Is anyone else done with this half term?

I am utterly, bone drenchingly exhaustedSad

My team are also utterly exhausted Sad

3 staff have cried on me this week (my saving grace is I was able to solve all 3 problems). I hate not being in our faculty base because it's so much harder to support staff. Just being able to have a chat and a mutual moan is missing so things end up building up until the person explodes (not their fault at all).

The kids are tired and my Y11s have been extra trying this week (they are a tough group anyway).

Thank god we finish on Friday for half term!!

Yup. I ache from head to toe. Spent all last weekend asleep. Presume it must be from the underlying stress of the pandemic because this is beyond usual teacher tired.

SleepymummyZzz · 14/10/2020 17:57

Just realised...We have another week and a half to go and next week I am at school until eight every evening for open events. FML 😬

Leodot · 14/10/2020 21:27

I am so ready for half term 😂. I teach EYFS and a lot of the kids today were exhausted. We put the tv on quietly and let them have a rest and a snuggle on the carpet if they wanted. About half came for a nap and the other half were fine doing activities. I swear I’ve seen my unit so quiet and we have 60 kids.

They’re only 4 so a lot of them had never done a full day or a full week in education until this half term. They’ve all done so well but they hit the wall today 😖. Two more days!

PumpkinPie2016 · 14/10/2020 21:56

@SleepymummyZzz it's definitely worse than normal teacher tired! It must be a pandemic side effect.

I am now anxiously waiting to see what happens with Greater Manchester tiers tomorrow as if they move to tier 3 we technically can't go on our half term break away so will have the faff of rebooking along with the disappointment of not going.

Shouldn't have been an 8 weeker. Behaviour is in pieces... mostly mine.

myfatiguehastiredness · 15/10/2020 19:01

Yup. Never had to deal with so many parent issues. I now get so many emails a day, it's ridiculous.

MrsZola · 17/10/2020 13:46

Our EYFS class are shattered, stroppy and tearful. SLT bangs on about well being etc, then demands data, why aren't they further into phase 2 phonics etc.😡 I feel like joining the children in their strops - we are keeping it as low key as we can, they're little and overwhelmed.😔

Leodot · 17/10/2020 14:57

@MrsZola That’s awful 😞. You poor thing. Some SLT just don’t have a clue what it’s like in EYFS, especially this year!! It’s totally understandable that they’re not as far as normal because they've missed so much of nursery so don’t have the listening and attention skills they need to access phonics properly and they’ve missed so much of phase 1 that a lot of them can’t do oral blending and segmenting or identify initial sounds?! 🤦🏻‍♀️ I honestly despair at some SLT’s. Luckily I am SLT, early reading and phonics lead and my head is incredible and trusts what her staff say so we haven’t run into this problem. I’m just stressing about the poor year 2s having to take the phonics test in a few weeks! 😖

My class were quite tearful and some were very stroppy this week! Fingers crossed your class and mine will return rested and happy!! ❤️

One week to go. I’m so tired, behaviour has been dreadful this term and it seems to get worse each day.

jennybluetree · 17/10/2020 20:39

Yes so over it. The SLT also announced virtual learning walks for this week too. Joy. Being judged on our teaching online, for which we have had 1 training session and only a few weeks experience. Hmm

jennybluetree · 17/10/2020 20:40

Not to mention that I only have a third of my groups in the actual lessons in the morning as they have either got Covid or are isolating!

PumpkinPie2016 · 17/10/2020 21:31

Some SLT are just ridiculous Hmm

I must admit I thank my lucky stars every day that our SLT are actually normal people.

Finished yesterday for half term and I am so relieved! I went running this morning for the first time in 2 weeks (I usually aim for 3 runs a week) and felt great after. I've really missed it but have been genuinely too busy/exhausted the last two weeks Sad

Tomorrow will be a chilled out day with DS. Still don't know if we will be going away on Friday but either way we will enjoy half term.

Good luck this week for all those still working Flowers

1/2 term starts on Friday here
I work in a secondary school- management level but feeling like I have been given about 50% extra to do this term.
I have simply never been this tired in my life. I feel hollowed out.

CraftyGin · 20/10/2020 17:58

We started half-term this week. I have been running on fumes for several week. I have never known a half-term like it.

Blended learning really takes its toll.

PumpkinPie2016 · 24/10/2020 07:44

Well, by the skin of our teeth we made it on holiday so that's good.

I honestly feel like it's taken me the full first week to recover from the half term! I feel for those who only have a week offHaloween Sad

Hoping to relax this week ready for the onslaught of next half term! It's definitely been more tiring than normal and the run up to Christmas isn't likely to be any easier.

Can I amble in as a non teacher with a variety of support roles. I can't fully do my usual work so I'm doing more of the more physical parts of my job including putting tables out and away and cleaning. One week and two days of half term and my shoulder joints and other aches and pains have just settled down just in time for me to go back on Monday.

Behaviour had only really started to settle in the last two weeks before half term. It will be interesting to see how things are when we get back.

PumpkinPie2016 · 30/10/2020 21:34

Of course you can @MorvaanReed - sounds like your role is quite physically demanding at the moment but I am glad the aches and pains have settled.

We had a nice week away but I have had an awful cold the last few days Haloween Sad nothing covid just full on streaming! Feeling quite a bit betted today and home now. Got to get organised for Monday over the weekend - goodness knows what it will be like for the next 7 weeks but onwards and upwards!
