Face masks

I just wondered if anyone's planning on wearing a face mask to school? I'm sure I read somewhere that the dfe didn't think they were appropriate. Lots of the teachers in my school will be wearing them. I'm torn. I feel so sad at what the children are coming in to as it is but equally, i'd like to protect myself and my family.

Masks don’t protect you, they protect others from you, so fairly pointless unless all of your pupils are wearing them.

I think wearing a clear visor would be a good option to have as the children can still see your face. We are not allowed these or face masks though because the DfE said they are not essential. I think people should be given the choice to wear one or not to make them feel more comfortable.

@Flipflopflapflip thanks, I was completely ignorant to this! I thought they offered us protection.

I’m secondary and I won’t be wearing anything on my face. I think it would be very difficult for the kids to understand us and I have a few pupils in some classes who have Hearing problems and rely on a mixture of voice and lip reading. I think for the amount of time I spend talking, it would become very uncomfortable.

We've been given the option of visors (as long as we provide them ourselves.) Head doesn't want other face masks.

Face covering ( cloth or general surgical masks) will offer no protection to the wearer and are to protect others from droplet spread of the mask wearer.

We’ve been told no face masks if any sort to be worn by staff or pupils on the premises. We have gloves for dealing with first aid exactly as we would have done pre Covid but we have no other PPE.

Do masks offer no protection to the wearer? Seems counter intuitive that stopping something flying into your mouth or up your nose wouldn't help. Would need a visor for eyes though. Staff will be passing staff - if we all wore masks that would help surely, even if pupils didn't.
I'm not planning on wearing a mask in the classroom but would be happy to wear one in the corridors etc, if other adults did.

Head switched to no masks/visors after all as decided all staff needed to do the same and KS1 staff felt they scared the children.
