62 in a classroom?

I'm not a teacher but wanted some advice. My DS is starting reception and has a stay and play this week - 30 kids and 30 parents in a small classroom, but only for thirty minutes. It feels very risky. Is it typical for a teacher, parents and kids to be put in this position? It seems unnecessary to do it in one sitting. Why would a teacher put themselves in this position or is it likely to have been mandated by the head? I at least have a choice albeit one that deprives my son, but teacher obviously doesn't. Why not do a back to back session - is it because they would have to clean in between? It just makes no sense to me. Parents evenings etc will all be done online. Please make me see sense!

That seems bizarre. Parents aren't allowed in our school at all

Should have said parents are t allowed in school for us either apart from this stay and play session.

Are you sure everyone is having the same 30 minute slot?

It's likely the teacher doesn't feel they can say no, even if they feel uncomfortable.

To be honest, I think this goes against the DfE guidance (although that is changing all the time).

I'd raise your concerns with the head, as it really is unsafe for the adults in the room. It won't be possible to socially distance in that environment.

Are you sure you all have the same slot? We are doing our Stay and Plays next week but it’s only 6 children at a time. They are staying in the outdoor provision and it’s one parent per child with the parent wearing a mask.

Parents only received info about their own time slot so could assume they are all going in together? In reality it will take us almost a week to get through the sessions.

Ours last min went to masks for adults due to the weather.

I still didnt go inside though dc did.
It feels really weird seeing all the kids touching the toys. And thinking they cant possibky clean all this and reception kids touch their faces a lot.

We have held Stay and Plays in our school for our new starters this week, maximum of six at a time, staggered over the whole day.
I dont think they will have a full class in together. I think you will have a time slot.

I can't believe any school would think they could put 30 parents in a classroom together.

After all the laborious methods in place to make sure parents don't come within 2m of each other at drop off, that would just seem crazy.

No, this is not ok and goes against the guidance. Our reception parents haven’t come into the school groundS at all. The children all came in quite happily On their own. Lots of staff present in case of any wobbles.
