You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give the staffroom password just in case it attracts the wrong sort

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom and you will receive a detention

*Mary. No ex-PMs

Saucery · 15/11/2020 15:21

There’s bound to be someone whose DD was a shoo-in to be Mary this year and the repercussions of no nativity play will affect her throughout her whole life Hmm

Your proposed nativity sounds amazing Augustbreeze ❤️

At the very least could each class bubble do a little tableau for the nativity that can be filmed, I wonder? Although could be problems if there are children who can’t be on camera. If KS2 usually sing the songs their performance could be edited in.

DollyMixtureLulus · 15/11/2020 15:29

Our infants are filming a Makaton Nativity for P1, 2 and 3. P4-7 are reciting a Christmas poem each. I have to say that Tiktok seems to be greatly improving their performance skills Hmm

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 15/11/2020 15:31

Hope so. It’s not a proper Christmas without the AIBU casting threads.

I’d imagine a lot of schools will video it and do it that way. It’s what the church school seem to do with assemblies & masses.

Outdoor nativity sounds interesting. Don’t think we’ve got space to do anything like that. Bit of a risk if everyone decided to turn up too.

TheHoneyBadger · 15/11/2020 15:32

When I looked earlier I thought Christmas week slots were fully booked on Tesco but you've got my hopes up that maybe I misread it now!

TheHoneyBadger · 15/11/2020 15:34

Nope. Definitely fully booked.

Danglingmod · 15/11/2020 15:37

I haven't got a Christmas slot from my regular supermarket. Haven't been in a shop since January and I'm not starting now. We'll just eat whatever we have in as leftovers over Christmas week.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 15/11/2020 15:37

Surely this year is a time for giving the head of the PTA’s daughter a break from having to play Mary every year.

Saucery · 15/11/2020 15:38

True, Rafa. Either she’ll go full Violet Elizabeth about it or be secretly relieved.

DollyMixtureLulus · 15/11/2020 15:39

Ooooh, I'm going to predict a self isolating Mary AIBU thread. 870 posts. A new twist on the classic.

boccas · 15/11/2020 15:42

We've got a small (vocal) minority of parents kicking off because we have not yet booked our annual residential trip. Apparently last years children have been scarred by not going on theirs.

CountDuckulasKetchup · 15/11/2020 15:44

Latest supermarket slot I could get was the Fri before. Seriously considering moving Xmas forward to avoid visiting supermarket that week. Hate Xmas shopping normally, will be extra grim this year. Can definitely buy the kids in, not sure about the wife. Brexit cupboard is big enough to miss a week's shopping.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 15/11/2020 15:44

This year does have the potential to beat the classic from a few years ago by the parent who had removed her child from collective worship and RE.

Saucery · 15/11/2020 15:44

Yes! Shock
She’s got the outfit, all her lines learned, her emoting on the donkey left the cleaner in tears during rehearsal BUT she is identified as a close contact the day before the play!
AIBU to think they need to postpone the whole nativity until Jan 9th so she gets her chance to shine?

Augustbreeze · 15/11/2020 15:52

What, and she was cast as Mary?
pussycatinboots · 15/11/2020 15:54

If you go shopping at 6 or 7 (as soon as they open) the store is still pretty much empty. We've been to Sains, Tesco and Morrisons (not all at once) and there were no queues to get in and no queues for a till - obvs a problem if you need to take kids, but it's sooooo quiet and there are screens and sanitiser everywhere (unlike in a school)

Possums4evr · 15/11/2020 15:57

Supermarket shopping is like a picnic compared to going to work, it's fine.
Though you could start adding more chocolate and drink (or whatever your fancy is) to every shop between now and then.

DreamingofBrie · 15/11/2020 16:04

I'm anticipating a small Christmas this year - either the 5 of us, or 7 including my dm and df. It really hurts not having seen them in person since before the school year started, but I'm not sure I want to risk making them unwell if they come over for Christmas (they aren't too far away). Will have to see what the situation looks like in December.

I've got a chicken and a gammon in the freezer, which is what I was planning for Christmas Day. Might get another chicken just in case. Will order veg from the local greengrocer, who delivers to me anyway.

In the past I've used Cook, who were brilliant for not having to brave the supermarkets. It was the year of the awful snow, and when they stopped delivering to Scotland (where we were going to be for Christmas), they delivered the turkey joint to us in the NW, and we drove it up to the ILs for Christmas Grin. Despite the lack of heating (frozen pipes), we had fun!

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 15/11/2020 16:07

No, she wasn’t cast at all, August, which was the problem.

Early morning shopping is the way forward. And it’s got to be much lower risk than being in a classroom.

Augustbreeze · 15/11/2020 16:12

Oh I see so school had assumed she shouldn't be in the nativity but parents thought otherwise? Aha.

TheHoneyBadger · 15/11/2020 16:16

I have never cooked Christmas dinner in my life Blush

I have done a big chilli and buffet type thing and fed and entertained on Christmas Eve before everyone headed off to midnight mass but Christmas dinner is my sister's thing and to her credit she loves hosting and is great at it. I'm the feckless youngest child who used to be off travelling all the time I'm now grounded but definitely not at the cooking Christmas dinner echelons of adulting.

Ds being an only he always wants to spend it with his cousins and everyone around.

There would be my parents at my sisters with the cousins etc and us two on our own 3 miles away.

Piggywaspushed · 15/11/2020 16:34

!

Ashard20 · 15/11/2020 16:36

I have just had an idea for ours, based on the John Lewis advert. Every child will write and decorate a heart with a kindness type of message on for a person in the community e.g. care homes etc. We will take a photo of each holding their heart and put them into a powerpoint with the Celeste song in the background.Display on the website, post the hearts out to care homes. We are a church school, so although it doesn't have a Christmas theme, it goes with our PSHE and our Christian values,

Piggywaspushed · 15/11/2020 16:37

Have you watched Mrs America? That was great fun count.

pussycatinboots · 15/11/2020 16:39

Honey One year we painted the bathroom on Christmas morning, so had fish fingers Xmas Grin and another year we had a curry.
Piggy DH had his cardiology appt by phone - they're happy with him for the mo and will try to see him in clinic in 12 months.🤞🏻
