You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff. Baiters and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here only if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the toffee vodka is hidden.

If you are fed up with cakes and biscuits there is now a cheeseboard on offer

If you come with a stick to beat us with then please do so elsewhere and not in the staffroom.

@Piggywaspushed

But Kenneth Baker gave us Baker Days!

Turncoat.

Which came off our holidays if I recall correctly, so it's true to form really!
CarrieBlue · 12/06/2020 14:00

Yep, not content with chipping away 5 holiday days, he wants more taken away. Whilst the House of Lords continues working remotely and taking the full parliamentary holidays which are far longer than school holidays (even with the extra 5 days he owes us)

ohthegoats · 12/06/2020 14:04

Oh he can fuck off.

Nothing will change 'at home' for children over the summer holidays. Ie, the ones who have done no work (for whatever reason - busy parents, no tech, SEND etc) will still do no work. Those who could have come to school as vulnerable, or with SEND, but haven't, still won't come to school. And since lots of workplaces are back now, you can't differentiate between a supermarket worker and someone who works at Next. They still need the same childcare time.

It will be a pointless waste of time and effort.

Appuskidu · 12/06/2020 14:29

Omg, what a complete twat-how dare he?

Lostmyshityear9 · 12/06/2020 14:30

We'd need the army to step up and teach

OMG I love that idea! Teach year 9 some bloody discipline. Have 'em parading around and then doing some kind of logistical warfare maths, negoiating end of conflict agreements in a foreign language and writing suck up letters to POTUS in English. Science could be bomb making, some lifeskills food tech of dried stuff over a camp fire and sketching maps of where the landmines are in art. Map reading for geography and every single bloody battle the British have ever taken part in the world over for history. Sorted.

Piggywaspushed · 12/06/2020 14:41

can we add writing some War Poetry for the more sensitive end of the spectrum??

CarrieBlue · 12/06/2020 14:44

The Army who have been part of the nightingale hospitals are doing their usual day-to-day job, they haven’t given squaddies a scalpel and told them to crack on with a bit of surgery. The army have no primary or secondary teachers so how on earth would they be any use? Maybe get them to build school buildings on some of their training land?

phlebasconsidered · 12/06/2020 15:28

I have to say our cadet captains are marvellous - they would love to take your year 8 and 9's and get them doing pt, drill and making bivvies! My ds hates school but he will do anything for cadets.

Gearing up for our team meeting to hear the latest. I've actually got a strawberry gin ready.

But getting the army proper in? I think they have enough to do. And they would be the first to admit it's not their skill set.

Great article in The Guardian. It really is a shame only The Guardian is doing this though:

www.theguardian.com/education/2020/jun/12/headteachers-berate-non-stop-guidance-changes-for-englands-schools

EducatingArti · 12/06/2020 15:43

Maybe squaddies could clean the loos?

pinkrocker · 12/06/2020 15:47

Great tweet here from the DfE. They sound quite hurt. twitter.com/educationgovuk/status/1271447263269859328?s=09

TheHoneyBadger · 12/06/2020 15:47

Maybe they could just give every teacher a squaddie to use as they see fit? They’re very handy with an iron.

TheHoneyBadger · 12/06/2020 15:55

Wow atDfE not knowing September IS next year in education.

Downton57 · 12/06/2020 16:01

Love Mrs May, but she must be older than me. Retire, Mrs May, and don't let them talk you into returning.

Piggywaspushed · 12/06/2020 16:04

Loving the replies to hurt voice DfE tweet!

CarrieBlue · 12/06/2020 16:40

Yes please, I have everyone’s uniform in the ironing basket which includes about 20 of DHs shirts!

MsAwesomeDragon · 12/06/2020 17:08

The unions have gone to national level dealing with my school's "plan". It's somewhat concerning that this plan is still being debated on Friday night when the kids come in on Monday (still more than allowed in official guidance, and still no bubbles 🤦). So this is fun, not.

Piggywaspushed · 12/06/2020 17:22

Oh wow. My school got to region and head climbed down on some previous plans (although Union please note, we are still bloody well expected to do it!) so national is something else!!

Piggywaspushed · 12/06/2020 17:23

only wear face coverings in an enclosed space

But wait...

Don't mention the schools! (topical)

MsAwesomeDragon · 12/06/2020 17:26

I know. Our poor school reps only stepped into that role at the start of this crisis, so this is well beyond their experience level. So they took it to regional level, who spoke to the head and he didn't back down, so now it's gone to national level, in BOTH the NEU and the NASUWT. We've even put forward alternative plans that wouldn't be too difficult to adjust to logistically and would fit the guidance, but no.

CallmeAngelina · 12/06/2020 17:47

Just seen a serious "just being creative" suggestion that schools open in September in shifts, 7am - 1pm, then 1.30 - 7.30pm!
How thoughtful that they've allowed a full 30 minutes to clean the classrooms have lunch inbetween!

Piggywaspushed · 12/06/2020 17:51

I am on that thread . Just responded to the 'but Sweden' crap.

Didn't know until today that schools are getting no extra funding or monies for cleaning equipment ( we all know that's why they said no PPE!)

CallmeAngelina · 12/06/2020 17:54

We've been open (more widely) since June 1st for all who have requested a place, and the same will happen from June 22nd (despite what the media would have you believe).
Still getting slated though. PISSED OFF.

CallmeAngelina · 12/06/2020 18:00

And is it just me who's cynically predicting that all the "commandeer the local church hall for classrooms" are all going to come to collapse in a pile of dust?

greathat · 12/06/2020 18:05

Is it just be or has there been less teacher bashing today. I must admit here that if it's just continued on an d thread I've prob just blocked it
