You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give ‘The Every twat for Themselves mob’ the staffroom password as a number of them are operating in an alternative reality.

No DfE muppets allowed

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the toffee vodka is hidden.

If you are fed up with cakes and biscuits there is now a cheeseboard on offer

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom, especially if you have not used the hand gel. Close the door quietly on your way out and put your mask on

I’d guess 2/3 of the students I teach are 17+. All the fuss about universities and it’s like colleges are invisible.

Augustbreeze · 30/09/2020 18:13

I was shouting st the car radio "But there are 17 and 18 year olds in schools!!!"

HerdyGerdy · 30/09/2020 18:14

That feels like a manipulation of data from their perspective. But then again apparently we’re still clear of this as a school so 🤷🏻‍♀️

I got frustrated at a student today. Work set. Planned, prepped, scaffolded. So much help. We’ve spent a week on this. Didn’t what was actually asked. My fault apparently as they had no help. Didn’t look at anything provided.

I’ve developed a sore chest and sporadic cough. Not Covid symptoms so no need to isolate unless I get worse according to doctor.

HipTightOnions · 30/09/2020 18:21

I’ve just posted this on another thread and the more I think about the more suspicious I become.

The BBC are reporting that Whitty said the rate of transmission among children is not changing very much. That’s the R rate, isn’t it? So numbers of infections could actually be growing very quickly if the rate is >1.

Also, the graph broken down by age group was for the test positivity percentage which is presumably the number of tests carried out which give a positive result. This is pretty meaningless without the figures for the number of tests by age group - if loads more children are being tested the positivity rate may well be low.

The only graph that tells us about the number of infections in children are the estimates of infections per 100,000 of the population, and these do seem to be showing increases, albeit from a lower base.

Very good point

Ahhh, that makes more sense.

I think you should post that on all, ‘yay, Boris says schools aren’t hotbeds of infection like teachers have been warning for months!’.

Tired. Still no positives in our school. Year 8's getting worse. They are a nightmare but I also feel bad for them because they've been stuck in the shittest block in school which has the smallest crappiest classrooms and is always messy and noisy even outside of covid.

Poor trainee in today - she was in one of my lessons and was meant to be in another later but managed to go to the wrong lesson instead. She is very, very quiet and apparently very nervous. Allegedly meant to be teaching one of my groups within a few weeks but we'll see.

MN still not working on chrome on my phone - has anyone had this? I get bad command messages and nothing loads. Wondering how to tackle it.

Kashtan · 30/09/2020 18:54

Looks like we have our second case in school, different year group. Kids all whinging it’s freezing. I am telling them to wear a t shirt under their shirt, and get a school jumper, other staff are apparently ignoring the instructions and closing the doors and windows 😳

Is there anyway to see the slides from the briefing?

The red tops jump on it. Ugh!

eitak22 · 30/09/2020 19:30

Hope you're ok Salty. Look after yourself tonight.

No idea about cases in our school but no staff as of yet but I'm exhausted with the added mental load. Not to mention my back has gone so that's an added fun to the week (especially challenging with a very active child I support).

noblegiraffe · 30/09/2020 19:35

I agreed HipTightOnions, that's a very carefully selected set of graphs, isn't it? The one that we want to see (actual cases broken down by age) isn't there.

noblegiraffe · 30/09/2020 19:38

Hope you and your car are ok, salty I hate having to deal with insurers.

starrynight19 · 30/09/2020 19:53

Hope your ok Salty Flowers
That’s very true about the report on cases in children and makes much more sense. I just couldn’t work out how they could say cases weren’t rising in children. It’s a constant in / out at my dc schools of kids isolating.
