You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff. Baiters and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here only if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the toffee vodka is hidden.

If you are fed up with cakes and biscuits there is now a cheeseboard on offer

If you come with a stick to beat us with then please do so elsewhere and not in the staffroom

Yes, that is current advice. I think it does also mention SD for older children in the DfE guidelines...

ohthegoats · 14/07/2020 19:30

SD is in our RA, but for adults.

No wonder we have to spend so much time trying to teach resilience to children if parents are basically allowing them to be complete lemons.

It's very noticeable in the park. Child falls over, OH DAARLING coming from some parents, all the parents who are teachers ignore it or say 'do I need to chop that bit off?' and get on with it.

I've had to.talk to.ds about over dramatic reactions to hurting himself. He gets almost hysterical if hurts himself and it makes me even less sympathetic than usual. I.put it down to not playing out enough sans adults and therefore not damaging himself on a weekly basis like we did in my day.

Piggywaspushed · 14/07/2020 20:33

I just got details for DS's GCSE results day. bet my own school hasn't even thought about this.

Bless them it's really quite sweet : they have bookable appointment slots because they are aware students might be emotional and want to hug each other, or console each other so they are trying to restrict numbers in as sensible a way as they can.
Bittersweet, really.

MrsHerculePoirot · 14/07/2020 20:45

We’re doing results days remotely this year.

ohthegoats · 14/07/2020 22:19

What will the papers do about slightly pervy photos of A-levels results girls jumping in air? Paps going to have to hang around outside houses.

Rosieposy4 · 14/07/2020 23:05

Our results days are slt and sixth form advisors in only, rest of teaching staff not to attend contrary to usual. Kids in timed slots

At my DDs rugby matches the other parents get very worried if she cries - ‘it must be serious, she NEVER cries’- no, doesn’t get any sympathy for tripping up from her teacher parents 😂
MsAwesomeDragon · 14/07/2020 23:18

We gave out details for our results days last week. The year 11 results day is virtual, with bookable appointments available on the day with the sixth form team and the careers advisor. The sixth form results day is bookable appointments in person, with results emailed to them as well.

In other news, I've developed a cough. So I've got a test booked for tomorrow afternoon, and I'm self isolating until the results come back. Not going to be in school for the last couple of days of term then. Hopefully it's just an ordinary cold. I really, really don't want this to be covid!!!

Brilliant use of the word paps in all its meanings there.

Finger crossed for you MrsAD.

noblegiraffe · 15/07/2020 00:23

A-level results day 2020 sorted.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 15/07/2020 01:04

I think they are supposed to still be social distancing while wearing a mask. Wink

noblegiraffe · 15/07/2020 01:27

Excellent point, Rafa

3 more school days until end of term for me.

Good luck @msawesomedragon hope you get a negative.

Can't wait for the holiday. Never wanted one more!

MrsHerculePoirot · 15/07/2020 07:21

Good luck @mrsawesomedragon I had to have a red in Sunday as I was really unwell with high temp, achey/painful muscles in my legs, really tired etc... DD had similar. So me, DH, DD has test Sunday lunchtime and I emailed their school saying they wouldn’t be in etc. Until we got results. Which all cane via text at 6 am Monday morning!!! All negative so I got the kids up and in they went.... you can imagine how pleased they were 😂

MsAwesomeDragon · 15/07/2020 08:03

Thanks for the sympathy guys. It's interesting to hear how quickly your test results came back herc. It's a year 12 week this week, and I'm only in on Thursday and Friday afternoons. I don't want to miss them if I can help it, they will only be covered if my hod volunteers to go in and do it, and they really need as much teacher input as possible right now. If my results could come in as soon as tomorrow morning I might still be able to go in for their lesson in the afternoon and I won't even consider that it might come back positive

MsAwesomeDragon · 15/07/2020 08:05

I love that picture noble. That's what it'll look like, definitely. I can even predict which girls they'd pick from my school, although that would only be in the local news. We're too far North for any national newspapers to come this far, lol.

motherrunner · 15/07/2020 10:25

BBC today re masks
www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-53415030

When you're in close proximity with somebody that you have to work closely to, if you're there for a long time with them, then a mask doesn't offer that protection.
"The same logic applies for schools - we're not recommending masks for schools because if you're in a classroom with kids all day then a mask doesn't give you protection."

Looks like it’s a big fat no.

noblegiraffe · 15/07/2020 10:36

Someone needs to point out that secondary teachers aren’t in a room with the same kids all day.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 15/07/2020 10:37

Fortunately in this government words mean nothing and a big fat no can mean yes by the end of the week.

My guess is they’ll step it up incrementally. Having started with public transport, then extended to shops, they’ll go with all public places and then schools. Unfortunately what everyone’s going to remember is Hancock saying it isn’t necessary because you know people and under, inning the message.

Mistressiggi · 15/07/2020 10:38

BUT I don't just work with pupils I work alongside many, many adults and will be in proximity to them and to lots of other students I don't teach. I think face masks should be worn in corridors and communal spaces. In some office blocks you might work with a dozen people but to pass through the foyer and up in the lifts and along the corridors you could add in dozens more to your breathing "mix".
So basically he's saying face masks aren't recommended because if someone in your class has CV you're going to be at risk anyway.

Piggywaspushed · 15/07/2020 10:43

I think the epidemiological answer would be that the kids should all wear them to protect us.

Piggywaspushed · 15/07/2020 10:46

I genuinely think he has made that up : I have not seen that anywhere! Nurses have just been told off for not wearing masks at Hillingdon hospitals.
