Returning from maternity leave

Hi,

I am due to return from mat leave on 13th July. Although there are significantly reduced pupil numbers, from this week all staff are expected to be in school.

I contacted my head a few weeks ago to ask what will happen as I am unable to come into school for the last week of term. My parents were going to look after my LO but as they are 70+ I don’t feel comfortable doing this.

I have been unable to view any childcare settings so this is not an option.

My boss said they “couldn’t give me an answer” when I asked if I could work from home for that week.

The NEU says I can be furloughed, but I didn’t think public sector workers could be?

Is anyone else in a similar situation?

You can't be furloughed as a public sector employee.

It would take a dick of a boss to force you in if they don't need you.

I'd keep asking. Stress you need an answer for your mental health.

Phone in on the first day back and say you need to take leave due to no childcare if they are really twatsish.

I phoned today but couldn’t speak to them because they are working from home!!

I'd put everything in writing. Email, set out your issues and ask what they expect in your scenario?

I did this initially and had the “I don’t know” response, will send another and see what is said.

Thanks

Keep emailing! Do you have a union rep in school?

She’s on maternity herself and the person who was stepping in is off now too Confused
