You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff. Baiters and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here only if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the toffee vodka is hidden.

If you are fed up with cakes and biscuits there is now a cheeseboard on offer

I really feel for the practical subjects. I'm sure you'll be needed pink, absolutely so.

Every single lesson is practical in sen. We have some more able groups, some even working at a primary mainstream level to a point as for them it's more the emotional issues linked to autism and other conditions or unstable homes that's a barrier to learning, but it's still v practical with lots of opportunities to have down time. Some pupils have beanbags etc as a part of specific sensory programmes or just because they do need to flop and roll about a lot. We also use rooms set up for various things, eg sensory room etc. Argh. It's going to be so hard coming out of this.

Mistressiggi · 07/06/2020 21:19

I've heard nothing regarding subjects/timetabling. I'm part time so very interested in how they will work that. I think a lot is coming out this week.

Beawillalwaysbetopdog · 07/06/2020 21:24

Pink, I'm sure, like me you'll be needed, it's just that theory only lessons will suck. 2020 is the year that teaching had all the fun sucked out of it Sad

My daughter starts a vocational course in Sep and tried to persuade me to join her as there's loads of places left - I was almost tempted!

I'm not sure who I feel sorriest for - us or the kids.

FrippEnos · 07/06/2020 21:36

pinkrocker

Basically what Beawillalwaysbetopdog posted.

But we will be needed, but our jobs will be very different.

pooiepooie25 · 07/06/2020 21:36

CallmeAngelina well done for replying on that disgusting thread asking why that awful person thinks more of us should walk. What a fucking awful person. What is wrong with these people?

FrippEnos · 07/06/2020 21:38

ChloeDecker

we have been wiping everything down with wipes for computing. but when we open for year 10, apart from KW provision our computers rooms will be shut.

CallmeAngelina · 07/06/2020 21:42

Thanks. I told myself to stay away, but every now and again I succumb and bite, and then regret it.

FrippEnos · 07/06/2020 21:53

CallmeAngelina

Is that the amphibian royalty still spewing rubbish about teacher redundancies and reduced pay?

How she hasn't been deleted is beyond me.

StrawberryJam200 · 07/06/2020 22:02

I read somewhere that sounded knowledgeable (sorry can't remember where but google it) that keyboard hygiene can be maintained by either using a special plastic cover that goes over the top (disposable?? Not sure, maybe you have enough for a day's worth of use and quarantine them?) or ensuring all users sanitise hands before and after use. Guess the latter doesn't deal with aerosols from breath but that applies to any desk etc.

pinkrocker · 07/06/2020 22:03

Chloe NOOOO really?!? That subject's what I've offered to teach!!! Shit... man!!!

ChloeDecker · 07/06/2020 22:10

Just a ‘maybe’ or a heads up without more info or guidance pinkrocker, I don’t really know! The cleaning of every keyboard and mouse etc between every lesson plus the physical closeness of the computers to fit them in means it’s a possibility lessons might not be able to go ahead using them. May well depend on a classroom layout but I know we have crammed as many machines as we can into a small space in an old school building. I’m hoping they go ahead but you never know...

GravityFalls · 07/06/2020 22:14

I can’t teach my subject without computers. Apparently they’re putting hand sanitizer gel things outside computer rooms and we just have to make sure students use them before they come in.

pinkrocker · 07/06/2020 22:30

Well Chloe and Gravity here's hoping that either disposable keyboard covers or something are available Grin Our tech room is pretty big so we can move every other PC to the outer desks (I hope) I'm going to be positive about this. Fingers crossed!

pfrench · 07/06/2020 22:55

We've allocated the computer room to our KW kids - that way they can access the online learning put up by each class, and have HLTA support keeping them going.

phlebasconsidered · 07/06/2020 23:38

Neuro my mental abilities definitely fall when I have high thyroid antibodies. I am lucky enough to be prescribed T3 and it was a life changer. It doesnt matter how good my T4 is, if my T3 is rubbish I can't function. It took 10 years under a hospital Endo to let them prescribe it. After 2 days it was like a light switched on in my brain. T4 does my physical, T3 my mental.

ChloeDecker · 08/06/2020 07:39

@pfrench

Yeah same here-makes sense for them to be able to use for their work and we can keep them a couple of seats apart, whilst using the same computer throughout the day. They will stay in those rooms once the Year 10s and 12s start coming in, who will be in normal classrooms for our ‘face to face’ meetings not in the practical rooms and the computer rooms where the KW children will be. September will be interesting. I’ll be hearing more plans this week and feed back to you all and see if it’s similar to plans your schools are making. Have a good day all!

Found this on twitter:

We are an easy target aren't we. If we respond, we are loony lefty unionised fruitcake communist agitators and when we don't respond we are guilty of everything ever. I think global warming was definitely our fault too. And Monster Munch. Can't win.

AppleKatie · 08/06/2020 08:20

The cultural hangover from adolescence. It’s quite a useful marker for picking out those that never grew up. They are the ones that hate teachers on principle.

Asuitablecat · 08/06/2020 08:28

The loony left always amuses me, but I suspect it's cos school can effect a lot of. Social change and seeks to create a more mobile and equal society. Which therefore makes us the bad guys. Which I never understand.

NeurotrashWarrior · 08/06/2020 08:32

Those threads are a wall of misdirected anger.

They should be mounting campaigns that the rest of the country see, not teachers and other parents. We can only fully reopen if the whole country take this seriously.

There's an attitude I've picked up from some that "I'm not going to be made to wear a mask" etc and they then say "the vulnerable should be at home" not recognising that we can't get schools back till the vulnerable can be at much less risk. People did it for the nhs, they need to do it for school
children.

NeurotrashWarrior · 08/06/2020 08:36

Wow you're a hero for getting t3 phleb!

I think my t3 is ok but I know I'm v sensitive to small changes in t4 both physically and mentally.

My mind really struggled before I had asthma diagnosed. I'd been wading along on less than optimal air for a long time. June is when my peak flow is amazing and now on Fostair it's the highest it's ever been.

Piggywaspushed · 08/06/2020 08:56

Looking at the CV threads, hardly any are really about health which is where it nominally sits. First thing this morning nearly half of them were about education. Those posters know that is they put them in the education board, where they rightfully sit, they wouldn't get the attention.

There is one thread about blood groups, and a few about symptoms.

Obviously on MN, schools and education are going to be bigger topics than they are in the wider world, but no other job role comes under anything like as much scrutiny : and that includes the government! I do think there is an element of bullying from posters who just believe themselves better than us. And I think there are elements of misogyny in bullying a largely female profession : look at the way we are slapped down if any of us mentions we are also working from home with children to wrangle. They don't think that counts because we are not doing 'proper jobs'.

pfrench · 08/06/2020 09:11

a few about symptoms

Yes, but one of those is by a teacher, who is basically being told to shut up and get back to work. Hahahaha.. it's just bullying.

I almost put a new thread up there this morning, you can probably imagine content, but deleted it. I really need to get tomorrow's lessons sorted.

Was up until 1am last night getting everything finished for this week, but then things started to go wrong with tech. SO ANNOYING.

pfrench · 08/06/2020 09:25

I couldn't help it. Suggested they move it.

Piggywaspushed · 08/06/2020 09:27

Seen it p. There are even more threads about schools now than when I looked.

New hobby is writing to MPs : perhaps parents could turn that into an English lesson Grin
