You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give ‘The Every twat for Themselves mob’ the staffroom password as a number of them are operating in an alternative reality.

No DfE muppets allowed

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the toffee vodka is hidden.

If you are fed up with cakes and biscuits there is now a cheeseboard on offer

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom, especially if you have not used the hand gel. Close the door quietly on your way out and put your mask on

Frir, wondering if I am sleep posting as that was my exact lesson yesterday. I swear they were just using a random number generator Hmm Either that or they all suddenly forgot how to interpret the English language.
@WhyNotMe40 thank you! Your reply prompted me to seek union advice and you're right. Self-isolation should not be recorded as sickness absence or trigger any action. I've replied with this info, asked for my record to be corrected and for the meeting to be cancelled. I wasn't even polite about it.
Fabulous!

NeurotrashWarrior · 30/09/2020 07:06

@ohthegoats

I mean, I know it's not funny, but this made me laugh a bit in surprise earlier.

Some are already done and over, but there are 3 around me currently not on that map.

From the start all Ive seen is a badly sequinned fish.

And from the start only 10% of schools I knew of went on it. But I knew of them via word of mouth so no evidence. I'm not using it now.

NeurotrashWarrior · 30/09/2020 07:07

I think we are having a meeting next week for all staff with children who are at risk of bubbles closing etc. Which is a lot! Hoping for some clarification.

This is what will close schools as we said sooooo many times on threads in the summer!

Augustbreeze · 30/09/2020 07:50

@NeurotrashWarrior you mean staff who are parent, whose children might have to isolate?

A drs' association (can't remember which) wrote to the govt yesterday saying what about NHS staff with families, re testing priority.

marplemead · 30/09/2020 07:59

Argh, my school are telling me I still need to attend a meeting to discuss my absence. Can they do this? They've tried to make out it will be supportive, but I know it won't be. I have refused, and said I will be seeking more advice from my union. Will I get in trouble for doing this? I'm so angry right now Angry

Piggywaspushed · 30/09/2020 08:15

I am getting so frustrated by the gung ho attitude of staff in my school. Loads of visitors everyday . Loads of meetings and catch ups being held by teams in very small offices. people having lunch all together in small offices. I think because we have officially only had one staff case so far no one thinks it's real.

But the cover sheet has 12 staff members off sick today...

MrsHamlet · 30/09/2020 09:16

I think they can, @marplemead but I would be on to my union now...

marplemead · 30/09/2020 09:22

Thanks @MrsHamlet I'm waiting to hear back from my union

HerdyGerdy · 30/09/2020 09:32

I am getting so frustrated by the gung ho attitude of staff in my school.

It is really concerning. We have quite a few students and staff out but slt aren’t admitting if there are cases. This means that people aren’t wearing masks as they’ve been asked or following guidelines. These are supposed to be smart people 🙄

TheHoneyBadger · 30/09/2020 09:35

That sounds rubbish marple. When they ask how you could improve your attendance what are you meant to say other than ignore government guidance and risk infecting the school community? Very bad luck to have to get tested twice.

I've been absent because mumsnet will not work on my iphone on chrome and I didn't realise it was that rather than the whole site down.

I'm off to work in a minute. Managed to go for a swim, get some planning done and cook and eat a healthy dinner yesterday on my day off. Impressed myself. Think the rest of the week will be spent ploughing through qmas and loading marks onto the system.

Keepdistance · 30/09/2020 10:02

My reception starter had 2w off and now says her friend is playing with other kids. So sad. If we keep having to isolate she will end up not having made any friends.

Augustbreeze · 30/09/2020 11:00

@Keepdistance . Hopefully the dynamic will shift again shortly, especially if one of the new friends has to isolate!

Piggywaspushed · 30/09/2020 11:24

people aren’t wearing masks as they’ve been asked

The major issue in my place is lack of leadership so there is no clarity : ie no one says, no meetings, no more than two people in an office, no work desks facing each other etc. It's all individual or group decision making, which makes it hard for those who feel better being stringent, or who need to be . You are made to feel like you are making a fuss.

Saucery · 30/09/2020 11:56

We had someone deliver something yesterday, that also needed to be installed in a small area. No masks, the sort of equipment that means they will visit many schools and offices in the course of a day. I wouldn’t have let them through the door tbh, unless they had masks and gloves on, just as I wouldn’t if someone came to my house to install or fix something (not that I’ve even had to ask as tradesmen have turned up with all precautionary PPE at home ).
They said “can we just nip in and look at the socket set up?” and I said no, they had to wait until I had finished in the room and left (I was only 30 seconds) They looked a bit pissed off 🤷‍♀️

monkeytennis97 · 30/09/2020 12:05

@Piggywaspushed yup, totally get what you are saying.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 30/09/2020 16:23

You might a get a short break today. Looks like it might be NHS bashing time for a bit.

I’m sure MN can manage both sets of bashing but we might be able to deflect the heat from you for a bit.

Gin for anyone who needs it today.

Frlrlrubert · 30/09/2020 17:00

We have our first positive case. A year 13. They've sent home close contacts but not closed the bubble. To be fair the 6th form is so small it would have been easier on the teachers to close the bubble rather than teach 1/2 in lessons and 1/2 remote.

minisoksmakehardwork · 30/09/2020 17:03

We've got our first positive today too @Frlrlrubert. I don't know whether it's staff or pupil though, just got the same letter that was sent out to parents.

I assume if I needed to know I would be told but at present the school is acting on PHE advice so who knows what will actually happen.

Appuskidu · 30/09/2020 17:17

Did they just say on the Bojo briefing that cases in schools weren’t going up??

Piggywaspushed · 30/09/2020 17:20

Yes. They then showed a graphic with a huge rise in 17 -18 year olds and repeatedly said there was no rise in school age children.

monkeytennis97 · 30/09/2020 17:22

It was Whitty that said it. Feel so let down.
Piggywaspushed · 30/09/2020 17:29

17-18 year olds don't count, it seems.

Mistressiggi · 30/09/2020 17:30

Schools near to me now have cases

Danglingmod · 30/09/2020 17:48

Forty schools have had whole year groups or entire school sent home in my authority. We are supposedly in a low-medium area Hmm
