Returning after maternity

What strange times we are all in currently!
I need to hand my letter in to state the date I’d like to return back to my teaching post from maternity.
Current circumstances have altered my plans in terms of little one now being clingy with being with me 24/7 and no opportunity to be with family members away from me for any periods of time.
I’ll likely now go back for a day before summer to reacquaint with everything and partner will take a day holiday from work to facilitate this. I’m not sure KiT days will be a possibility as will need grandparents to look after little one but to do that he’ll need time with them beforehand to get used to me not being there.
Will school be ok me saying I’m coming back for just a day before summer!?

Whether they are ok with it or not doesn’t matter. You state what date you will be returning and that’s what happens.
Lots of people say ‘oh but isn’t it really bad to return near the start of the summer hols’ ....but lots of people outside of teaching accrue holidays which we don’t.
As long as you give them proper notice you are entitled to return to your position whenever you want to!
Good luck and enjoy the rest of your maternity leave Smile

Sorry just reread...
KIT days need to be agreed by both the school and you

I went back for the last week of the summer term after my second maternity leave. Not an issue at all.

You absolutely can return day before summer holiday and lots of people do.

Not sure about kit days

I did! I also used my governors day (they give all staff one day a year off as a thank you) on the last day so I didn't even have to go in :) perks of being a teacher and working babies births to work with teaching holidays hehe xx
