You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff. Baiters and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here only if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the toffee vodka is hidden.

If you are fed up with cakes and biscuits there is now a cheeseboard on offer

But what does 'go back' even mean??

RigaBalsam · 24/05/2020 17:11

Piggy what did he say about a quarter I was to busy fuming.

SansaSnark · 24/05/2020 17:11

I feel really sorry for secondary heads right now- the first DfE advice clearly implied that Y10/12 could go back from 1st June, and I do think some heads were overstepping, but most were just trying their best and have probably been working all weekend to make this happen.

I cannot believe this was decided today, so why not let us know on Friday.

starrynight19 · 24/05/2020 17:12

He said no more than a 1/4 of year 10 and 12 in at one time from 15th June.
Primary to open to 4 year groups on 1st.
And that he was working with unions and teachers Confused

ineedaholidaynow · 24/05/2020 17:13

Do you think the detailed guidance will come out now?

Piggywaspushed · 24/05/2020 17:14

And today no words such as some face to face support.

Piggywaspushed · 24/05/2020 17:15

The guidance may drop during this briefing : has happened before.

starrynight19 · 24/05/2020 17:17

Given early years guidance has only just come out today a week before we are due back I wouldn’t hold you breath for it anytime soon.

SansaSnark · 24/05/2020 17:18

Guidance for secondary schools on 12th June.

SansaSnark · 24/05/2020 17:19

Sorry that was sarcasm not an actual thing, although I think that it's not unlikely.

RigaBalsam · 24/05/2020 17:20

And today no words such as some face to face support.

Now its some content.

StrawberryJam200 · 24/05/2020 17:20

@SansaSnark 12th June?? The Friday before??

I spoke too soon! Looks like it will be the 15th June not 8th June.
The thing is, if the guidance and policy didn’t change so bloody often....

(Loving the Zoom not working currently on the Briefing-because Zoom is so reliable!) Grin

Two weeks ago, Boris said that he hoped that yrs 10 and 12 might get 'some face-to-face contact' before the end of the summer term. Where did Heads get the idea they were going back on the 1st?

SansaSnark · 24/05/2020 17:34

Sorry the 12th June thing was sarcasm.

eitak22 · 24/05/2020 17:35

Anyone else worried that a lot of people will stop following lockdown and social distancing now that a senior aide has been caught but thats fine?

The whole point of bubbles is to limit how many people you come into contact with but if the 15 kids I'm working with are in families meeting with other families on the beach then the exposure rate is higher.

The official DfE advice heavily implied that Y10/12 could go back from 1st June, to be fair. I don't think it was unreasonable for heads to make plans for before the 15th, given that the date of the 15th was never mentioned before today.

SansaSnark · 24/05/2020 17:37

@eitak22 Yes, I am concerned. I'm also concerned the government has lost a lot of credibility over this.

ineedaholidaynow · 24/05/2020 17:38

The 15th of June has never been mentioned before. The only dates in any educational guidance has been 1st June. What were Secondary schools meant to do?

ChloeDecker · 24/05/2020 17:38

Where did Heads get the idea they were going back on the 1st?
The first guidance that came out for Primary had a sentence like ‘from 1st June for Years 10 and 12 and I bet some Heads planned for it in case last minute more guidance came out. Maybe easier to plan in case and cancel later if need be? All I know is I am so grateful I am not having to be responsible for this!

ChloeDecker · 24/05/2020 17:39

X posts sorry!

FrippEnos · 24/05/2020 17:44

AQA is releasing the NEA on the 1st, so that makes sense.

Good to know that everyone is talking to each other.

StaffAssociationRepresentative · 24/05/2020 17:48

A quarter in at any one time will still be a nightmare to timetable - given option choices and settings. Plus we still have online teaching for the rest who are not in.

I am very twitchy about what my head will (re)plan having heard that 1/4 of a year group thing.
