You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff. Baiters and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here only if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the toffee vodka is hidden.

If you are fed up with cakes and biscuits there is now a cheeseboard on offer

If you come with a stick to beat us with then please do so elsewhere and not in the staffroom

appu where was that ?? I think I can guess already who!!

Piggywaspushed · 31/07/2020 10:14

Has everyone else spotted the Us For Them missionaries' scripted phrase?

If anyone is watching Mrs America it reminds me of the Stop ERA women!

Piggywaspushed · 31/07/2020 10:15

Next time someone says it has badly affected children's mental health, I will request they bring forward peer assessed evidence.

noblegiraffe · 31/07/2020 10:21

Which one, piggy? ‘Did you know there hasn’t been single recorded transmission from a child to a teacher?’ is bugging me in its monotonous regularity.

Piggywaspushed · 31/07/2020 10:23

No, it's our children need to get back to school. It is badly affecting their mental health

The our is the clue.

It’s on the parenting board. Yes, probably!!
TheHoneyBadger · 31/07/2020 10:44

I think I’m going to have to invest in my own cheap visualiser. I simply cannot carry sets of textbooks across the school or rely on wishy washy ideas of don’t worry we’ve got a set in that block only to be unable to find them when the class is already late starting because I’ve come all the way from the top floor of another block.

Think someone recommended a cheap one a while back? I wonder if the school would at least be willing to order it for me so I don’t have to pay vat? Somehow doubt it

Kidneybingo · 31/07/2020 10:48

Visualisers are so worth it, especially if we are at the front.
I've vowed not to spend my own money any more after all the hate! Grin It's going to be so hard though!

StaffAssociationRepresentative · 31/07/2020 10:53

Kids across the way are having a great time with sprinklers at the moment. In fact the majority in my small cul-de-sac seem to be having a fun time - granted the parents might not be but some seem to be hands on. I think they are about 8 to young teen age wise. No little ones. But the kids have built a shelter in the green which is their summer den.

I am starting to read that as it is mucking up my plans/life as a parent.

@TheHoneyBadger our school have bought some visualisers. Think they got a grant from RSC (chemistry not Shakespeare). Worth asking. We are going to have someone doing a practical in a prep room and streaming it to all classes. And record it for later use too. No idea if it will work !

TheHoneyBadger · 31/07/2020 11:52

I think we had them in some classrooms in science but highly doubtful in history and when I mentioned trolleys for people with mobility issues in an online meeting the head was clear we can’t even afford that. I can just imagine our lovely prep room ladies doing recorded practicals Smile

I’ve just bought a cheap one on amazon. Hope it’s not shite.

I’ve opted for one I can use a manual focus on as it’ll be text pages for the most part and has a mic built in (not needed for school but useful for home learning when it happens).

Bit of a blind faith purchase.

There are loads of recorded required practicals online - it seems every school wants to have their YouTube stars! We have used a lot as the peripatetic nature of my job makes doing practicals very difficult.

Found this : useful if anyone persists in telling us our job is low risk:

So this is annoying.

I mention life insurance here and I've had two emails today from random companies I don't recognise to my private and mn email address...Hmm

Flagsfiend · 31/07/2020 12:16

Absence of evidence is not evidence of absence. It's a basic scientific understanding, very annoying.
Piggywaspushed · 31/07/2020 12:19

Also 'our children cannot be deprived of their legal right to education any longer for a disease that is statistically very unlikely to affect them'.

Piggywaspushed · 31/07/2020 12:20

So... no bowling alleys, casinos or wedding receptions over 30 until the 15th. Face coverings in galleries, museums and other indoor spaces. FFS.

Piggywaspushed · 31/07/2020 12:21

and they are too scared to have a highly socially distanced crowd at The Oval and The Crucible...

Piggywaspushed · 31/07/2020 12:22

First question on the briefing is about schools and work : 'risking lives over livelihoods'.

Nice.

Piggywaspushed · 31/07/2020 12:23

Boris answered with schools are 'safe and Covid secure'.

Piggywaspushed · 31/07/2020 12:24

HANDS FACE SPACE is the new one!

Are we just HANDS...?

Piggywaspushed · 31/07/2020 12:25

And now Whitty says we have reached the limits of opening up!

Strongly implies that things will need to shut down to open things up.

Piggywaspushed · 31/07/2020 12:26

People with no dependent children will be getting increasingly pissed off at the notion that they need to make sacrifices.

Piggywaspushed · 31/07/2020 12:30

This HANDS FACE SPACE is a Godsend for us.

Surely people will begin to realise 'our children' aren't getting this??
