You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give ‘The Every twat for Themselves mob’ the staffroom password as a number of them are operating in an alternative reality.

No DfE muppets allowed

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the toffee vodka is hidden.

If you are fed up with cakes and biscuits there is now a cheeseboard on offer

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom, especially if you have not used the hand gel. Close the door quietly on your way out and put your mask on.

And now DH has lost his phone somehow. I need to reset.

Also, just found this :

www.msn.com/en-gb/news/world/covid-young-children-can-spread-coronavirus-to-adults-new-cdc-report-says/ar-BB18XYVm?ocid=spartanntp_edu

Augustbreeze · 12/09/2020 19:04

I have realised my friend knows the person who founded the Boycott Return to Unsafe Schools Facebook group. He's not the gentlest individual, from what I gather.

Thanks piggy, that research is pretty clear then - eg an asymptomatic or mildly symptomatic 8 month old can pass on enough virus to hospitalise a parent....

NeurotrashWarrior · 12/09/2020 19:18

Just came to post that piggy.

And as discussed on the numbers thread; young children are cuddled or even slept with. Are often asymptomatic too.

NeurotrashWarrior · 12/09/2020 19:19

I really do think that's why more women than men have been testing positive.

Piggywaspushed · 12/09/2020 19:20

I got told off for not providing evidence on there! I am not posting letters from my DS's school on FB!

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 12/09/2020 19:30

Can they only deal with proven facts on there, then?

Piggywaspushed · 12/09/2020 19:35

Apparently every report of a case in a school needs 'evidence'.

eitak22 · 12/09/2020 19:38

Had a lovely calm day after the last week, I've needed it. Having read through MN finding it amusing to see people being surprised about how isolating is meant to work and children getting I'll when back at school.

Also heard that a pub where I used to love has had an issue with a customer coming in when they had a positive covid test-people really dont care do they!

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 12/09/2020 19:50

Lol Piggy. Even the science forums I’m on don’t require evidence of that. You can have a bit of discussion & analysis as well without having to start a whole new thread too.

Sureitwillbegrand · 12/09/2020 19:52

Belated birthday wishes @Piggywaspushed. Bad luck comes in threes so think your ok now.

So now I have a sore, itchy dry throat which you get from talking too much! I'm clearing my throat which is then making me cough I reported it on the Zoe app and they have asked me to got for a test. Just tried booking and nothing in the area (of concern??) will try again later. Annoyingly my DH has just been selected for the COVID study - he has WFH sine March and now only leaves house 3/4 times a week.

Also thanks for the lunch suggestion @ohthegoats worked a treat this week and so easy to make.

noblegiraffe · 12/09/2020 20:17

DH said we needed some sealant for the bathroom so I suggested he pop to B&Q. He looked reluctant and said, and I quote “It feels a bit dangerous to be going right now”.

The look I gave him. He has been working from home since March and will be for the foreseeable future.

Keepdistance · 12/09/2020 20:21

Dc1 now has runny nose too. The cough will probably start in a few days even if it's just a cold.

Yes i saw that saying children spread haven't read yet. I think uk gov knew otherwise england would have excluded children as w and S have done.

Surely the priority should be keeping bubbles small. No point worrying about interventions if the kids are all off waiting for tests or SI 14d.

Daisy169 · 12/09/2020 20:40

noble That's one good thing about being back at work for me, it's put going about my usual life into perspective. I took one of my DC to a few shops today, I wouldn't have dared to do that a few weeks ago. But now I'm hugely at risk in school I'll be damned if I'm not letting my DC choose a birthday gift for their cousin.

WhyNotMe40 · 12/09/2020 20:57

Can I just have a little rant?
Meeting up with BIL and SIL before we can't. I explain why I am stressed. BIL says it's "infecting the kids with neurosis". And its not going away, what are teachers doing to deal with it? You can't carry on being this worried over nothing".
You just can't explain to some people!

noblegiraffe · 12/09/2020 21:03

Our own Prime Minister ended up on a ventilator....worrying over nothing?!

noblegiraffe · 12/09/2020 21:05

Or rather, on oxygen in intensive care. Either way not something to be brushed off.

Piggywaspushed · 12/09/2020 21:30

Seen this? A 'ridiculous' number of Glasgow teachers have virus. It's our fault and no one feels sorry for us. Rewrite this article in your head with 'nurses' in it.

www.heraldscotland.com/news/18716555.coronavirus-extraordinary-number-glasgow-teachers-test-positive-past-week/

Danglingmod · 12/09/2020 21:43

That article is a) offensive and b) scary. 11,000 Scottish students foretells 110,000 English students within another week or so, surely?

ohthegoats · 12/09/2020 21:44

Oh yeah, my partner is very reluctant to go out too. WFH exclusively since March, and is now WFH permanently - we're going to buy a proper office pod thing for the garden. He says that me and child are his risk factors, he'd prefer not to add any more to the mix.

I took the child to buy new shoes today, it was a total mare. She's licking stuff and running into people. She can stay out of all shops from now on too.

I've been selected for the Imperial College/NHS random testing thing, so I've said yes to it. Some time between 17th and 30th September apparently. At least if I've got it at that point, Track and Trace do everything for me.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 12/09/2020 21:46

If it makes you feel better a patient wandered round the hospital and took pictures of all the staff not social distancing before handing them to the execs, Piggy.

It really helps if you don't have your department isn't embroidered onto the front of your scrubs tbh.

SaltyAndFresh · 12/09/2020 21:55

This is bothering me. I think we're being set up to accept pupils with coughs will not be tested and will be in school.

The Twenty-first Republic - All back but for how long? Why is Big Gav still in post?
Mistressiggi · 12/09/2020 21:56

I'd just come on to moan about that article Grin
I read the comments - some trash as you'd expect but a good few sensible and supportive ones. Also pointing out transmission may have occurred from Child to teacher and child to next teacher!
Believe me when I'm closer than 2m to my colleagues it's not through choice.

RigaBalsam · 12/09/2020 22:01

Anyone else fancy being broadcasted from home to your class. It's all when an good if you have no kids or elderly parents at home.

GravityFalls · 12/09/2020 22:21

My DP who works from home had a little pity fest about how worrying it was for him that me and the DC were coming home from college/school and bringing all our germs home to him. A Hard Stare might have been administered...
