You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff. Baiters and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here only if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the toffee vodka is hidden.

If you are fed up with cakes and biscuits there is now a cheeseboard on offer

If you come with a stick to beat us with then please do so elsewhere and not in the staffroom

Yes, so have we.

(And had families cancelling their appeals for more so-called sought after schools, because they've heard on the grapevine how much better our provision has been.)

Well let’s try and hang onto positive reality then instead of warped opinions of disease deniers on mn. They’re surely personas? No one could be that vile in real life and not have been strangled by now.

I did also get 'we loved being nosey at your bookshelves' though. Ha. Luckily I removed the Richard Herring book 'Talking Cock', and another one called 'The F**kit List' (with the stars, I'm not beind a prude).

I'm so glad I never did any videos with my house in the background. My bookshelves don't have any books on them Blush. I only read on my Kindle now. My house is a complete mess, and needs a thorough declutter before anyone would be allowed to see it.

I always put the background on. The minecraft one seemed to be the favourite. I could have just put my voice on and no camera. It was weird not seeing them though.

I haven’t heard anyone in RL complain about school provision during lockdown. Most people accept it’s a difficult situation and that everyone does the best they can even if it’s not ideal.

I just had book shelves in our family room thing, our desk was straight in front of them, so not much else to see. One day while checking the video, I noticed an abandoned cereal bowl on one of the shelves, but decided to leave it there.

I'm getting ill - doesn't feel bad, but always ill at the end of term, so going to assume not the proper lurg. Am exhausted.

Thanks to bigchocfrenzy on the graphs and numbers thread - a study of effectiveness of various SD measures in many countries suggests that closing schools reduces R by 50% (although presumably that's at the start of the pandemic rather than now so not completely applicable to us in September):

For those thinking of face shields, it looks like there’s an outbreak in Switzerland, where only those wearing face shield were affected and those wearing masks weren’t.

Might be applicable if SLT or the govt suggest visors are fine.

But we are told that masks don’t protect you, they protect other people.

Why is it that with the best boffins on the case, we are still unsure about this??

Oh dear. I accidentally joined UsForThem England on Facebook.

I didn't answer the questions for the main Us For Them lot but be default seem to be on the subsite.

They are corona deniers no matter how they dress themselves and this worries me as they don't believe in track and trace, risk assessments, queuing, masks or anything really. They will definitely send their kids in sick.

One was berating a Unison risk assessments (not understanding who that union represent ) and sod' would they expect a risk assessment when they go for their weekly shop?'

Ermmm.... yes?

There are men o there but the posting has a recognisable MN tone , without the disagreements. God, how they must make their own DCs so anxious! If there are MH issues (I wouldn't say this to them directly on other threads) they really need to look at their onw 'hysterical' responses.

Apologies. I wasn’t around for the it drama and she was referring to me after giving up on the don’t feed it comment. I just went and tried to post the following only to discover the thread was full:

“It doesn’t respond to questions” refers to propaganda and derailing attempts. A phenomena. It.

Propaganda and strategies to derail and destroy meaningful conversations doesn’t have a gender. It is a thing.“

I can’t believe how the thread continued last night - it was Groundhog Day! And trying to accuse posters of bullying -ffs!

Anyway, have you seen BBC news? Apparently we’re being thanked for our services during the pandemic with a pay increase.

An increase promised to us in January ...
... out of school budgets ... after a 7 year pay freeze and increased pension contributions 🤔

Ding dong - round 2 on that thread. Keyboard warriors will be out in force following pay rise announcement. I can never keep up with keyboard warrior name changes.

I feel it will go along the lines of ‘pay rise? They should have all been furloughed for not working during summer holiday or whatever’

@StaffAssociationRepresentative The cynic in almost feels the wording of the BBC article is pure provocation, especially with the quotations from Labour stating the truth but will be seen as ‘leftie moaners’.

TheHoneyBadger · 21/07/2020 08:35

It’s going to be 2% I’m guessing. 2% rise minus tax and ni and 7.4% pension deductions. On a 0.4fte contract it might just cover a latte a month. Or a packet of antibacterial wipes

Report
motherrunner · 21/07/2020 08:37

Oh yes, here’s an extra £2 a month, buy yourself some Kleenex - Balsalm if you’re lucky!

TheHoneyBadger · 21/07/2020 08:44

Grin 3.1% apparently. Should be close to £20pm after deductions. Life changing stuff! They’ll be clambering to be teachers with such massive pay rises after a decade of real terms pay cuts.

I’m going to change that £20 into change and shower myself in pennies (after I have bleached them of course)

That’s okay @Flagsfiend. I could always make a comment about you purchasing the gloves with our generous pay increase and rile everyone up that way!

Go for it, I'll get some popcorn - I've already spent nearly £100 on other things for school next year to help me cope with the new guidelines :(

Yes, so far I have purchased a trolley (due to teaching in 7 different classrooms) and a 2ltr flask (so don’t have to waste time making coffee when I can be weeing). I feel so unprepared!
