You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give ‘The Every twat for Themselves mob’ the staffroom password as a number of them are operating in an alternative reality.

No DfE muppets allowed

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

If you are fed up with cakes and biscuits there is now a cheeseboard on offer

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom and you will receive a detention

Just checked my area - my village and surrounds is now 400/100,000 and the (v close) city 600/100,000 and people STILL insist on calling it a low rate area!!!!

ChloeDecker · 04/11/2020 16:41

Our sixth formers are also the worst for not wearing masks in corridors etc. BelleSaisage
It’s so frustrating.

Piggywaspushed · 04/11/2020 16:42

Question : outbreaks in sports teams? Who does contact tracing?

FrippEnos · 04/11/2020 16:42

@Piggywaspushed

Well, my head said yesterday he 'never wants to see children in masks'.
That makes me think that he spends very little time around the pupils.
Piggywaspushed · 04/11/2020 16:45

Yup!

Saucery · 04/11/2020 16:57

@Piggywaspushed

The organisers, in the one I know of (because friend very annoyed it is having to stop and keeps telling me about it). They take every detail and do their own contact tracing. Relies on parents to tell them about a case, of course, just like schools.
Piggywaspushed · 04/11/2020 17:13

This is not what the manager thinks...

He has just let the lad's dad tell everyone to go and get a test...

NAS-GOVERNMENT NEEDS TO ISSUE MORE ROBUST MEASURES TO PROTECT ALL TEACHING STAFF

Responding to guidance issued by the Department of Health and Social Care and Public Health England on shielding people who are clinically extremely vulnerable, NASUWT General Secretary Dr Patrick Roach said:

“The Government have issued important guidance less than eight hours before national lockdown measures come into force, putting schools into a very difficult position.

“The NASUWT has been calling for guidance and other measures to keep staff and pupils safe during what is an unprecedented time for schools.

“Ministers now need to go further and issue more robust measures to protect all staff, including clinically vulnerable, pregnant, disabled and BAME teachers.

“There is widespread evidence of rising Covid-19 transmissions within schools and colleges which need to be tackled as part of a credible national plan from the Government to ensure the safety of staff and pupils.

“If Ministers are to secure the trust of parents and staff throughout the autumn and winter, they must come forward urgently in the coming days with a robust and comprehensive plan to ensure that all schools and colleges are safe whilst they remain open to all children and young people.”

Danglingmod · 04/11/2020 17:37

Oh, and the guidance also says ECV staff should stay at home. 4pm on the day before lockdown. Not much notice to get cover in, is it?

ThrawnCow · 04/11/2020 17:42

What medical conditions are considered to make you ECV?

Piggywaspushed · 04/11/2020 17:44

It's altered. GPs should have updated people.

God, my DH is barely considered vulnerable these days with his replacement heart valve and leaking other heart valve...

Danglingmod · 04/11/2020 17:48

I cross posted with Riga...

It's not an extensive list. Includes severe COPD, in treatment for cancer, blood cancer patients even if not in treatment, patients taking some medications which lower immunity.

The list of conditions for "just" vulnerable is much longer and includes diabetes, severe Asthma, pregnancy, etc

Appuskidu · 04/11/2020 17:53

Is severe asthma not CEV any more?

Danglingmod · 04/11/2020 17:58

I don't think it ever was? But I'm not sure. I have a family member whose asthma was bad enough for the "vulnerable" list.

Hercwasonaroll · 04/11/2020 18:04

Just catching up, so sorry monkey. This pandemic is really exposing the politicos without the ability to think beyond their own experience.

We've had mandatory masks in corridors a while now due to local lockdown. Kids mostly comply. Fair bit of no nose mask wearing which is annoying. You do get used to it and I now wear my mask most of the day. I have to admit it's not the tightest because I haven't yet found one that works with my tiny nose, big glasses and fat cheeks face!

Danglingmod · 04/11/2020 18:07

Apologies, it does still include severe asthma.

They've also added adults with Down Syndrome to the CEV list.

I hope you are okay, Monkey, and get some clarification soon (and your dh is okay, too).

DollyMixtureLulus · 04/11/2020 18:07

In today's itchiest news, our infants have a mass worms outbreak Envy

So much for the handwashing.

Yeeks.

So sorry monkey Flowers

Piggywaspushed · 04/11/2020 18:11

DS's manager being really aggressive with me > FUCK. OFF. You twatty mctwatface.

Who's tested positive? One of the team?

Piggywaspushed · 04/11/2020 18:23

Yup

Piggywaspushed · 04/11/2020 18:24

It's interesting, though. 4 family members tested. Mum - careworker so weekly test on Sat =positive . Dad gets symptoms. Positive test on Monday. Both sons tested as precaution by testers. One positive, one negative.

Only 1 of those people felt at all unwell!!

Augustbreeze · 04/11/2020 18:37

I'm hearing about a lot of whole families for nearly all testing positive suddenly. I suppose it makes sense if it's prevalent and spreads quite well in households and we're testing lots (including asymptomatic relatives, obvs!)

There is the line in the new guidance about "we expect schools to implement these measures by Monday" so am sure that's long enough to get cover sorted.... agencies must be rubbing their hands together (sanitised of course)!

Hancock said something on Commons today about getting care home relatives tested I think? Not great news for my brother re Down's going on the CEV list, he's got enough challenges as it is atm.
That's a sizeable proportion of severe LD students taken out of schools as well, isn't it?

Interested to see how schools will interpret the bit in the guidance that says only allow wraparound care if essential for parents to work. Don't think that probably covers our lovely Y10 and 11 boys who come to the library most days after school and then walk home!

@ChloeDecker

Same. I think some of them seem to think as the uniform rules don't apply to them, mask wearing doesn't either!
Piggywaspushed · 04/11/2020 18:43

Our sixth formers don't wear them on the bus.
