You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff. Baiters and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here only if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the toffee vodka is hidden.

If you are fed up with cakes and biscuits there is now a cheeseboard on offer

If you come with a stick to beat us with then please do so elsewhere and not in the staffroom

Just came to share in the WTFing

RigaBalsam · 11/08/2020 23:19

Could not make it up. Gav will definitely be for the chop.

MrsHamlet · 11/08/2020 23:23

I'm waiting for the emails from students to start appearing...

Fossie · 11/08/2020 23:24

@noblegiraffe

What. The Actual. Fuck.

Our A-level mocks were modified papers with our own grade boundaries because they hadn’t finished the course. How would that be fair comparison with a kid who did a full paper and got a mark using the real grade boundaries despite not having finished the course?

Fourthed
Hercwasonaroll · 11/08/2020 23:25

How many schools will now fabricate a mock for this? Have they lost their minds.

monkeytennis97 · 11/08/2020 23:25

Actually you're all wrong.. I was second.

Sureitwillbegrand · 11/08/2020 23:25

Agree WTF! To be fair our 'mock' grades were dire for A level so hopefully actual grades not worse than then!

ineedaholidaynow · 11/08/2020 23:25

The Government really don’t get how Secondary Schools work do they, every bit of guidance has been mainly focussed at Primaries and then they seem to have ‘oh fuck’ moments when they suddenly think of Secondaries.

MrsHamlet · 11/08/2020 23:27

@Hercwasonaroll I wonder how we're going to "verify" these. Our exams officer is married to the data manager and she heard when we did. It's appalling.

MrsHerculePoirot · 11/08/2020 23:28

Fifthed.

monkeytennis97 · 11/08/2020 23:29

@MrsHerculePoirot you are actually sixthed

ineedaholidaynow · 11/08/2020 23:30

Going to be interesting explaining to students/parents that you can’t use a mock grade where it wasn’t a proper mock if their mock grade is higher than the one they are awarded. Can just see the threads on MN now, and who they will be blaming.

BlanketyBlankAgain · 11/08/2020 23:31

Joining the WTFery...
Am an exams officer, only up late now because going was going to download our embargoed results at midnight just to check the download works okay. So 90 minutes before results are released just complete curveball, that solves no problems and will just create new ones.
What a kick in the teeth to everyone in schools and at exam boards, Ofqual etc... who had put in place a system that was probably actually as good as it would ever be in the circumstances.
Mocks are just inconsistent, and if students can use them, does this mean I'm now going to spend the rest of the summer answering queries from students and parents and submitting them to universities, exam boards etc... As surely they can't just take a student's word for it but will need to issue some sort of official certificate/result slip etc... Loads more work for schools - in the summer holidays!
Plus how on earth do you as teachers mark mocks next year if the same happens then? So much pressure on mock exams in future that were never intended to be used in that way...
Am furious...

noblegiraffe · 11/08/2020 23:31

Your dedication to this is making me laugh Grin

noblegiraffe · 11/08/2020 23:32

Plus how on earth do you as teachers mark mocks next year if the same happens then?

Oh god.

ineedaholidaynow · 11/08/2020 23:34

Mocks are going to be difficult enough this year as many students will still be trying to catch up on work they weren’t able to do last term

ThrawnCow · 11/08/2020 23:34

Am furious about this. So unfair compared to the Scottish 'solution'. Gav must go (after he u-turns on this ludicrous policy).

monkeytennis97 · 11/08/2020 23:35

@noblegiraffe GrinGrin

monkeytennis97 · 11/08/2020 23:36

Gav will go. Gove will return.

ShockEnvyAngry

ThrawnCow · 11/08/2020 23:37

Kill me now.

Valenciaoranges · 11/08/2020 23:38

This decision is so typical of this useless government and the utterly inept Secretary for Education....

MrsHamlet · 11/08/2020 23:38

@noblegiraffe

Plus how on earth do you as teachers mark mocks next year if the same happens then?

Oh god.

Some of my colleagues "go by their gut" when they mark. I prefer the "follow the mark scheme" approach. My students do less well in the mock but better in the exams... but now it appears I should have been giving Esmerelda a 7 just in case. I feel sick. @BlanketyBlankAgain good luck tomorrow and all the coming days
Hercwasonaroll · 11/08/2020 23:39

Would you rather... Gove or Gav?

It just shows a complete lack of understanding of the whole system.

I'm hoping it mellows into "mocks can be used to appeal".
