You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff. Baiters and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here only if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the toffee vodka is hidden.

If you are fed up with cakes and biscuits there is now a cheeseboard on offer

If you come with a stick to beat us with then please do so elsewhere and not in the staffroom

Boots do delivery i think.

WhyNotMe40 · 14/07/2020 11:40

My kids primary won't be doing after school club either. We've arranged that DH will finish early one afternoon and make up hours on the Saturday, while the other day (I only work 1.5 days and the 0.5 off is trapped) I will ask another mum to pick them up with hers, I will leave my school just after my students, and meet her at the park.

Welsh guidelines say...
Encourage before and after school clubs to reopen.

But also say
Minimise mixing of different groups of children.

How is that going to work?

I know I shouldn’t lower myself and read this tag, but what does this even mean?!!

Do people who write this drivel actually believe it?

Nobel, I've pmed you

NeurotrashWarrior · 14/07/2020 12:56

We've had the outline of what's happening for us and I'm trying to process it with a level of perspective.

With mixed success!

NeurotrashWarrior · 14/07/2020 12:57

Ah Jesus. Brexit stock pile too to think about.

This winter is going to suck.

NeurotrashWarrior · 14/07/2020 13:00

So visors protect your own face? Are they any good? I think I'd feel happier if I could wear one with asthma tbh.

WhyNotMe40 · 14/07/2020 13:13

I thought visors only protected against direct coughs and sneezes - air can still freely go around them, so only floating droplets can still be breathed in which might be caught by a mask

WhyNotMe40 · 14/07/2020 13:13

Only - I meant any. Having a bad typo day today....

Piggywaspushed · 14/07/2020 13:31

Haha! Given my constant reminder to people that I have NO WINDOWS, I feel like I may be being cyberstalked....

Piggywaspushed · 14/07/2020 13:32

There'll be one about allergies to anti bac next...

ohthegoats · 14/07/2020 13:32

Yeah, they only protect you from someone coughing or sneezing in your face, but you know... kids!

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 14/07/2020 13:37

Have you tried wearing a mask with asthma Neuro. It might be OK. The only day I’ve really struggled was a hot humid day where I decided not to bother taking it off walking from work into town.

I find the disposible ones are better, so I’ve tended to use those if it’s been particularly warm and humid since then.

ohthegoats · 14/07/2020 13:39

From the Al-Taqwa school outbreak in Melbourne:

It is believed to have started with a grade six teacher, who is thought to have contracted the virus at a family gathering, and it has spread rapidly to staff and students.

At this stage, 147 cases have been linked to the school.

Figures provided to 7.30 by Victoria's Department of Health show 76 of those cases are students, 28 are staff, 16 are close contacts and 27 remain under investigation.

NeurotrashWarrior · 14/07/2020 14:11

Yes piggy I need to query a window too.

There'll be one about allergies to anti bac next...

Well that's been worry today. It's not an allergy but a lot of the soaps and sprays affect my asthma, especially scented ones, alcohol and things like Milton.

Can anyone with asthma comment on selgiene?

NeurotrashWarrior · 14/07/2020 14:12

Yes I'm ok with a mask Rafals. Working in sen there's risk if spit but tbh as you say it's all pointless if it's air borne.

StaffAssociationRepresentative · 14/07/2020 14:15

Loving those ‘mumsnet’ tweets 😂

We got word yesterday that before and after school club is running, kids in same bubbles as in normal school. All year groups are mixed this year to reduce the number of bubbles I suppose - so F/Y1, Y2 are on their own for some reason, then y 3/4 and 5/6. So only 4 bubbles. They’ll need to have extra staff as they usually only have three and will be starting at 3, I guess to help with staggered leaving times, which will cost me more, but thank god they’re on!

Saucery · 14/07/2020 14:25

DS’s secondary having staggered arrival times on the first day (not very different from what they usually do tbh, with Yr7 and 1 other year group in until the afternoon). Talk of ‘Year Group Bubbles’ but emphasising that no further info can be given until w/b 17th Aug after they have had the 11th guidance to look at and plan from.
I hope they can close the doors at the end of this week and have a proper break from all of it. They have been bloody fantastic throughout.

NeurotrashWarrior · 14/07/2020 15:01

Just had a great chat with my local union rep who happens to work in a local school and knows my slt. It was v reassuring actually to hear how the unions, phe and slt are coordinating on risk assessments etc. We don't have any academies in my area though so maybe different to other areas. He did point out that local PHE people told him that most of the cases locally were in care homes, which for round here means it's barely about at all. At that visors will only protect against spit. No idea re masks. Obviously many changes to happen over the summer.
