You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give ‘The Every twat for Themselves mob’ the staffroom password as a number of them are operating in an alternative reality.

No DfE muppets allowed

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the toffee vodka is hidden.

If you are fed up with cakes and biscuits there is now a cheeseboard on offer

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom, especially if you have not used the hand gel. Close the door quietly on your way out and put your mask on

Special schools not considered AGAIN! Our pupils can’t access online learning, paper worksheet packs. Mine certainly couldn’t handle me live streaming everything from class.

tadjennyp · 02/10/2020 06:49

I have received my Covid19 app exposure notification. It says it last checked on September 24th at 16.29! That's not helpful!

Piggywaspushed · 02/10/2020 06:52

We don't really get gained time at my place but it really gets in the way of our rollover timetable, which I a sure will be ploughed on with regardless.

Piggywaspushed · 02/10/2020 06:53

Honestly, what on earth does 3 weeks achieve?!

Piggywaspushed · 02/10/2020 07:00

I'd love to see clav unpick this one :

ineedaholidaynow · 02/10/2020 07:17

Am I reading it right that you can only order them if more than 15 pupils are self isolating but only if they have been in contact with a confirmed case outside the school community. So not if a bubble bursts.

They wouldn’t be trying to encourage schools to say that cases were transmitted from outside of the school community, would they?!
parrotonmyshoulder · 02/10/2020 07:59

Still waiting for ours from before the summer...

CarrieBlue · 02/10/2020 08:00

And laptops allocated by how many devices they reckon the school has already - we have maybe 6 for a school of 200.

ineedaholidaynow · 02/10/2020 08:11

Do the schools have to give them back once the self isolation period is over, otherwise you will want to be in the first tranche of blending learning etc otherwise the very limited supply will have run out

Piggywaspushed · 02/10/2020 08:56

Question : on the exposure notifications on the Covid App it says verify that's you with my email address and place to put a code... what the hell is that?? I don't remember setting up a code!!

Piggywaspushed · 02/10/2020 08:58

I also can't figure out how to just access this info from the app and now the notification has gone away!!

Thanks neuro and pleb
Yeah ive got myself in a real mess now.
Basically i think they verbally reduced my meds after pregnancy 5years ago and that what i was taking. But not on what prints out. So i was collecting more but using less. 75/50 down to 50/25 i think. Anyway all fine till march when i wanted some due to covid and i couldnt get it due to needing a blood test. Which i didnt want to go for so after arguing i gave up very annoyed and never got that one.
In apr i got ill felt hyper heart racing and SOB insomnia (all after chills and dry cough). So as well as not having enough i then stopped taking in case i was in fact hyper. So didnt take any for a few months. Lost a lot of hair got muscle twinges and numb hands. Which are thyroid issues so started taking again. And was taking for a month at least before blood test. Which ive just checked was 1.66. So i think all good.
Anyway they think im not taking it (understandable but i was before the test) as i wouldnt have had enough. So they want to take me off.
Ive asked to speak to gp but not really easy to explain. And i know im wrong. But think i still need to be taking it. Basically i think i was ill with whatever and maybe or not got thyroiditis (which covid can cause) but am back on track.

I've been puzzling about that piggy! Absolutely no idea, sorry.

Keep that's quite appalling treatment but I understand why you tonight you were hyper. It's possible it's fluctuating a bit but I've had those symptoms with underactive too. I think sometimes cortisol and adrenaline try to compensate; I was once fairly hypo but had I idea as I had insomnia and palpitations and was loosing weight, very stressed.

You could afford to tweak it slightly and might feel a little better. Eg if you're 50/75 alternate days, you could do 4 75s a week and three 50s. Nearer or just below 1 usually makes most people feel best, a few have to be on quite a lot and even lower as Phleb says.

I'd possibly ask for a test in a few months though as that dose is relatively low and you may find you need more in time.

Also, if hair is still sparse take some extra zinc, which also helps with conversion anyway. (As does iron, vit d folate and b12 and a little selenium. Iron and zinc can become depleted when you're hypo and hair doesn't grow back well until zinc is good.)

Surveillance report

As an Sen teacher I do feel that we are particularly at risk as shown by the data. There aren't anywhere near as many sen schools.

NeurotrashWarrior · 02/10/2020 13:09

Sorry, primary and Sen.

Brain twist, though the green was Sen! has my flu jab and now not with it!

noblegiraffe · 02/10/2020 13:11

When did schools open again? Cases in 10-19 year olds has rocketed.

That's the graph that wasn't shown in the briefing.

WhyNotMe40 · 02/10/2020 13:52

I find this interesting - it's based on ONS samples, so not availability of tests - primary school and below aged children infection rates is declining! I wonder why?
Not surprised that secondary aged and tertiary aged are continuing to rise.

noblegiraffe · 02/10/2020 15:11

People can’t keep blaming universities for the rise, can they?

Keepdistance · 02/10/2020 15:41

I think unis just demonstrate have much the kids are spreading it. Because it is easier to tie an outbreak together via a household /hall of residence.
And they will have more symptoms.

Previous ons had same rates by every age pretty much i think.

phlebasconsidered · 02/10/2020 15:44

Keep have you ever had an antibody test? I have Hashimotos and during flare ups can be hyper then plummet below. This happens especially if I am ill with something else too.

2 year 6 classes in neighbouring schools have cases now as well as 2 in our local secondary.

WhenSheWasBad · 02/10/2020 16:02

I think our secondary school is the only one in the local area which doesn’t have any Covid cases. It’s only a matter of time before it’s in school.

Keepdistance · 02/10/2020 16:03

I dont think i have. But probably do have antibodies as my dsis also has hypothyroidism.
So yes if they say i dont need meds i guess i'll ask for that.
I really doubt i would have been able to have a blood test in march or for months due to covid. The gps werent seeing anyone.
Its hard to know if the hyper symptoms were covid/stress/thyroidistis etc. One thing i know though is i wasnt over taking it.
I find i get insomnia more with hypo strangly. I know it sounds dodgy but a lot of it was concern over catching covid. And i stand by saying it would not have been a good idea to have blood taken early -mid march. But at that point everyone else was in denial and i was made to feel hypochondriac/crazy.
I do wonder how many others have ended up not getting medication etc.

Keepdistance · 02/10/2020 16:17

www.bristolpost.co.uk/news/bristol-news/three-more-bristol-schools-confirm-4570329
3 more cases in bristol all primary.
Reception/year4 and cant remember.

Is it maybe because people are taking under 11 places and they dont need masks. So in shops and PT. As it's unclear if parents also have it. Obviously they can be getting it at school but still someone has to start with it.
The fact parents don t think young kids get it probably doesnt help. I dont understand how in switzerland etc young kids can hug granny but ours are getting positive tests.

Theres also a case at local private school.

SquashedFlyBiscuits · 02/10/2020 16:17

No more tables in rows at my school. Apparently not needed any more. I can't decide how I feel about that. Are rows nonsense anyway in a primary or not?
