You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give ‘The Every twat for Themselves mob’ the staffroom password as a number of them are operating in an alternative reality.

No DfE muppets allowed

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the toffee vodka is hidden.

If you are fed up with cakes and biscuits there is now a cheeseboard on offer

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom, especially if you have not used the hand gel. Close the door quietly on your way out and put your mask on.

I wish the tummy symptom thing would become official.

This is an interesting study on saliva tests and asymptomatic cases in schools.

Coronavirus: Saliva test study will track school cases www.bbc.co.uk/news/education-54116927

Myusername2015 · 11/09/2020 15:26

3 cases in my year this week. Kids sent home and person they sat next to; no one else including staff. I taught all three of these kids in a room barely big enough to fit 15 let alone 30 and no open windows. This is an absolute joke Shock

Keepdistance · 11/09/2020 15:42

Completely agree. Hope you are ok.
My dc closest friend wasnt in today... They are in a hotspot with 10 cases...

Keepdistance · 11/09/2020 15:54

Hes 9 so i may be about to find out how well 9 year olds spread it.
Our school have decided on year group bubbles from monday. Fml!

TheHoneyBadger · 11/09/2020 16:01

That’s awful. I dread knowing it’s in a bubble but not being allowed to isolate. To me that’s putting us at risk and negligent. There’s no other scenario in which people who’ve shared a room for an hour with a known case carry on as normal is there?

I’m done for the day and possibly the whole weekend. Managed to get a it ahead of myself with planning on days off and can fit marking in next week. It’s not proper marking just checking in who’s working or struggling etc and needs keeping an eye on and an encouraging comment.

I’m knackered. Doing a Friday dance on the inside though. Wondering whether to catch up with news or if my mental health would be better off ignoring it.

I think news that you have no power to respond to (eg we aren’t allowed to stay home regardless of cases etc unless we are told to) just creates stress

NeurotrashWarrior · 11/09/2020 16:01

Sad it is just an experiment isn't it?

I wonder if different PHE areas are operating differently? They're being very sharp and sending whole classes or year groups home here. But parts of the NE are on watch lists now.

motherrunner · 11/09/2020 16:12

So the two neighbouring areas to me (& where my family live) are now in local
Lockdown.

More school closures of bubbles in my area. One high school has had a positive case but hasn’t isolated anyone! 40 parents took their children out. All this is in the local need but except the lockdowns there is no national coverage.

My school is still not mandating mask wearing and no one is distancing. Feels like it’s just a matter of time.

Piggywaspushed · 11/09/2020 16:23

DS says the boy in his school with a case does a BTec and A Level Law but that those whole classes haven't been isolated, just those who sit near him.

Piggywaspushed · 11/09/2020 16:25

Hes 9 so i may be about to find out how well 9 year olds spread it.

Don't be silly, of course they don't. If they do this will have happened outside of a school. The setting of school and the return of schools and the rise of cases in children are all irrelevant factors.

NeurotrashWarrior · 11/09/2020 16:35

Ds1 has completely lost his appetite; very unusual.

NeurotrashWarrior · 11/09/2020 16:47

And the child he's been sitting next to all week was sick today...

FrippEnos · 11/09/2020 16:47

We have had two kids and two teachers tested this week. and possibly a child sent in that was waiting for results.

Hard to exactly say as its all on the rumour grapevine

Saucery · 11/09/2020 16:54

We had 3 vomit in the first couple of days. I’ve never known norovirus to swoop in as soon as term starts, never mind all the cleaning and handwashing going on that should put the brakes on it.

I hope your DS is ok soon, Neurotrash

I have been chosen for the Covid test study run by NHS/Imperial. Thought I might as well do my bit. Tests will be handy, too!

NeurotrashWarrior · 11/09/2020 17:24

Yes Saucery, we've had a couple vomit as well as a couple off with D and that's unusual at this stage. And yes, with the huge amount of cleaning and hand washing going on too.

He'll be fine thank you; I'm just hyper aware of him complaining of headache, a slightly sore tummy and no appetite. The rivers of snot however makes me think it's just a normal cold.

That is truly dreadful. If it's ok for teachers to be made to work under these conditions, every fucker should get back to work. I mean, some people are still being paid to stay home.
SaltyAndFresh · 11/09/2020 17:30

@MrsHamlet and @Piggy, have you seen the latest will-they-won't-they U-turn for AQA?

Piggywaspushed · 11/09/2020 17:36

The poetry thing?Yes. Twerps.

MrsHamlet · 11/09/2020 17:39

Yep. Just after my examiners email confirming the previous arrangements. I'm still not sure where the idea that we would definitely be able to drop poetry came from because Ofqual did say boards could specify additional core content.
We'd started text 4 this week, and I carried on today because I'm a pain in the arse who does my own thing. We'd decided to say nothing to the kids this week but some colleagues will have done. It's a bloody mess.

motherrunner · 11/09/2020 17:40

What’s the U-turn? We do OCR and have been worried that they might follow AQA’s announcement yesterday.

MrsHamlet · 11/09/2020 17:40

Friday night email: must complete mandatory fire training online ASAP. It's compulsory. FFS.

MrsHamlet · 11/09/2020 17:41

They said core was Shakespeare and poetry. Choose one other. Now they're looking again. It'll surely have to be best of 4.

Piggywaspushed · 11/09/2020 17:43

Forgot to mention it's my birthday (and DH's!).I have a sore throat,PMT, an extra lesson on my timetable as of Monday , no Spanish teacher for DS and covid in his school. Life is indeed good.
