Gavin wants to help apparently!

He went on: "But the best thing we can do is make sure that every child is back into school in September.
"Is there anything more that I can do in order to make that happen? Well, if there is, tell me about this, and I will go out there and I will do it.”

What would you tell Gavin he needs to do to help schools re-open and stay open?

Temperature testing daily.
Money to schools for cleaning and ideally additional staffing.
Evidence of a negative tear MUST be provided before anyone returns.
Masks encouraged wherever possible and definitely worn in busy corridors.
Very clear posters and guidance widely publicised on the telly/social media explaining when parents should keep their child off. VERY clear-with specific details and red crosses if it’s a no!
No lesson observation, book scrutinies and PMR in the Autumn term.

Temperature testing irrelevant, at least half of all covid positives don’t have an elevated temp.
We do need money for hand sanitizer and cleaners.
Agree re evidence of negative results before returning.
A move to blended learning, at least at secondary where the kids will be ok at home ( so permitting their parents to return to work) eg one week in, one week out so classes are half the size.
Masks to be worn by students in secondary, teachers to choose.

At the beginning of May 2020 you need to ask primary schools to come up with a costed way of reducing teaching group size, using whatever community resource they have. Then given them the money to make it happen.

cdtaylornats · 14/08/2020 08:14

Why should teachers get to choose to wear masks or not?

hedgehogger1 · 14/08/2020 08:40

Regular Covid screening to try and catch asymptomatic outbreaks before they get too big.

Lemonsole · 14/08/2020 10:46

Proper enforcement of quarantine and isolation rules, and effective track and trace.

Everything fedup said.

Really irritated that the focus is just on opening the schools. Should be more focus on stopping the spread in schools and therefore reducing the likelihood of schools closing again.

IWantAPetUnicorn · 15/08/2020 10:49

@WhenSheWasBad yes I agree. It’s like they have full reopening on their checklist but don’t really care if there are local closures! There needs to be a huge public information scheme to emphasise that social distancing rules need to be followed by everyone to keep schools open.
