You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff. Baiters and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here only if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the toffee vodka is hidden.

If you are fed up with cakes and biscuits there is now a cheeseboard on offer

Ha ha mistressiggi you and me both!

Mistressiggi · 07/06/2020 00:50

There is something seriously amiss with that poster's empathy settings.

JimmyGrimble · 07/06/2020 01:03

We’re on mental health now. Of course. I can’t even.

Mistressiggi · 07/06/2020 01:07

Oh I know. Definitely bed time! Flowers

NeurotrashWarrior · 07/06/2020 07:01

The blood thing hasn't yet been peer reviewed so it's hugely mainstream. I wouldn't be surprised though.

Please report threads and posts. If there's enough reports it may have an impact.

It's an own goal really as it's making me a tiny bit fonder of the Tory government....ConfusedShock they're already great compared to some here!

NeurotrashWarrior · 07/06/2020 07:33

Thank you so much for the reading and writing tips and advice, he will write answers on worksheets etc, just none of the free writing tasks set but school. Interestingly it looks like from a school sharing group that y1 are happy to write but not many of y2 at all. I know many fellow y2 parents are finding that bit hard!

I agree non fiction is as good as, I think I was just a bit taken aback when he so stoically stopped accepting stories. But then he's developing his own interests at the mo. Probably an age thing as well as reaction to what's going on. Also, I didn't do reading till a bit older. Hated writing too!

Piggywaspushed · 07/06/2020 07:40

Lets' be honest, if anyone is 'hysterical' ( I hate that word! And 'thrown under the bus') it isn't the teachers on here, or the people who are concerned about the virus , or most of the worried parents.

Most of the notably unpleasant posters just have an (economy driven) agenda and that's that. It's got nothing to do with mental health : that's a cover they think no one can argue with.

WhyNotMe40 · 07/06/2020 08:32

I have also found "those" threads were affecting my MH. I'm staying well away now!
I know I'm not the sort of teacher I wanted to be when I started. My own kids and life complications just take up too much of my head space and time. I was going to resign but can't as DHs job is under threat of redundancy. Those threads just make me feel worse about being a less than great teacher.

NeurotrashWarrior · 07/06/2020 08:38

I've wandered back to FWR and feel refreshed.

Going to be seriously cutting back on SM I think this week.

FlamingoAndJohn · 07/06/2020 08:40

Starting a thread with, ‘this isn’t teacher bashing’ is like saying ‘I’m not racist, but’.

Mistressiggi · 07/06/2020 08:54

Ooh, the JRRowling thread is really good Smile
I'm off to the garden centre today so I can fulfil the "pottering around in the garden" stereotype Grin

Piggywaspushed · 07/06/2020 08:57

Aren't some of the more strident 'it's all the teachers' fault'posters on FWR boards?

There is certainly quite a few who like to blame us for women being trapped at home.

NeurotrashWarrior · 07/06/2020 09:06

Piggy, yes I have noticed that. Interesting times!

It's very complex as yes, women are in many cases the ones doing more childcare. Esp single parents. A friend is experiencing this badly atm. So schools opening benefit them. At the same time, 82% of primary school teachers (and probably more tas) are women. And many have children. And so throwing back on the coal face so to speak is a risk. And to blame the economy on the 8% of the workforce who have primary agreed children is bollocks.

Anyway, I think I'm going to be doing more pointing out of the fact that schools are open, and are opening. But the current 14 day isolation is going to hit them badly. We've started to get staff SI due to partners having symptoms etc.

My sons school specifically prioritised families who were struggling, single mums definitely being some of them.

I'm still unsure where my feminism lies. If women had true equity and equality, being a sahp would be easy and not potentially an issue to worry re vulnerability.

JK is a Shero today!

greathat · 07/06/2020 09:37

Is t there some rule that people aren't supposed to start threads about threads, they new teacher bashing one is very def about the old teacher bashing one

echt · 07/06/2020 09:38

What is FWR?

NeurotrashWarrior · 07/06/2020 09:47

Female and women's rights board.

NeurotrashWarrior · 07/06/2020 10:06

Or rather, feminist chat now.

TheHoneyBadger · 07/06/2020 10:30

That 2021 thread is gross.

I keep getting the analogy in my head of passengers who fly economy then scream at the hostesses that the people at the front of the plane got champagne and peanuts and they didn’t.

Piggywaspushed · 07/06/2020 10:32

I think, sadly, the data and charts thread has been a bit taken over by a poster now, too, and the OP has more or less vanished. I used to find that thread really interesting and analytical but now it has become a bit patronising and one poster is somewhat obsessed by getting schools opened and lockdown gone, and the country they live in. Not sure what you think neuro.

NeurotrashWarrior · 07/06/2020 11:17

I've been thinking the same piggy. I'm still following as the links to primary sources of info are useful.

Piggywaspushed · 07/06/2020 11:20

Same. It's just been a bit hijacked!

My DH (private school, live lessons : oh a new thread o this ahs popped up!) has just admitted he ahs not marked a single piece of work since lockdown.
But, of course, live lessons must be so much better!!

StaffAssociationRepresentative · 07/06/2020 11:21

Crikey they are busy this morning on Aibu. Usual bollocks about zoom/going back/ teacher workload

I am off to potter around the garden before coming to do some planning

I'm about to do some marking! So my year 12 will know if they're managing to keep up properly. The ones who've submitted their work are definitely keeping up, the ones who haven't, aren't. But they do need to know if there are little mistakes they are making in their working and how to improve.

StaffAssociationRepresentative · 07/06/2020 11:25

@Mistressiggi - ooh I would love to visit a garden centre. Scared I might be spotted by a basher shoutingacross the car park ‘ oi staffrep, get your arse back to that computer and plan some lessons! I pay your wages you lazy cow!’

Sorry, been dipping in and out so not posted much. But I wanted to say that I was heartened to recognise some of you on FWR!

The JKR thread made me feel hopeful last night.
