You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give ‘The Every twat for Themselves mob’ the staffroom password as a number of them are operating in an alternative reality.

No DfE muppets allowed

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the toffee vodka is hidden.

If you are fed up with cakes and biscuits there is now a cheeseboard on offer

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom. Close the door quietly on your way out

Well if they moved yours to coronavirus they ought to move the 'are teachers excited to be going back?' thread to staffroom, seeing as she claims her audience is fellow teachers.

Danglingmod · 28/08/2020 14:23

We can't do any inset, training, cpd, whole school or department meetings online because none of the teachers' computers have mics or webcams and none of the other computers around school (admin staff/staffroom/dept offices) even have speakers. We can do meetings etc from home (with our own provided laptops, obviously) but not in school!

GravityFalls · 28/08/2020 14:25

We don’t offer 4 A levels routinely unless a high flyer wants to do Maths + Further Maths or has a very good reason to do 4. And we would be expecting 8/9s across the board to do so. Advice from unis (inc Russell Group) is apparently that 3 excellent ones are far better than 4 lesser grades so the 4th is usually counter-productive. Extra curricular activities would be a better way to fill his timetable.

phlebasconsidered · 28/08/2020 14:33

Hopefully more than the milksop nasuwt have done!

phlebasconsidered · 28/08/2020 14:34

And good point gravity about extracurricular. I know he is in cadets with my ds so i will suggest the DOE award, the cadets are really great with that.

SaltyAndFresh · 28/08/2020 14:40

Just read our updated RA. It says we can mark books in school or at home and we don't need to wait 48 hours (although we do need to wait 48 hours between sharing text books, which we don't use anyway, between bubbles). No doubt therefore, there won't be any leeway with marking and book scrutiny.

Ickabog · 28/08/2020 14:42

Will you actually have any time to mark them at school?

School is open to staff from 7-6 but I have childcare to think about - I'm not relying on MIL. If necessary I'll have to do it in my bloody car.
SaltyAndFresh · 28/08/2020 14:45

Also we have to spray the desks with virucidal between lessons, then the kids wipe them down. Getting rid of the wipes and distributing books and resources without moving round the room is going to be interesting.

noblegiraffe · 28/08/2020 14:58

Don’t all these spray products say ‘use in well-ventilated areas’ on the bottle?

Piggywaspushed · 28/08/2020 15:05

Don't any of these kids have asthma or eczema? Or does coronavirus trump anaphylactic shock....?

Health and safety has literally been ripped up.

Danglingmod · 28/08/2020 15:08

It certainly will if we're teaching in abandoned Toys R Us branches

MrsHamlet · 28/08/2020 15:09

The book marking thing is driving me mad. We've been told 72 hours before we touch them and another 72 before we can give them back. There's no consistency at all.

Cadets and DOE would be excellent. He'll need things to write about in his personal statement so anything extra that shows he has interests outside of school is great. Work experience in what he wants to do is always good. Also a Saturday job gives lots of transferable skills (or if he is a strong swimmer and there is a local pool, lifeguarding pays extremely well for the age group).

I would be very cross if people were spraying virucidal chemicals in poorly ventilated classrooms if my kids were in there or shortly to enter! There's no way I would be doing that without mask and gloves either! Also - don't spray the desks directly! Spray a cloth, then wipe.
WhyNotMe40 · 28/08/2020 15:21

Wouldn't a wipe with a detergent solution be better and less risky? As coronavirus is susceptible to detergents?

CallmeAngelina · 28/08/2020 15:25

Re: marking books, I got my arse handed to me by some TBs back in July when a fellow teacher pointed out it was not allowed/against guidance, as I'd just spent days marking 6000 pieces of Home Learning work. Apparently, I was just whingeing and it's part of my job and I'd been sitting on my arse doing nothing for months so should be glad to do that marking. My point was about the inconsistency, but why let that get in the way of a good bash?

monkeytennis97 · 28/08/2020 15:49

Anyone on the NEU zoom at the moment?

Anyone on the NEU zoom at the moment?
No-I did see it was on, but needed to go out.

What are they saying?

WhyNotMe40 · 28/08/2020 15:55

I have my kids so can't. Are you able to give a synopsis?

SaltyAndFresh · 28/08/2020 15:56

Also - don't spray the desks directly! Spray a cloth, then wipe.

The RA literally says the kids should do the wiping. I believe the thinking is that the virucidal needs to left to do its magic for a minute or two, which implies we're expected to douse the desks liberally.

FrippEnos · 28/08/2020 15:58

@monkeytennis97

Anyone on the NEU zoom at the moment?
yup
WhyNotMe40 · 28/08/2020 16:00

Has anyone read the virucidal safety sheet though? Ventilation and gloves are probably required!
Mind you, I'm the person who refuses to use board cleaner - just diluted detergent 😁

monkeytennis97 · 28/08/2020 16:01

Talking about cleaning, marking, OFSTED, personal RA, collective responsibility, SLT drop ins, use of section 44.. loads of stuff.

CallmeAngelina · 28/08/2020 16:01

New tactic on noble's propaganda thread: to feign concern about her mental health.
Wankers.
