You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff. Baiters and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here only if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the toffee vodka is hidden.

If you are fed up with cakes and biscuits there is now a cheeseboard on offer

If you come with a stick to beat us with then please do so elsewhere and not in the staffroom.

I wondered about key worker children at that point too. I mean, if shops are all open, why is someone who works in Tesco a key worker, but someone who works in Next not a key worker? All got to go to work.

If care isn't provided over the summer, then there won't be any come September.

ElvisandAngel · 14/06/2020 19:28

Yes and all working parents, not based at home will need provision for their primary children when they are not at school, not just key workers.

Something will have to give.

Plus the key worker children are taking up a classroom that we are going to need.

Beawillalwaysbetopdog · 14/06/2020 19:30

Surely all the teachers will be busy teaching their classes as even though the kids are in PT, we'd be in FT? Who would be available for staffing the keyworker provision?

ohthegoats · 14/06/2020 19:33

Perhaps they go in and out of their classes and a KW bubble?

We've got children at the moment doing both weeks with their year groups - it will benefit those specific children to do the same stuff (with a little variation), but that obviously doesn't work for everyone.

WhyNotMe40 · 14/06/2020 19:40

But if you have children crossing bubbles, doesn't that just defeat the purpose of the bubble?

WhyNotMe40 · 14/06/2020 19:43

My theory is that come September we will have dispensed with social distancing within school bubbles, and have bubbles of 30 (or whatever the class size is).
Which in secondary will mean mixed ability teaching and some students having their options messed up. They might have to have some options totally remote teaching. So juggle groups to match option blocks of students into the same "bubble" and see what you can do for the ones that don't fit.
Which will be a nightmare.

Piggywaspushed · 14/06/2020 19:48

None of this is what any of use signed up for , is it.

Deep sigh.

WhyNotMe40 · 14/06/2020 19:56

Nope

ElvisandAngel · 14/06/2020 19:57

No!

WhyNotMe40 · 14/06/2020 19:58

And I really hope the school allows childminders to pick up as my #3 child is supposedly starting reception and they do half days for settling in. Obviously if I'm teaching I cannot get him. Neither can DH as he is also working. If push comes to shove it will have to be me that walks as my job pays peanuts compared to DHs and I'm very part time.

Beawillalwaysbetopdog · 14/06/2020 20:00

If scotland's any indication, they still seem to be saying keyworker provision in sep (judging by the angry at sturgeon thread).

ElvisandAngel · 14/06/2020 20:03

I am thinking that if teaching in school is not going to work, because of my own family commitments, then there will be a lot of children who will need private tutors and this will be more easy to juggle around my own children, until things are a little more normal.

Downton57 · 14/06/2020 20:05

They are very angry with Nicola Sturgeon. Getting their knickers in a proper twist. Frankly I think they're kicking off unnecessarily, as if all goes well, the part-time, blended learning system won't be necessary for very long, if at all. I'm actually considering coming off Mumsnet altogether. I don't feel I've got anything in common with these people at all. It all seems to be anti-teacher rage and anti-trans hysteria on here nowadays.

ohthegoats · 14/06/2020 20:08

Yeah, tutors are doing really well right now!

If there is no wrap around provision, then my partner will have to pick up child every day - she'll be spending a lot of time in front of screens still.

Today I managed to get her to sit in a den, listening to a story and doing some colouring. First time she's done colouring for weeks. All she does is whine for screens, it's constant. We don't let her anywhere near them until 4pm at the earliest, but it literally starts at 8am. "I'm only interested in watching TV". She used to colour, trampoline, draw, paint, playdough, lego, play mobile. Now, TV. Well, whine for TV.

Yup, totally agree, keep thinking that I must have some serious self loathing issues to keep coming back.

Asuitablecat · 14/06/2020 20:43

I was woken at 6am by Dd shouting for help.

On.his Xbox in the livng room.

Dd is video calling her mates all day on an old phone we've msde a coronaphone. Does that count as screen time? It's nice hearing her chatter away, but it's pretty constant. But then, usually she'd be out playing with her mate.

SquashedFlyBiscuits · 14/06/2020 21:15

Elvis and Beawill, I have the same worries. A two teacher family here.

Well report any anti-trans posts you see, they will be deleted faster than ones about teachers! Though I do think you might be confusing support for women's rights with anti-trans hysteria (hysteria being an interesting word in this context) Not really for our staff thread though Thanks
Cantaloupeisland · 14/06/2020 23:10

There's an article on the daily fail online about how 'experts' are now claiming our kids are facing an obesity time bomb due to not being in school. Yes that's right, it's now also our fault that some students will have been eating junk food at home. To quote many a year 10 girl, I can't even...

ineedaholidaynow · 14/06/2020 23:21

Can I blame my weight gain on teachers too!

Mistressiggi · 14/06/2020 23:30

Half the population is losing weight due to new exercise regimes, the other is putting it on!

tadjennyp · 14/06/2020 23:53

I have done every blooming PE with Joe mistress and have still put a couple of pounds on. Most disgruntled!

JimmyGrimble · 15/06/2020 00:43

Oh god don’t get me started on that little sod. I’m doing KW 2 days a week and every morning after I’ve been so stiff and achy. Took me ages to work out it was joe bloody wicks’s fault. No more chuffing kangaroo hops or bear crawls for this 51 year old.

Mistressiggi · 15/06/2020 01:03

I have moved to Joe Wicks for seniors - even that's too hard!

JimmyGrimble · 15/06/2020 01:12

If it’s sitting down I might consider it. Otherwise no dice!
