You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give ‘The Every twat for Themselves mob’ the staffroom password as a number of them are operating in an alternative reality.

No DfE muppets allowed

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the toffee vodka is hidden.

If you are fed up with cakes and biscuits there is now a cheeseboard on offer

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom, especially if you have not used the hand gel. Close the door quietly on your way out and put your mask on.

Haha autocorrect fail... shows how many times I have said PPE recently. I meant 'open' not PPE there!

NeurotrashWarrior · 11/09/2020 07:27

As I've given him calpol, I'll have to tell school so thought I'd ring instead of going in and double check what they want me to do. He's happily playing on a game. So not especially ill.

They'll love me.

TheHoneyBadger · 11/09/2020 07:58

Not sure about PD but P is sporting activity and D is dual registered?? Someone who goes to football academy or such?

Different kids across different year groups and sometimes 2 in a class. No one has ever seen the code before and I even asked an assistant head.

Will ask student services today.

hedgehogger1 · 11/09/2020 08:02

@WhyNotMe40 we can't do any practicals as all the support staff (inc lab techs) are on corridor duty. Ready to call for back up if a teacher or student is taken ill and enforcing the one way system and masks in corridors

Piggywaspushed · 11/09/2020 08:23

Today we have photos for two year groups, all queuing up in a canteen area all morning , entirely blocking a one way system...

Augustbreeze · 11/09/2020 08:36

A MN poster has received a letter instructing her to start shielding again, for 12 weeks, not in a lockdown area:

Shielding again? www.mumsnet.com/Talk/coronavirus/4019768-shielding-again

Also I hadn't realised it never stopped in Leicester - sounds sensible though.

This ties in with Boris's somewhat garbled words at the press conference about children with vulnerable parents, doesn't it?

Augustbreeze · 11/09/2020 08:59

@Piggywaspushed just remind us, what kind of school is yours? (😆... otherwise we'll be 😭)

NeurotrashWarrior · 11/09/2020 10:03

I wonder if shielding might be run by PHE now? So if they know there's increased cases and how hospitals are?

Ds's teacher was reasonably non plussed and said he'd keep an eye on him. And I noticed what a very hansome bloke he is too. reminds me of a young McCann brother.

ClockSpanner · 11/09/2020 10:04

The Leicester thing is so conflicting. So at my school in the city, people who are shielding that live in Leicester are not attending because they are still shielded. This is good of course. However people who were shielding that live in Leicestershire county are still required to attend school to work in the lockdown area as their shielding is over. I think thats really wrong.

NeurotrashWarrior · 11/09/2020 10:05

Oh yes that's really wrong.

marplemead · 11/09/2020 10:39

Is anyone else still waiting for results of covid test? I sent off my home test on Tues afternoon and still no result. It means I've been off work all week. School have been generally supportive, but keep asking me whether I've had my result yet and whether I can get to a test site. I keep having to explain I don't drive and there are no test sites in my city (which is a different city to wear I work). Well done Boris.

I like my school, but will be looking at jobs nearer to home with a Jan start now.

ohthegoats · 11/09/2020 10:48

I think there will be loads of jobs going this autumn.

Two primary bubbles closed in our city.

If I get sent home with my class, there's no point in getting a test at that point is there? I need to wait a week?

Just trying to work out how I can be useful either at work, or at home for things like the school run. Being in for 2 weeks when the rest of my family can allegedly be out and about is a bit nuts.

Is that even the rules? Totally confused by it all.

Augustbreeze · 11/09/2020 10:59

If you're sent home with your class (and I'd like to know when they do and don't include staff in the bubble!) then you have to quarantine completely for two weeks I think, goats?

Augustbreeze · 11/09/2020 11:03

Now it seems the the person sent a "new" shielding letter from her GP may have just had a copy of an old one - but I'm not entirely clear as he's sent it to give her evidence in order to (potentially?) keep her child off school which surely means current anyway?? What do you think @NeurotrashWarrior? - not something to post on BRTUS maybe!

NeurotrashWarrior · 11/09/2020 11:07

Oh I think it's only if you have symptoms. I think the two weeks is so asymptomatic people are then possibly clear? I suppose you could cadge a year at around 7 days if no symptoms but I think that's the issue with lack of tests. Having said that, as a key worker, I think it could be a good idea...? 🤷🏻‍♀️

What's the priority test procedure for key workers?

NE is on various amber warning or more. My chest is tight as I think I'm getting the cold my family have (it's asthma but obviously I cough a lot with that.)

Gonna need it on speed dial me thinks.

NeurotrashWarrior · 11/09/2020 11:13

I think the op has NC? It sounds like the Gp is giving evidence to the parent to support homeschooling but not de registering? But forgot the cover letter.

I'm not posting on that group. I'm also finding it a bit much to read for some reason, just in it for anecdata and info, which are hard to find actually, though they collect news reports on separate threads.

@Augustbreeze are you in SSUK too? There's a couple of teachers / others now in the group who I recognise / and am friends with on fb from SSUK...!

NeurotrashWarrior · 11/09/2020 11:14

cadge a test at around 7 days

That should say!

Piggywaspushed · 11/09/2020 11:23

Apparently, we are not allowed to discuss school closures unless we have hard data and can prove onward transmission in schools. Otherwise not a useful fact.

Some people will understand the point of this post. And my feelings about that. There is a reason why the data isn't there!!

Funny how onward transmission at a teen party is seen as a given...

NeurotrashWarrior · 11/09/2020 11:25

Lol piggy!

Yes I understand; when is the weekly report out that shows setting infection rates?!

That's hard fact!

NeurotrashWarrior · 11/09/2020 11:26

Local school had several cases at the end of last week, so probably from outside, but another case this week.

RobertsUncle · 11/09/2020 11:45

@Piggywaspushed
Apparently, we are not allowed to discuss school closures unless we have hard data and can prove onward transmission in schools. Otherwise not a useful fact.

Ridiculous.
As someone mentioned earlier, my rows of tables magically walk forwards, so children who start out with one child either defend (2per m) soon end up with another 50cm in front and another 50cm behind them - so 4 other chn within a m2. So of course it spreads.

We should invent a new measurement metric - children per m2.

Yesterday I found out what a child looks like when they've not stepped outside for almost 6 months. A pale green-grey.

Keepdistance · 11/09/2020 13:03

Someone in coronavirus topic says updated guidance.
Where was the side by side?

Our class whstsapp has kicked off.

phlebasconsidered · 11/09/2020 13:08

Two kids with headaches and tummy cramps this morning. Office sent them back to me as "They're not the 3 main symptoms". Ffs. 2 more traveller kids off in lower keystage. Looks like the whole site will go, i'd imagine. That, combined with 4 sneezers and one kid practically asleep with tiredness means that I am not filled with hope. Watched one year 6 sneeze right across the table. Head insisting we can swap into sets within 3 classes. No. Spraying tables and chairs does nothing when you have actual real CHILDREN snotting and coughing everywhere and sitting cheek by jowl.

Then dd texted to say 3 kids sent home for testing from her year 8 bubble just this morning. I am off now to have my 2 pathetic hours ppa at home (and that was a battle!) I have 96 books to mark. Which is apparently fine. I am going to have the hottests, soapiest shower in the world afterwards. And then open my Aldi flavoured gin.

As lovely as it has been to see the kids this week the stress has been awful. And the pressure already to accelerate progress is insane.

My high point has been a child telling me they've loved coming back to school as much as their cat loves licking it's bum.

MrsHamlet · 11/09/2020 13:17

Cats really do like licking their bums - so that's a compliment, at least 🤣

WhyNotMe40 · 11/09/2020 13:22

I've just looked at the Covid dashboard map for my school's area. 5 cases. It's only a matter of time before it finds its way into the classroom surely?
Phleb, if I were you I would seriously be considering a section 44.
