrong sort

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom and you will receive a detention

Katherine Rundell is very good.

Loshad · 30/12/2020 22:33

I have emailed the BBC objecting to that photo, so bloody misleading.
I reckon at my place we will be teaching all years remotely from 4/1, we are set up for it and I suspect it will be a trustwise directive.
No idea when we will find out as the head doesn’t like to email us over the holidays

Hercwasonasnowball · 30/12/2020 22:34

Congratulations time

Congratulations, Timeturner! Wonderful news!

I’d ask for a risk assessment, tbh, even though it’s early.

Timeturnerplease · 30/12/2020 22:40

Thanks, I have read thread and my head is very good so I’m sure she’ll get a RA in place.

Main worry has been transmitting anything via me to 70yo ILs, who do childcare, but it literally only just occurred to me tonight that there might be stuff I should/shouldn’t be doing....just goes to show how as teachers we put ourselves at the bottom of the pile every time.

HarrietDVane · 30/12/2020 22:42

Congratulations @Timeturnerplease! Wonderful news - keeping everything crossed for you.

I don’t know what the guidance is for early pregnancy but your HT must surely have to do a risk assessment for you?

MrsHamlet · 30/12/2020 22:44

Congratulations timeturner

Monkeytennis97 · 30/12/2020 22:44

DfE have written on main boards via MNHQ!

WhenSheWasBad · 30/12/2020 22:45

You're pregnant time? That’s amazing. Huge huge congratulations.

Timeturnerplease · 30/12/2020 22:46

Thanks all! Last time I was pregnant (and it succeeded) the standard pregnant employee RA was basically don’t teach PE and call down to the office when you need the loo so someone can watch your class.

Might be more complicated now 😂

DecemberStar · 30/12/2020 22:48

Oo I'd like Katherine Rundell, yes!

Congrats @Timeturnerplease . I presume you didn't quite mean that you were sitting reading our musings and rankings and were suddenly overtaken by a feeling of being with child, and straightaway decided to tell us first?! 😆

It seems we weren't the only ones thinking about relations with key cabinet members earlier today...

DecemberStar · 30/12/2020 22:48

Where @Monkeytennis97 ??

starrynight19 · 30/12/2020 22:49

Congratulations Timeturner Flowers

DecemberStar · 30/12/2020 22:49

MNHQ here: Details on school closures from the Department of Education www.mumsnet.com/Talk/primary/4120869-MNHQ-here-Details-on-school-closures-from-the-Department-of-Education

ItsIgginningtolookalotlikeXmas · 30/12/2020 22:49

Timeturner I know at least one first trimester teacher who has been signed off. I think first and third are the tricky parts re Covid. I would have a chat with your GP/consultant. Fingers crossed for you, hope all goes well Thanks

Timeturnerplease · 30/12/2020 22:51

Now that would be some impressive intuition @DecemberStar...

Timeturnerplease · 30/12/2020 22:53

@ItsIgginningtolookalotlikeXmas Oh balls I didn’t know that. I though just after 28 weeks. I will almost certainly be consultant led after last time; will chase up the NHS booking in so I can get a named consultant again.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 30/12/2020 22:56

Congratulations timeturner.

Has anyone told MNHQ that info is now out of date and they are now supposed to be providing remote Ed to non exam years if resources allow.

Boxachocs · 30/12/2020 23:02

That bit from the DfE says ‘the first areas to move into the framework...’. Won’t be long before others join that list I’m sure.

MsAwesomeReindeer · 30/12/2020 23:03

Congratulations time!!! I don't know about pregnant staff, but the pregnant pupil in one of my classes isn't allowed to be in school because of the covid risk assessment. You should definitely speak to your head sooner rather than later.

ChloeDecker · 30/12/2020 23:05

Wonderful news Timeturner! Definitely put yourself and little bean first GrinFlowers

ChloeDecker · 30/12/2020 23:06

I saw this and thought of our primary colleagues Grin

I am so so sorry you have been shat on though.

PandemicPavolova · 30/12/2020 23:14

@Iamnotthe1

The other thing re testing.. The students come in on buses or train etc.

Is someone who catches it right before the test going to show positive...

Or students in the queue waiting.. Passing it on, do they then test positive if they have just caught it?

HarrietDVane · 30/12/2020 23:15

@ChloeDecker We actually ran out of paper towels last term - we had to use huge rolls of flimsy rubbishy tissue instead. We’re doomed! Grin
