I only pop in and out of Mumsnet, mostly on the dating thread but saw one about teaching bashing.
Wow. Just wow.
At a time we should be pulling together some people are just vile.
I had 3 DC - all at different schools and I have to say their teachers have been amazing. Setting work, marking work, making their presence known, basically doing he best in the circumstances, as we all are. Some are working from home, some doing this on top of being at school supervising key workers’ children.
I fed up of reading the whingeing so here’s a positive shout out to you all. And some Flowers and some Gin

@UndertheCedartree - Thank you so much for detailing what your school has done. Delighted to read so lovely things

What would teachers appreciate as a thank you when this is over?
I am putting aside a little money (what I can afford) each week of the lockdown to buy something when it's all over but have no idea what to buy, biscuits for the staff room? So far I've got £20 accumulated. It's for a high school.

I'd like to know this too!

Staffroom supplies are always welcome.

But honestly, I just want my boys back happy and ready to crack on with the syllabus. They are what makes the job a joy (okay they can be annoying at times but that's the challenge)

I have 3 kids (Yr6, Yr10 & Yr12) and am incredibly impressed with the efforts teachers are putting into online education. Must be a nightmare. It’s a tough job at the best of times. I’d also like to thank the teachers on MN who are always giving great advice. You know who you are and especially include @noblegiraffe and @Piggywaspushed HUGE HUGE thanks!!!

@StaffAssociationRepresentative - my staff room was locked last time I went in!

This week I have had another phone call from an SLT to sort our problem with DD and care for her when Dh and I are both in work. We have a new plan from the last one which everyone really is happy with, maybe not the one I spoke to the other week but DD is much happier. Her head of year has phoned due to concerns raised from comments DD made in an online session and is going to be phoning weekly now. Her form tutor has been in touch.

My manager has sent me a text to check in and as an LSA @Sheeeeesh, thank you. I love my job, challenging pupils and all. But it's nice to know people do see that we are there as well, still doing our job. And shrieking 'social distancing' to a bunch of teens who cannot help but gravitate towards each other like magnets Grin

There are no words to describe how brilliant my DC1's teachers are. My other DC's teachers are great, too - but DC1's teachers are just stupendously, mind-bogglingly brilliant. Academically, pastorally, and as human beings. He should be sitting his A levels now, and could easily be doing very little as he will have exceeded the grades for his first choice university however they are calculated - but they have switched more or less overnight to a full-on virtual school, and he is logging on every day for several sessions. He emerges bursting with enthusiasm and excitement about what they have been talking about (they are running a special programme for Upper 6, which is separate from their normal subject lessons). I would give every single one of his teachers a medal, if I could. I don't think they will ever begin to guess how fantastic we think they are.

I think teachers are fab! I used to be one but left and retrained 10 years ago. My dc have had wonderful teachers who have been really dedicated. My dc loves school and can't wait to get back. I think teachers hands are tied at the minute and they're restricted by government advice (lack of) and individual school approaches. My dc school is in a very mixed area and many children wouldn't have access to iPad/ laptop so they're not offering online teaching but that's fine. My dc teacher emails back daily when I send pictures of dc work and tells me how much they miss the children and can't wait to get back.
