A resignation one

Sorry for knocking on the door of the staffroom, please can I come in? I am support staff in a school and would really appreciate some advice.

I am in a term time only job paid over 12 months and my notice period is one month. I have a new job starting at the beginning of January and need to give one months notice.

I don't get paid for the Xmas holiday so are there any financial benefits of resigning 2 weeks before the end of term (ie 2 working weeks and 2 weeks Xmas hols notice) rather than resigning 4 weeks before the end of term and being between jobs for the 2 weeks Xmas hols?

Maybe I would get a bit more money because of holiday pay and I would also get NI contributions paid too if I leave it as late as possible? Headteacher isn't the easiest so looking at self preservation too!

Hoping someone can advise - thanks!

Stick to what you absolutely have to give them.

Sorry, forgot to add, it may not feel nice but it is not in your favour to tell them any earlier than you have to. They certainly wouldn't tell you any earlier if it was the other way around.
All the best in your new job.

Thanks I feel a bit rotten giving the shortest notice possible but they have been a bit shitty to me which is why I decided to leave.

Is it of any financial benefit to me though to wait it out? Term time contracts / paid over 12 months are hard to understand!

I'm not sure why you couldn't tell them sooner but not give your leaving date till the one you want? Your head might be crap but your colleagues will have no one in the role with that level of notice.
