New contract less money

I have just been offered a job on mps 6 after being on ups 3 for a quite a few years! It is only a maternity cover so this is fine, but I wondered if anyone else had done this before? How easy was it to get back to your old salary? Did it affect you negatively in any way?
Also the contract is due to finish on 23rd July so wouldn't be paid over summer! Is this allowed under teachers pay and conditions or should I negotiate for pay until the end of August?

I can't help you with the first point because I've been in my current post for ages.

I'm afraid that it's more or less standard practice now for teachers to return from mat leave on the last day of term, or the first day of the holidays. It really sucks if you've done the teaching all year & don't get paid over the holidays. I suggest you approach the school from the angle of 'You're getting a UPS3 teacher, for MPS3, so how about paying me for three weeks' summer holiday?' Or could you ask to be paid at supply rates? That's the annual salary divided by 195 teaching days, so includes an element of holiday pay.

Sorry, MPS 6!

Thanks for replying. I think this is really unfair, and I am not sure I will accept the job now tbh. Has anyone had any success in negotiating this before?

I was on ups 2 for ages, changed jobs and had to negotiate my salary for my present maternity leave post. I was cheekily offered M4, we settled on M5. The post is up in a few weeks and I'm busy applying for new temporary jobs - I intend to go for M6.

Me. I was UPS and then had a few years out childrearing. On returning I ended up having to accept M6 which I have now been on for years! There is no point my applying for threshold as a) there is no money and b) they will literally want blood from me in return. I will maybe go for it once i've found a nicer school to go to.

The fixed term ends when the person returning from M/L comes back. The school
Is unlikely to be able to afford to pay for both of you over the summer.

It's tough on you, but perfectly legal I'm afraid.
