Currently on ups3, secondary teacher. Have applied for a new job and they have offered on mp6? Is this a thing? Thanks

That's what I was offered in my current role. I said no and they backtracked. It depends how desperate the school is though.

StaffAssociationRepresentative · 14/12/2020 19:58

Alas @fruitypancake that is now the norm. There is the flexibility to go higher but depends upon the school/subject/other applicants.

Hercwasonaroll · 14/12/2020 19:59

Yep that's the reality of funding cuts.

Negotiate, if they really want you they'll pay.

fruitypancake · 14/12/2020 20:23

Ok, thanks all Smile

Refuse. Ask to be paid to scale.

sakura06 · 15/12/2020 21:35

Don't accept that. That's a huge pay cut. If you really, really want the job and know the school is amazing, then fair enough, but think long and hard.

parsnipinapeartree · 16/12/2020 05:30

Any reason they know that you can't stay where you are? Ie relocating? As if they know you have to leave you're in less of a good position for renegotiation

I've been made redundant ! So they know I have to leave.

Thank you, it's hard to know what to do, it is part time and possibly relatively temporary so it's tricky

Unfortunately UPS is no longer automatically transferable when you move schools. I was on UPS2 for a long time - moved schools and have had to negotiate each time. First job offered MPS4, which I refused - I couldn't get them above MPS5. It was temporary and I needed the job, so accepted. Next job offered MPS5 and I negotiated up to MPS6. Neither would go to UPS. There's no money around, so tbey have us all o er a barrel.
