You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give ‘The Every twat for Themselves mob’ the staffroom password as a number of them are operating in an alternative reality.

No DfE muppets allowed

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the toffee vodka is hidden.

If you are fed up with cakes and biscuits there is now a cheeseboard on offer

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom. Close the door quietly on your way out

I did pop into school (classroom physically prepared already) and try to do a seating plan and get my head round all the info in my Inclusion file. ShockShock
Then I came home, had lunch (and beers!) in the garden with dh, mowed the lawns, did some housework, went for a lovely long dog walk by the river, and then had lots of wine in the hot tub with dh.

Back to new normality tomorrow. INSET. Sad

ohthegoats · 01/09/2020 18:56

how long are other commutes?

20 minutes in the morning, 35 - 40 minutes to get home due to rush hour traffic. Have never done much longer than that since I started teaching. In old career I did much further, sometimes an hour and a half.

NeurotrashWarrior · 01/09/2020 18:58

Brain mashed.

Everyone clearly a bit spaced out at school but it was nice to see them.

Tens of thousands of Scottish pupils absent from school www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-53983392

The bit about "it's common to get viral infections after a prolonged absence" doesn't fill me with confidence...

Enoughnowstop · 01/09/2020 19:00

@Piggywaspushed. Smile

A Downing Street source said: “Shit. We didn’t think anyone knew about Scotland.”

NeurotrashWarrior · 01/09/2020 19:00

I really hope there's lots of whistle blowing in schools where bugger all has happened.

Soooo many people came into my room
Today to get art junk stuff where it's stored.

It's going to be an issue and I'm going to have to be a dragon.

Ickabog · 01/09/2020 19:01

how long are other commutes?

I live far too close to my school.

hedgehogger1 · 01/09/2020 19:03

Fucks sake. Today gave everyone a headache and we all left with more questions than we started with, but it's ok coz we have a bloke coming in tomorrow to teach us all the new ofsted shit

Frlrlrubert · 01/09/2020 19:03

My commute is about 30 mins on a good day, 40 usually, and eternal if there are roadworks or an accident on the M5.

CallmeAngelina · 01/09/2020 19:03

My commute with no traffic is 12 minutes. Was lovely during Covid! Could get home from school by 3.35!!
Now? Probably nearer normal, so 15 mins in the morning (although they've just started major roadworks on my route Angry) and 20+ home.

SaltyAndFresh · 01/09/2020 19:04

Yeah I wouldn't want to work in the town where I love (and DD has made her views on this very clear - there's only one secondary). I have worked within 30 mins before but in one the HT was a demon and in the other the kids were off the wall. I quite like an audiobook in the car.

NeurotrashWarrior · 01/09/2020 19:04

Omg he's brave...

Jeeze!

Have to say our head had a meeting with staff to check how we were and check how all our teams were coping. They're taking well-being seriously.

Piggywaspushed · 01/09/2020 19:07

That Scottish story is scary : Swinney and the journalist are basically encouraging poorly kids to go to school. Nonononononononono!

minisoksmakehardwork · 01/09/2020 19:08

20 min drive on average to my school. Fortunately I can avoid going through town if I want to otherwise it doubles the journey just because of traffic.

I feel sorry for one of the teachers at dc's primary school. when we first moved here, the kids would shriek and wave at her walking past our house every morning. We had to stop opening the curtains so early to give the poor woman a break.

Appuskidu · 01/09/2020 19:08

Ofsted?! That would really have put me in a bad mood!

I live about 5/10 minute drive from school-far enough to not bump into any pupils but too far to walk!

Piggywaspushed · 01/09/2020 19:08

Bit just remember folks : kids are not superspreaders.

Kidneybingo · 01/09/2020 19:09

I commute about 40 mins usually. I don't mind. It's a bit of peace away from kids at home and school.

Piggywaspushed · 01/09/2020 19:11

As someone points out in the comments the ones that don't spew anti Scottish bile those kids can't possibly be washing their hands properly then....

Thank you for putting a smile (albeit a wry one!) on my face today Piggy!
Really needed after the crazy INSET I’ve had today.

noblegiraffe · 01/09/2020 19:26

No one seems to have a clue how teaching is actually going to work.

Maybe that will be covered tomorrow.

ohthegoats · 01/09/2020 19:30

I asked the question about what to do if we feel ill, was told to get a test. I feel slightly ill nearly all the time, so asked about the three specific symptoms, but we have to go and get a test with any of of the long list symptoms. Already 2 members of staff off today getting tests. It's going to be a long term.

It's the opposite here. Sticking rigidly to the 3 main ones.

I'm not sure which is worse!

Loved both of those videos!

I’m a 5 minute walk from work and my son goes there so I bump into students in my own bloody living room Grin I don’t mind it.

One parents evening a girls parents and I recognised each other from dog walking years before and we spent 5 minutes talking about whether they ever managed to improve their crazy labradoodles recall before remembering what we were there for.

I see kids everywhere but I think that can have it’s benefits. Teens seem to respond to realising you’re an actual person, mother, dog owner whatever.
