You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give ‘The Every twat for Themselves mob’ the staffroom password as a number of them are operating in an alternative reality.

No DfE muppets allowed

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the toffee vodka is hidden.

If you are fed up with cakes and biscuits there is now a cheeseboard on offer

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom. Close the door quietly on your way out

@Piggywaspushed

The whole announcement yesterday puts middle schools in yet another pickle.
I'm not surprised. The Gov don't seem to realise that infant and middle schools exist.

Setting cover is week 6,I think, of the NQT induction this year. So no getting sick til after that please

WhyNotMe40 · 26/08/2020 09:42

In my department we always check NQT cover (and one particular long standing colleague...)
Don't worry

WhyNotMe40 · 26/08/2020 09:42

Did anyone else wake up going "oh shit oh shit" today, or just me?

noblegiraffe · 26/08/2020 09:43

Saving that for next week, Why. No point in peaking early.

WhyNotMe40 · 26/08/2020 09:44

Good point Grin

WhyNotMe40 · 26/08/2020 09:46

I'm going to try to be less on here today. I was a shit parent yesterday letting the kids lounge around with TV and screen time all day (weather was crap though). Going to take them out to a park for a picnic and scootering today.

MrsHamlet · 26/08/2020 09:48

It rained all day here yesterday. It'll be glorious next week!

Lol 😂

Too true. Let’s get through inset days first

OP posts:
MrsHamlet · 26/08/2020 09:52

I don't want to do inset. Someone wrote me a note?

MrsHamlet · 26/08/2020 09:52

Write. FFS.

GuyFawkesDay · 26/08/2020 09:55

I've spent the last 2 weeks making booklets for ks4 ready for cover/partial lockdown/so I don't have to lug 30 exercise books round school.

This year is going to be awful. With my problems at school (long story involving HoD as well as this ridiculous timetable thing) I'm going in tomorrow and Friday and am going to try and get stuff ironed out. If not, I'll be leaving my notice on the heads desk at half term.

DreamingofBrie · 26/08/2020 09:56

I love getting Art cover - shut up and draw this.

@Frlrlrubert, I had a drama cover once. I couldn't cope with them getting up and walking/dancing/moving freely all around the room. Very different from my maths lessons!

StaffAssociationRepresentative · 26/08/2020 10:01

At least the European named poster has been kicked out (again) MN for goady teacher bashing posts in Aibu. I can now go about the rest of my day ...

What week do they teach you how to deal with panic attacks Grin?

PE cover would be my personal nightmare. I loath sports and don’t know the rules for anything. Drama would be 2nd worse. Maths would be bad, as a science teacher I should be good at it but there’s loads I’ve completely forgotten.

At least if I cover history, people will fully expect me to be shit at it.

borntobequiet · 26/08/2020 10:16

I once had a DT cover with "that" Y9 group where the instructions started "Hand out needle files".
We did something from the textbook instead.

ohthegoats · 26/08/2020 10:20

we need to send the message out that our schools are safe with the measures that they've been taking and will be taking

Translation: we need to be able to lie more easily. Arseholes.

CallmeAngelina · 26/08/2020 10:25

I notice the Mail have now popped up with teachers who are complaining about potential bullying and behaviour issues with mask-wearing. Couldn't face clicking on it and reading it in full, but I daresay it will those bastard Unions riling us up and making us continue moaning about everything.

Kashtan · 26/08/2020 10:26

@When, my worst ever cover was 3 1/2 weeks in as an nqt, really tough school. They took y8 off to Butlins so totally ignored the fact that nqts shouldn’t cover lesson until after Christmas. It was chaos. I had kids arguing with me, with each other walking out of the classroom and all sorts. What ever happens it can’t be as bad as that lesson.

Mistressiggi · 26/08/2020 10:27

I listened to an UfT rep on a radio programme yesterday. She said the SG's decision to have pupils over 12 wearing masks in corridors would lead to having 5 year olds sitting in masks for a full school day. Barmy.

hedgehogger1 · 26/08/2020 10:29

@WhenSheWasBad my experience of PR covers has always been good. It's been things like "give a football to PITA in science child they will sort out teams etc, oh give them a whistle too" literally just took register and they played football. Or there's more than one group on at a time so again just took register and other pe teacher joined them to her group.

Frlrlrubert · 26/08/2020 10:31

What week do they teach you how to deal with panic attacks ?

Ah, that was week 15 for me 'getting diagnosed with labyrinthitis before realising what was going on and getting anti-anxiety meds from the GP'.

You won't be expected to cover practical PE, just like a PE teacher wouldn't cover practical science. You'd do something classroom based instead.

Face coverings in schools a 'slippery slope' - Tory MP
Requiring pupils to wear face coverings in schools is a "slippery slope", says Conservative MP Huw Merriman.

The MP for Bexhill and Battle told BBC Radio 4's Today programme that he disagreed with the move because "we need to send the message out that our schools are safe with the measures that they've been taking and will be taking".

"Anything that sends a message out that it's not safe in the corridor means that it can't be safe in the classroom and we're on a slippery slope," he said.

Well that's their whole policy on everything so far isn't it? Just deny there's a problem until it's too late, and ignore what everyone else in the world is doing
WhyNotMe40 · 26/08/2020 10:34

It's the fingers in the ears, la la la, solution.

noblegiraffe · 26/08/2020 10:44

I just read a twitter thread that had been invaded by U4T. Blimey we get the watered down version on here.

Totally batshit.
