You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give ‘The Every twat for Themselves mob’ the staffroom password as a number of them are operating in an alternative reality.

No DfE muppets allowed

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the toffee vodka is hidden.

If you are fed up with cakes and biscuits there is now a cheeseboard on offer

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom. Close the door quietly on your way out

@motherrunner

We’ve had meeting reduced to compensate for the extra duties.

I’ve spoken to my HoD about my fear of flooding and she said to leave the class. Is there such a thing as a ‘menopause policy’? Will have to trawl the annexes!

I think the menopause policy is probably hope the toilet isn't far away and that you have a friendly TA. If you are secondary you are probably screwed.
MrsHamlet · 02/09/2020 16:03

What's a pink box question?
No assemblies here either.

TheHoneyBadger · 02/09/2020 16:26

I have walked literally miles today delivery boxes of books to different zones. I mean literally-I have a Fitbit and apparently I had an hour of cardio which I can well believe up and down flights of stairs lugging stuff.

I’m at home tomorrow and will finally get to do some lesson planning though to be fair their planning and resources are really thorough.

Biggest worry remains that the year 8 block will be lord of the flies and I teach over half of the buggers.

What is lovely is that the head, who was dropped in it by the old head walking out mid term just before covid, is currently universally worshipped for how she’s held it together. No pedestal can last forever but it’s nice for once for staff to be confident in their head.

If I focused on how seriously (not very) covid is being taken I would panic but I’m just going to have to do my best to keep myself safe and roll with it.

phlebasconsidered · 02/09/2020 16:36

We have no class TA in our primary Bett. It's policy. I don't know many primaries who do anymore, just 1-1 if you are lucky. I've not had a TA in 5 years.

Talking to my colleague, I think one of us will have to stand in the corridor and monitor both classes while we pee or period. Not ideal!

WHY NO SOCIAL DISTANCING

Honestly, I tried to tell them!

Ickabog · 02/09/2020 16:59

@noblegiraffe

At least she admits she had it wrong, and that the images in the media were deceptive lies.

We can try telling them, but many just won't listen until they actually experience the reality

Piggywaspushed · 02/09/2020 16:59

Oh, for the love of God.

Piggywaspushed · 02/09/2020 17:01

The thing is it is already being minimised on the thread.

Piggywaspushed · 02/09/2020 17:03

Menopause policies definitely exist . Pretty sure the unions have one they recommend to schools.

My friend said they are pretty useless.

Saucery · 02/09/2020 17:09

I feel a bit angsty about DS going back today. He’s enjoyed it, said it felt as safe as possible but definitely no SD. It’s a bit like I’ve “let Covid in”, if that makes sense? As if the last 6 months never happened and it was all a bad dream.
I didn’t for one second think DS’s school would look like the ones on the news, excellent though their handling of this has been.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 02/09/2020 17:09

I believe you are now quite justifiably allowed to use the phrase ‘I told you so’ noble.

It would take a great deal of restraint not to tbh.

Medra · 02/09/2020 17:16

@Hercwasonaroll

No class lists here yet. No kids til Monday but still.

No actual logistical arrangements either. Just GDPR, safeguarding and being read out emails that have previously been sent.

That’s what our training day yesterday was like.

Saw the thread ran to 1000 posts but never opened it....😭

Piggywaspushed · 02/09/2020 17:26

I just told DS not to accidentally hug anyone tomorrow. he looked at me as if I was mad.

CallmeAngelina · 02/09/2020 17:28

A fucking idiot on there, seemingly excited and encouraging of her dd being able to hug her friends when back at school! Angry

How I wish there could be instant exclusion for anyone caught doing that.

noblegiraffe · 02/09/2020 17:29

My Y11 boys last year were always all over each other.

I’ve looked at the resources for form time tomorrow and there doesn’t seem to be anything telling them about any Covid restrictions. Maybe it will be in the remote controlled assembly.

Some of those posters are real ‘alright hun’ types.

INSET over and teacher starts tomorrow. Temperature checks will be done in the morning!

Year 7 were in today and some staff are already wearing masks.

ohthegoats · 02/09/2020 18:19

'alright hun' types... I wonder if they are the same 'type' for you as they are for me?

Kids in today, all a bit chaotic, I went to break at the wrong time and got no time to eat lunch, then ast least 5 parents turned up at normal time (half an hour late), so I got to do some free childcare (woop). Takes 12 minutes for the class to wash their hands - no dispenser, so a TA stood there with soap in a cup and spooned it into their hands in the line.

I'm sure it'll sort itself out and get slicker... but really, definitely no sign of social distancing.

Coronavirus: Covid transmission within schools detected in Glasgow

Absolutely no surprises.

tadjennyp · 02/09/2020 18:36

I went into work today to clear out my predecessor's cupboards, which included a pair of shoes 🤮. We are promised a timetable tomorrow. We also have an hour and a half of training on 'knowing your kids'. teaching us to suck eggs

TheHoneyBadger · 02/09/2020 18:44

I hate to say I told you so BUT!!!

It’ll be interesting to see the turn around of teachers being calmer because it’s our everyday and our sanity can’t cope with not getting calmer and parents freaking the fuck out realising how exposed their kids are. Maybe.

I’m off to swim shortly and try and clear my head of the whole shitshow for the night before teaching begins.

Oh and I got a mention on streamed talk from head due to my whole school email asking for ideas for covid friendly brain breaks. I missed it because I was too focused on trying to comprehend all the different lesson and break timings but everyone in the room was like ooh you got a mention for good practice lol.

The new normal is pretty surreal

Augustbreeze · 02/09/2020 18:46

Wow @noblegiraffe that thread.... scales are definitely falling from eyes! And nice that some have apologised to you, although not (presumably) the perpetrators.

Can I just vent a little here as am trying not to do it in person? You know those teachers who somehow make it to SLT and no one understands why and they continue showing everyone why they shouldn't be SLT and why they definitely shouldn't be managing anything or anyone?

Just sayin' .....

What? Gatherings of people from 1000+ households increase disease transmission?!?

Who’d a thunk it

I can definitely see this happening. We're all somewhat resigned to how things will be, and how pointless many of measures are. However, I suspect many parents / carers will soon realise the realities of what school in Covid times actually looks like. No doubt we'll all get the blame, as teachers were so excite about going back, surely if they knew it would be like XYZ they should have said...

Piggywaspushed · 02/09/2020 18:49

Ha! That Glasgow article. Schadenfreude of a grim kind.

I like the way it says 'we aren't going to name the schools'

10 lines later : here are the names of two schools.

Interestingly, that's the second private school I have read of in Glasgow - lots of public transport use.
