And Belgium, did I hear?

A friend of mine living in Germany has just had an announcement that masks are compulsory in their region now too. Sounds like parents are having the same hysterics over there from her Facebook post.

Just been reading that there have been outbreaks in 41 schools so far in Berlin, since they reopened 10 days ago Shock.

DS - secondary in Berlin, inner city, ca. 750 pupils, little outside space - restarted on 10th August - masks in corridors etc are mandatory, in class highly recomended. There's a one way system, sanitizing stations + basins in every classroom, an airing schedule (large windows everywhere), SD in classes - the vulnerable can stay home with online lessons with a medical certificate.
Outbreaks in schools are minor and usually connected with people returning from holiday or visiting family.

pressed post to soon:
DS had a mail home to remind him of SD.

41 outbreaks with that level of common sense and order is rather the opposite of reassuring!

Nicola S hinted masks may be coming to Scotland.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 21/08/2020 16:41

There are 825 schools in Berlin - one positive test is an outbreak.

Danglingmod · 21/08/2020 17:52

But it's still 5% of schools - in the first ten days of opening! With better measures in place than English schools...

FrenchFancie · 22/08/2020 07:43

They are compulsory in cyprus as well, when the kids go back on the 7th - but for all children aged 6 or over! Not sure how that will work in primary...

ineedaholidaynow · 22/08/2020 18:16

Just been on another thread and they are compulsory in Ireland too

WHO guidance on masks here:
www.who.int/news-room/q-a-detail/q-a-children-and-masks-related-to-covid-19
Recommended for children over 12.

We've just been told that wearing masks in lessons will be compulsory for secondary schools in Frankfurt for the next two weeks. We've been back for a week.
My school is just outside of the city and I teach at primary level. We have to wear masks when moving around the school building (both adults and children) and in the dinner hall. We have hand wash stations in the playground and most classrooms have sinks for handwashing, too. There is sanitiser in each classroom and we clean the tables and computers regularly. Due to last week's 30+ degrees, my windows are open all day anyway and we go outside for lessons when possible. Breaktimes and lunchtimes are staggered and we are avoiding mixing classes when possible (i.e. no phonics groups).
We'll see how this will develop...I find this easier than teaching them through Zoom and Seesaw.
