You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff. Baiters and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here only if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the toffee vodka is hidden.

If you are fed up with cakes and biscuits there is now a cheeseboard on offer

If you come with a stick to beat us with then please do so elsewhere and not in the staffroom

And it’s perfectly safe now! As a clinically extremely vulnerable member of staff I’m a-ok to return to my tiny Reception classroom in September! Happy days, thanks Gav!

GravityFalls · 02/07/2020 12:35

HoneyBadger, me too. I just can't take unpaid leave when I rely totally on my salary.

phlebasconsidered · 02/07/2020 12:56

So i'm just teaching a class of 34 as normal then. Except now I get to clean up after them more.

And apparently it's super safe so autoimmunity is A Ok.

And my ds, whose only skills are in dt, food tech and science is going to hate school even more than he already does.

And no fucker in the dfe has ever been taught in a state school, or gives a tiny shit about the people in them.

My can do attitude has run away to hide and is furiously looking for other possible jobs.

NeurotrashWarrior · 02/07/2020 12:56

Well, the clinically vulnerable and extremely clinically vulnerable advice currently remains the same; there's still increased risk and so to be aware of this within the risk assessment.

The advice still links to the same guidance.

We can go back but it's advised to be extra careful and flexible. No idea what that actually means.

NeurotrashWarrior · 02/07/2020 12:57

Ah phleb, I'm sorry, cross post. The way you've been treated is shit.

NeurotrashWarrior · 02/07/2020 12:59

Once again, this is Lesley to be extra shit for women, especially single mothers who teach or are tas.

phlebasconsidered · 02/07/2020 13:00

It means i'll be in or on unpaid leave which I can't afford. The academy risk assessment says "yes" as they've followed the government advice so it MUST be safe!

And i've got spitty bitey kid again next year. Joy of mixed year classes. I wonder how they'll make evacuation of the classroom safe this year when he kicks off.

Appuskidu · 02/07/2020 13:20

There is a poster on all of the other school threads (HFP) who sounds suspiciously like a TB from countless other threads since lockdown who I think is really going to get on my nerves today...

Saucery · 02/07/2020 13:30

That is thoroughly covered in the SEND advice, phlebas (saliva).

You’ll never guess what...............

................ ...........

WASH YOUR HANDS MORE!

They are just amazing in that they really have covered every eventuality. So reassuring!

Asuitablecat · 02/07/2020 13:34

The secondary bubbles will be pointless. The other night, our local woods were more full of teenagers than I've ever seen. All clustered together, playing music etc. It was like neverland up there. So yes, they may be in bubbles from 830 until 330, but not after that.

TheThreeHeadedBeast · 02/07/2020 13:47

Some pupils with complex needs will struggle to maintain as good respiratory hygiene as their peers, for example those who spit uncontrollably or use saliva as a sensory stimulant. This should be considered in risk assessments in order to support these pupils and the staff working with them and is not a reason to deny these pupils face to face education.

That's all of us stuffed then, we have about 1 per class!

TheHoneyBadger · 02/07/2020 13:55

I’m sure they’re reading our threads to have covered spitting so thoroughly

BlessYourCottonSocks · 02/07/2020 14:01

Ofqal proposals out for next year's exams, those of us that teach secondary. No change to A level! So my Y12s who've had 6 months out of school can just suck it up, buttercup...Angry

Appuskidu · 02/07/2020 14:05

The guidance is basically saying, ‘don’t do any of these risky things, ‘IF POSSIBLE’. So it’s business as normal and TAs paid minimum wage can soak up the fact that some children with SEN with will spit at them and kick them.

willselfdestructin10seconds · 02/07/2020 14:17

For all the TA's out there, to save you wading through reems of steducationendowmentfoundation.org.uk/tools/guidance-reports/making-best-use-of-teaching-assistants/uff.... thoughts?...

DreamingofBrie · 02/07/2020 14:20

@Appuskidu

That poster sounds like one who went all Pollyanna all of a sudden (I think on the thread about volunteer teachers to help children catch up over the summer, way way back) then disappeared off into the ether.

educationendowmentfoundation.org.uk/tools/guidance-reports/making-best-use-of-teaching-assistants/

Sorry, this link...........

Piggywaspushed · 02/07/2020 14:20

I think we all know who HFP is.

Keepdistance · 02/07/2020 14:50

I think they seem to have a MH problem (cant cope with their kids).

So Us for Them seems to have 'won'. Them for themself, not giving a crap about the older/EV/V.

Piggywaspushed · 02/07/2020 14:56

Sitting pupils side by side is fascinating. It very strongly implies that they are, however, not supposed to 'chat'.

Us for Them are dreadful dreadful women.

I want to know who this 'Us' is because they aren't the ones doing the sacrificing, frankly. 'You for Them' would be more accurate or'Them for Mine'.

Piggywaspushed · 02/07/2020 14:58

NEU needs to tread a cautious line here otherwise they will be landed on:

The NEU is seriously concerned about the minimal suggestions made in Ofqual’s proposals for exams in summer 2021. It is welcome that the options for each subject have been considered based on the nature of that subject, as opposed to suggesting generic changes that may not suit each one. However in the majority of subjects the expectation that the full specification can be covered by next summer, after many months of lost teaching time, still remains.

They basically seem to TBs to admit that no teaching has occurred. they should say progress has been slowed or hampered.

Keepdistance · 02/07/2020 15:02

I think the stand out worst bits so far (havent read it yet)
2 cases before they pop a bubble WTAF!
If they allow after school breakfast clubs etc.

What balls to come out with that after having to shut Leicester and schools...

Surely as a minimum parents should be able to select a class if there are 2 where 1 class doesnt do ASC.

Also with the fines if people are worried they will be saying their dc is ill constantly.
I dont see how we have gone from
Shielders cant leave the house/put bins out. Vulnerable should strictly SD. To this.

ohthegoats · 02/07/2020 15:03

making use of existing flexibilities to create time to address gaps in knowledge

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAAA

That's all I've got to say about that.

Appuskidu · 02/07/2020 15:05

If they allow after school breakfast clubs etc

It’s this (plus allowing supply/visitors/trip/volunteers) in schools that stands out most to me.

It’s just school with no attempts at mitigating risk.

Saucery · 02/07/2020 15:08

I don’t know if anyone here watches What We Do In The Shadows, but in the latest series Colin Robinson, the Energy Vampire, takes great delight in transferring his considerable energy-draining skills to the internet.
I would suggest there are quite a few ‘Colin Robinsons’ out and about on the Active school threads at the moment. They want a response and will get more offhand, insulting and ignorant in order to get a rise out of teachers and school staff. I nearly fell for one particularly ridiculous statement then it struck me. Someone out there (several Someones in fact) want to add to my fear and stress and are quite deliberate and obvious in their attempts to do that.
So no, Colin Robinson, fuck off Smile
