You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give ‘The Every twat for Themselves mob’ the staffroom password as a number of them are operating in an alternative reality.

No DfE muppets allowed

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the toffee vodka is hidden.

If you are fed up with cakes and biscuits there is now a cheeseboard on offer

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom, especially if you have not used the hand gel. Close the door quietly on your way out and put your mask on.

I took a little while for DH to give a shit about my concerns, but if he dared complain about the risk I present to him I'd hit top C. As it is, o can't bear to read articles about people bleating about either returning to the office or having to WfH. I feel unhealthily resentful.

Excuse typos Wine

Sureitwillbegrand · 12/09/2020 22:44

@RigaBalsam

Anyone else fancy being broadcasted from home to your class. It's all when an good if you have no kids or elderly parents at home.
One of DD's teachers is isolating and they did the lesson via a video call (secondary). Needless to say DD said it took 20 mins to connect and signal was not great.....
Sureitwillbegrand · 12/09/2020 22:46

@ohthegoats - That's the same trial DH has been selected for.

RigaBalsam · 12/09/2020 22:53

@Sureitwillbegrand

I can imagine.

ohthegoats · 12/09/2020 23:22

Hey I thought of another bad thing for teachers.

My physio said that I'm lucky she's still seeing teachers - she might not be if things go bad in schools. Also, my dentist has said that I can't go for a check up if I've had any cold symptoms in the previous 3 weeks. I wouldn't have cold symptoms if I hadn't been surrounded by snotty kids at school.

Keepdistance · 12/09/2020 23:25

I dont think that chart is quite right salty.
The covid cough is meant to be dry but isnt always and all coughs to be tested.
And it rather suggests if you have sore throat or runny nose it's not covid.
So yes you are likely to end up with kids with wet coughs in.

Mistressiggi · 12/09/2020 23:25

How can a physio differentiate based on occupation? The person who wfh might be having house parties every night and be a bigger risk than us. My physio has never met me in person, just had phone appointments.

ohthegoats · 12/09/2020 23:32

Private physio. She's just off on holiday for a week with a friend (not her family), so I might not want to go and see her when she's back either!

SaltyAndFresh · 12/09/2020 23:40

@sureitwillbegrand, problem is its being shared far and wide and parents will use it to send their children in coughing.

Keepdistance · 13/09/2020 00:45

Dc has a temp of 39 deg now.

These threads are great aren’t they? Such solidarity.

Definitely helping me get through this.

noblegiraffe · 13/09/2020 00:47

Sorry keep hope you can get a test quickly.

Keepdistance · 13/09/2020 01:31

No tests. Her temp is 39 so pretty high and unusual

SaltyAndFresh · 13/09/2020 04:19

Hope you are getting some sleep now @Keepdistance. I remember when DD was hospitalised with a high temp, one thing they did was simply to keep the windows open.

NeurotrashWarrior · 13/09/2020 06:24

I'm sorry to read this Keep, how is she now?

The symptoms lists are bothering me; this was the Zoe research:

And Christ that victim blaming article!

I've said it till I'm blue in the face; how do we know how adults who are around children are catching it if they're mostly asymptomatic?

I swear that's one reason why more women are testing positive.

And now ds has a cough.

^If it makes you feel better a patient wandered round the hospital and took pictures of all the staff not social distancing before handing them to the execs, *
Tbh, whilst that is underhand , I do think that needs to be done sometimes. However, in many schools' cases, it is the 'execs' who are creating these meetings and putting staff together. I have had had so many meetings, and seen so many staff walking about together, huddling over photocopiers, and being up close to students. Plus , you have TAs who are just told to suck it up and wear a visor, really. We also have staff sharing small offices.

On Friday we had school photos with kids in great big snaking queues everywhere. The head sent an email reminding staff to distance 'because some staff are vulnerable ' no, I note to stop the spread!

Head has now said students will be 'encouraged' to wear masks in corridors. Who is doing this encouraging??

I had to laugh at a poster on another thread (one of those who says they are vaguely in the know) who thought secondary students could trace their own contacts and that this was a perfectly easy job! People have no idea how many different connections one child has in one school day!!

NeurotrashWarrior · 13/09/2020 07:42

Actually, no more coughing. And he's running all over the house. Not coughing, and supposed to have mild asthma.

So I think it's still a cold. Very snotty.

It's hard when we've had a stern email from our own HT regarding exactly what symptoms to look for but I and concerned for how his teachers would react if he does cough!

SaltyAndFresh · 13/09/2020 08:03

We had an email from the Principal saying no classroom meetings except large departments Hmm followed by another email from the VP listing rooms for year group meetings next week.

GravityFalls · 13/09/2020 08:11

My HoD wanted us all to have lunch together just to catch up! We were going to go outside but previously there was an unfortunate incident involving a seagull, so that put everyone off. In the end we went into the (big) Art office downstairs but everyone laughed at my colleague and me wearing our masks when we came in, and that we practically flattened ourselves against the wall to be 2m away from everyone else.

Piggywaspushed · 13/09/2020 08:13

There was a get together at my school on Friday . It was outside but there was catering and a 'pub' and all sorts. It seems some people's priority is to 'boost staff wellbeing' through fun activities. The whole point of this event is to meet and chat to new staff.

I didn't go.

Piggywaspushed · 13/09/2020 08:13
