You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give the staffroom password just in case it attracts the wrong sort

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom and you will receive a detention

27 Dresses is good, as are the "Murder, She Baked" series.

Saucery · 15/11/2020 16:40

@Ashard20

I have just had an idea for ours, based on the John Lewis advert. Every child will write and decorate a heart with a kindness type of message on for a person in the community e.g. care homes etc. We will take a photo of each holding their heart and put them into a powerpoint with the Celeste song in the background.Display on the website, post the hearts out to care homes. We are a church school, so although it doesn't have a Christmas theme, it goes with our PSHE and our Christian values,
That is lovely. ❤️

No piggy, I'll add it to my list. Horror is normally my genre but this years been horrific enough so it's not really working as escapism.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 15/11/2020 16:44

I love that idea Ashard.

Piggywaspushed · 15/11/2020 16:45

Have you seen Parasite? If you have Prime it is included. Not exactly horror but in that area and quite amusing and light.

Piggywaspushed · 15/11/2020 16:46

By phone? Wow. DH still trying to get his flu jab!

Piggywaspushed · 15/11/2020 16:47

Sorry, should have also added that I am glad to hear that pussycat Grin

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 15/11/2020 16:52

How has he still not managed to get it piggy? GP surgery are being a bit lax.

Luckily there’s time before flu season.

MrsDanvers123 · 15/11/2020 16:57

Think I have started on the gingerbread mulled wine too early because the Nativity plan has made me a little teary and I'm a hardened secondary teacher Blush

pussycatinboots · 15/11/2020 17:00

Piggy Thanks, the hosp phoned him 2 weeks ago to book an appt. The cardiologist took less than 10 mins. I was speechless!!
I'm sorry your DH is still struggling to get his flu jab. Have you tried a bit further afield? We were offered with GP but I booked via Lloyds - I know they've had probs with supply (they were sent over 65 by mistake)

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 15/11/2020 17:03

Xmas with the in-laws is always random food. I don't really care either way.

I don't want to do anything xmassy at school, but probably will have to. Last year staff were so ill that we just limped through that last week.

My child was Mary last year. She and Joseph almost had a fist fight over the gold package, and she dropped Jesus into the crib with a proper clonk.

Piggywaspushed · 15/11/2020 17:11

DH is going to pop to the pharmacy across the road tomorrow and see if they can help him at least track down a supply. Nothing local to us at all, Nearest Lloyds doing jabs is 60 miles away. GP is useless and consultant has not replied to an email.

Our GP has tents up in car park and, annoyingly, I have heard of non CV residents who have had drive through jabs there by appointment. Angry

pussycatinboots · 15/11/2020 17:11

Rule You must have been so very proud. Xmas Grin

Augustbreeze · 15/11/2020 17:14

Just remembering when DS, Y1, had the starring role in our nativity, including a little song 😢... he came down with a lurgy and I and school decided to dose him up with Calpol for the 9am performance, I then took him home for sleep and coddling and dosed him up again for the 5pm performance. He was fine and even the Head(master) shed a tear.

Sooo , if any school were trying to do anything like a normal nativity, the issue would be the children sent in with symptoms / awaiting test results/positive because "He can't possibly miss the nativity!"

pussycatinboots · 15/11/2020 17:18

Piggy that's bloody awful. I'd be on at the GPs every day.

noblegiraffe · 15/11/2020 17:18

Any primary school teachers doing a nativity should read Daisy and the Trouble with Christmas by Kes Gray.

I read it to my (own) kids last year and the tension just ramps up and up till the full horror of what happened at the nativity is revealed. It was brilliant.

TheHoneyBadger · 15/11/2020 17:20

I've been offered a flu jab and been sent reminders from my surgery. Presumably because I'm back on inhalers so guessing no shortage here. I've never had one and won't be having one this year.

When I was giving blood I got the text and was asking the nurses if it was weird that I didn't want one and they all said they never have it either so I can well believe the stat that came up a while back about 50% of nhs staff refusing the flu jab.

Sorry your husband can't get one piggy.

TheHoneyBadger · 15/11/2020 17:21

Pussy I'd quite happily go away every Christmas and get some sunshine but ds is mortified by the idea. I miss my winter sunshine.

WhenSheWasBad · 15/11/2020 17:27

Bit of an odd question but would “Murder She Baked” be suitable for a 10 year old who loves “Death in Paradise”?

My dd loves a good (but tame) murder mystery. Is it kid friendly not will she be traumatised?

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 15/11/2020 17:28

A few people I work with do bank shifts as HCAs never get it either. I think I was the only person in my team that did. Until they all got that B strain that wasn’t in all the vaccines a few years back.

Next door appear to be having some sort of gathering. It’s not like the covid rate here 300+ per 100k or anything Hmm

pussycatinboots · 15/11/2020 17:32

When I think so. They've been shown on Channel 5 in an afternoon.

Augustbreeze · 15/11/2020 17:33

I love the Daisy books!

WhenSheWasBad · 15/11/2020 18:03

Thanks pussycat baking and murder. Dd will love it.

pussycatinboots · 15/11/2020 18:06

When and there's a Christmas one Xmas Grin

MrsHamlet · 15/11/2020 18:08

My parents getting divorced was the best thing to happen to Christmas because it meant we no longer had to do the interminable lunch with starters and then tea and then the buffet.
The year after, we went to Florida for Christmas - and we've done one "home" and one "away" in alternate years since. 2020 was always a "home" year... whether my sister will be allowed in is currently unclear. There won't be turkey though.
