You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff. Baiters and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here only if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the toffee vodka is hidden.

If you are fed up with cakes and biscuits there is now a cheeseboard on offer

Callme we jave just do our annual reports which look the same as usual, just finished my year 9 ones.

RigaBalsam · 08/06/2020 19:00

Have just had to

flumposie · 08/06/2020 19:01

The only reports that we have been asked to write are for year 12 which are used to write ucas reports. Our school dropped reports for everyone else at the start of this year due to sending effort and attainment grades out every term.

MsAwesomeDragon · 08/06/2020 19:02

We've cancelled formal reports, haven't done any assessments in lockdown so can't give attainment grades. We're giving grades for engagement in remote learning. Basically A brilliant, doing everything we ask and sending it in on time, down to E not sent anything in at all, nothing completed as far as we can tell.

mlou93 · 08/06/2020 19:18

Our reports have been exactly the same format as before. We've had to message parents so that we could fill out the child's comments section, with mixed results. Why they can't ask their child what they have enjoyed this year is beyond me.

ChloeDecker · 08/06/2020 19:18

Yep, had to write full reports for Year 10 (all other year groups done earlier in the year) plus just tracking for other year groups.
In the full reports CallmeAngelina, I summarised where they were at, taking in to consideration all work since Sept-what they could work on remote-learning wise (such as size of handwriting or avoiding one word answers) plus a small comment about planning to go over certain topics again next year etc.
Took ages but glad they are done now!
Have another Year 12 piece of work to Mark in the next couple of weeks so I can start writing their subject UCAS paragraphs if needed.
No rest for the wicked! lazy loony lefties Grin

FrippEnos · 08/06/2020 19:18

After being on the 11 weeks thread I have just asked MN on site stuff for a block poster button,

I already know the answer but sometimes you have to try,

CallmeAngelina · 08/06/2020 19:19

Is there any statutory requirement to send them?

CallmeAngelina · 08/06/2020 19:19

Saw that, Fripp. Who's pissing you off? In particular, I mean!

FrippEnos · 08/06/2020 19:20

We are another school that cancelled reports. TBH give the lack of response from some pupils I would have little or nothing to write about.

CallmeAngelina · 08/06/2020 19:21

Wouldn't be our Gallic friend would it?

FrippEnos · 08/06/2020 19:24

Yes it would.

Same shit different day.

Wait4nothing · 08/06/2020 19:37

We sent very slimmed down reports in primary - basically teacher assessments as of end of spring 1 and a personal comment about the year to that point. I think it was the right thing to do and was very valued by our parents from what I’ve heard.

DrMadelineMaxwell · 08/06/2020 19:42

Just finished a much-slimmed down version of our reports - just core subjects and a general comment. No end of key stage data for my y6s.

And I've found out we're having a full in-person staff meeting Monday morning! That won't go down well with a few who are worrying about the virus considering their age/conditions.

By then we should have had the guidelines (released by Welsh gov this coming Wed) to finally explain how we are supposed to do what they announced last Wed.

A survey of parents shows that 85% of parents want their children to come back. We are opening to all year groups, on a rota basis. But at this point in the game we don't know what that rota will look like.

pinkrocker · 08/06/2020 19:53

Talking of kids going back, I really want my two DC to go back in one day a week, on the day I'm in school. Am I unreasonable to tell them they have to, because I'm worried about them being home in the house all day. They're responsible enough to not do anything silly but neither will work, wash, get dressed or do anything but play Minecraft or animate all day while I'm in school. I've bought a 2nd hand laptop and there were tears because neither wanted to use it when I said they had to do their work. DD has stropped off because I asked her to make homework folders on the new laptop. DS has cried because I have made him work. I'm failing as a mam and a teacher because I don't seem to be able to be at my desk, answer emails, be encouraging and supportive of my students, and also keep an eye on what my two are doing, I'm almost in tears I'm so tired.
How can I persuade them to go to school?!

Asuitablecat · 08/06/2020 20:00

We've moved our opening back to 22nd. Which is just as well, because I may not have childcareGrin

Appuskidu · 08/06/2020 20:02

How have threads entirely about pubs opening, ended up with people bitching about teachers and unions?!

CallmeAngelina · 08/06/2020 20:03

We opened for Nursery, Rec, Yrs 1 & 6 last Monday, but the Head has warned us to make any necessary childcare arrangements for the 22nd, when we are assuming she will open the floodgates doors to all other year groups.
I am DREADING it.

Asuitablecat · 08/06/2020 20:08

Because kids need to be in.school so people can work I n pubs....no...wait....head explodes

pfrench · 08/06/2020 20:09

The teacher bashing comes in waves - it's 9 - 10am, then 3 - 4.30. It's like an orchestrated thing. Just avoid the coronavirus board during those hours.

pfrench · 08/06/2020 20:11

when we are assuming she will open the floodgates doors to all other year groups.

Has that been a thing announced today?

I don't mind giving it a go so long as it still seems as if schools are 'safe' by then (ie, not many cases linked to schools - obviously no one is keeping data on this). But if we have to have separate toilets for bubbles and so on, then we are stuffed. Oh, also no staff, so there would have to have been some centralised work on BAME staff.

I'd like to know, because then I know what direction I'm going in with this home learning shite lesson planning. If I'm going to be in class then things will be much easier.

Appuskidu · 08/06/2020 20:17

I’ve just seen this on Twitter

The Eight Republic - half term over - primaries under pressure- solidarity
Piggywaspushed · 08/06/2020 20:20

I did think Hancock was extremely evasive today when asked about schools. But then they always are.

Piggywaspushed · 08/06/2020 20:22

How have threads entirely about pubs opening, ended up with people bitching about teachers and unions?!

Because of the way the OP set it up from the start/

What was that : 8% of families are reliant on primary schools for childcare?

Appuskidu · 08/06/2020 20:29

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/coronavirus/3932452-Outdoors-only-pubs-and-restaurants-to-reopen-on-June-22nd

It was this one-it had nothing to do with schools!
