I'm working part time as support staff in my DCs' school. Love it. I'm a qualified and experienced teacher though. There's a maternity cover teaching post coming up at my school and I've been offered it. I can go back to my current job afterwards as I'm permanent.
Pros:
Really lovely class in my favourite year group.
DH works at home and will pick up DCs from school. We have a childminder who is happy to fill in if needed on occasion (we've used her before). Breakfast club is booked for both.
5 min drive from home.
Having ownership of a class again is appealing.
The year team and TA for the class are fab.
Workload is pretty manageable compared to other schools I've worked in. Sensible marking policy etc.
DCs are happy with the idea--slight moaning at breakfast club every day but I think they will be fine. Junior age
We only have one after school activity so no rushing around in the evenings.
Cons-
Obviously more workload than now. More responsibility. Meetings - staff meeting which I currently do plus one year group meeting. Less time with own DCs.
Ideas for shortcuts welcome. So far I have practised batch sandwich-making for the week ahead and freezing. We batch cook meals and have shopping delivered. Get things ready night before etc.
