You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff. Baiters and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here only if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the toffee vodka is hidden.

If you are fed up with cakes and biscuits there is now a cheeseboard on offer

If you come with a stick to beat us with then please do so elsewhere and not in the staffroom

We were warned not to go anywhere that could lead to quarantine...

MrsHamlet · 13/08/2020 23:18

Our Head and one of the deputies is currently abroad. This could be interesting!

Danglingmod · 13/08/2020 23:20

Oh yes, and I do think it would have been a bit daft to have actively booked any foreign holiday once this all started regardless of the ridiculous "travel corridors" but I'm sure there'll be staff and students with pre-booked holidays who will be caught out. It's just so close to the beginning of term.

(Bit like wanging on about closing pubs "if we have to" to keep schools open. Needs doing now, not on the 31st August, if it's to help!)

ChloeCrocodile · 13/08/2020 23:29

My school sent an email earlier in the summer with undertones of “be back in the country 14 days before school in case there are unexpected quarantines imposed”, but were clear that if holidays were booked before COVID was a thing they’d be flexible.

More of a concern is how many parents will ignore quarantine rules and send their kids in anyway.

Sureitwillbegrand · 13/08/2020 23:41

I am one of those who booked in January, resigned myself to the fact we wouldn't be going when COVID kicked off then got hopeful and now gutted more so for DH who has been working throughout and needs a break ☹️ I won't be going but pissed off that I could go away in this country and get a track and trace call to quarantine!

HipTightOnions · 13/08/2020 23:43

...closing pubs "if we have to" to keep schools open. Needs doing now, not on the 31st August, if it's to help!

Looks like the opposite is happening.

Aw crap I’m going to have to cancel my illegal rave now.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 14/08/2020 00:28

As long as you have too many people for the police to shut it down you’re illegal rave should be fine.

TheHoneyBadger · 14/08/2020 01:21

@noblegiraffe

Yep. I’m going to shut down my boutique opium den on the 17h August. So much for rewarding entrepreneurial spirit.
TheHoneyBadger · 14/08/2020 01:24

Honestly if I decide to go to the pub and someone tries to tell me that as a teacher I should be housebound I’m not sure I’ll handle it politely.

BelleSausage · 14/08/2020 07:03

Locking us into this island is going to have bugger all effect if we are all infecting each other!

I have gone past despair and into acceptance. Too bad I still have two schemes of work to finish before next week 😭

Danglingmod · 14/08/2020 08:01

So, it's meaningless to keep saying "we'll close the pubs if we have to..." Have they still not figured out you have to do things proactively and at the right time than reactively after the horse has bolted?

Iamnotthe1 · 14/08/2020 08:10

@Danglingmod

But that wouldn't allow the level of manipulation that we've seen from this Government. They have no intention of closing pubs or anything else. For economical and political reasons, they need to have everything open as fully as possible.

The only reason they are even saying that they'd be willing to close anything is because the scientists in both the official SAGE and independent SAGE have spoken out. The Government has had to change it's public stance so that it doesn't look like they are working against the scientists - that's their main line of defence after all.

If we think back to a few months ago, there was no way that this level of removed restrictions was going take place when the R and level of infections were still as high as they are now. Remember the lovely graph showing how low the R would be when pubs would be allowed to reopen? That manipulation was needed at the time in order to calm the general population but it's been entirely discarded now because it's not convenient anymore.

Danglingmod · 14/08/2020 08:40

Oh, I know.

Yes, we seem to have lost that colour coded thing weeks ago. But even days after launching that they changed how they used it and the terminology around it.

hedgehogger1 · 14/08/2020 08:44

I teach in Northampton. The whole schools open even in lockdown is haunting me at the minute

Piggywaspushed · 14/08/2020 09:10

Any Polish kids at your place?

hedgehogger1 · 14/08/2020 09:39

We have a bit of everything :) I tend to like the polish kids, they are generally hard workers

FFS-I have just read that ‘horrid teachers refused my child drinking water’ post and wonder if it’s a sign of what we have to come in September.

It’s probably the T4U lot, but maybe not. We’ll be hearing about teachers who

Have lost my child’s coat and refused to look for at at lunchtime (as they were on duty elsewhere)?
Wouldn’t blow my child’s nose for him without going to get a visor which upset him.
Sent my child home when he only coughed three times.
Teacher is off with a bladder infection (not enough toilet breaks?!)
Hasn’t changed my child’s reading book (books still in a pile waiting x hours before going back into circulation).
Hasn’t properly marked any books (taking books home guidelines).
Not done split maths due to mixing guidelines and we aren’t ‘stretching him enough’.

I’m sure there are going to be plenty.

Probably lots moaning about being taught by goodness knows who, when the regular teacher is self isolating as well!

tadjennyp · 14/08/2020 10:04

A good chunk of MFL teachers will be visiting family at home, two of my friends among them. September will be interesting!

Could just have been the School Cruelty/Wee Troll. They’ll be loving the false assumption in Sept that we won’t be letting young children go to the toilet, ever. Or have a drink, ever, in case they need the toilet.
Rosieposy4 · 14/08/2020 10:29

I posted on the school drinking water thread, the OP is definitely an U4Them member, i think they actually mention it in one of their posts 😳

CallmeAngelina · 14/08/2020 10:52

I am going to stop reading school threads, I think (finally).
If I have to stomach another "children need to be in school and deserve an education" remark, in response to a rational explanation as to the issues that need resolving to enable that to happen...
It's "cancel the fucking cheque" all over again, like Groundhog Day.

FrippEnos · 14/08/2020 11:04

Its going to be interesting to see how long twats4them lasts.

Yes, definitely.

Twats4themselves is a good name!

Posted on the soft play thread. Everyone telling me kids spread Covid. Why doesn't that happen on school threads
