The flowers thing...

Can we not? The number of threads asking the same stuff on other branches is doing my head in, but the flower bombing is a really immature response which really isn't doing the profession any favours right now.

I know I've no right to ask and everyone can do as they like, but I honestly think it's giving people ammunition.

No, no they don't! Hence their rage at us!

LolaSmiles · 21/04/2020 10:33

It's such a shame that it's taking over.
One poster with a child in boarding school started a totally reasonable thread about changes to term times and within two pages there's goading about teachers sitting around on full pay doing nothing.

StaffAssociationRepresentative · 21/04/2020 11:40

@FrippEnos - I am so pleased I started that post. I am pleased (that is the wrong word but you all know what I mean) that so many of us felt the same way about the constant bashing of our profession.

Clearly the keyboard warriors are moving onto other things but we need to stay vigilant! KOKO

Mistressiggi · 21/04/2020 12:13

So, is there a decision not to post flowers? Because there's a thread about moving the holidays that is absolutely crying out for them. I like the whole Banksyness of it and felt supported when I saw flowers.
I get that the OP doesn't like them but not sure why her voice carries more weight than those who do.

pinkrocker · 21/04/2020 12:16

I saw that one (and your name Mistressiggi!) but I'm just fed up of it now.

LolaSmiles · 21/04/2020 12:26

I'm still up for flowers and am sticking with my approach of 1/2 reasonable explanations (for the benefit of lurkers) then flowers.

PoopyPanda · 21/04/2020 12:44

@saraclara
instead of posting, some teachers are just posting a flower. I'm not sure why.“

You’re ‘not sure why’?! It’s been explained, multiple times, on this thread before you posted that. And you wonder why people think you are goady. 🙄

BlessYourCottonSocks · 21/04/2020 12:47

I'm still up for the flowers.

It makes me feel a solidarity with all you lovely people who, like myself, can't be bothered to waste any more time on people who are unpleasant and bigoted.

TubereuseNordlys · 21/04/2020 12:55

I'll still flower every now and again (it uses less emotional energy than explanations) - I've been better at just hiding threads going by title.

Like Lola, I'm still happy to post on reasonable threads - there are still a lot of genuinely worried people out there, the GFs are fewer in number but persistent in voice, that's all.

FrippEnos · 21/04/2020 12:56

Mistressiggi

I am happy to post flowers.

I still think that we should.

I have several areas of MN that I won't go in to. but I will post if I see them.

Piggywaspushed · 21/04/2020 13:00

I'm up for flowers . We don't have to agree. Teachers rarely do!

We are humans, as we repeatedly try to state.

ChloeDecker · 21/04/2020 13:08

saraclara is a long standing teacher poster so I don’t think goady (but I can see why in the context of your post) but just has a different opinion.

Glad to have missed this morning’s deleted thread. Well done folks!

circusintown · 21/04/2020 13:14

I agree. It looks so childish and actually doesn't help your cause

ladygracie · 21/04/2020 13:19

I added a proper (slightly stroppy) answer on the one this morning & went back to see how it had gone but it was deleted. Which is good. I totally agree with a couple of reasonable answers and then flowers if needed.

ladygracie · 21/04/2020 13:19

And yes, if staffroom could be taken off active, that would be brilliant.

cheesecurdsandgravy · 21/04/2020 13:38

Thanks for dropping by @circusintown, You’ll probably have more fun if you remain in AIBU and Chat. We’ll just end up setting you extra homework. Actually.

StaffAssociationRepresentative · 21/04/2020 14:31

@Mistressiggi you can continue to post - free choice

StaffAssociationRepresentative · 21/04/2020 14:33

If anyone feels that the Staffroom should be removed from Active please contact MNHQ. I have done so

StaffAssociationRepresentative · 21/04/2020 14:36

@circusintown - you are welcome to your opinion of course. However as a staff association we are fed up with the constant bashing and repeatedly having to answer the same questions or justify ourselves ad infinitum

Thank you @ChloeDecker, I appreciate that.

And yes, not goady at all. I'm being driven every bit as mad by this constant torrent of threads about how shit we all are. I suppose I'd just rather that we took the high road and proved that we're not, rather than giving people more ammunition.
Our solidarity is easy to share on this branch, so I don't really consider that it's important to show it with flowers on those threads, where it can be so easily misinterpreted.

But again, I appear to be in the minority. I appreciate the responses from others, even if I still don't really agree with them.

OP posts:
circusintown · 21/04/2020 15:51

@StaffAssociationRepresentative I totally get that.

How do you think teachers repeatedly posting flower emojis one after the other helps your cause though, especially when it looks so childish?

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 21/04/2020 15:54

@circusintown

Posters try to offer logical and mature responses to attacks but that doesn’t work.

circusintown · 21/04/2020 15:55

@cheesecurdsandgravy why so dismissive? Anyone can go on any of the boards. I'm hugely supportive of teachers actually, I find it interesting to get their take on things. The flowers thing seemed a very strange thing for teachers to do collectively which is why I clicked on this post.

Luckily for me you don't get to banish me to certain boards Confused chat and AIBU in particular. What is that supposed to mean?!

FrippEnos · 21/04/2020 15:55

circusintown

It would depend on what you think the cause actually is.

circusintown · 21/04/2020 15:57

@BeingATwatItsABingThing no, you'll never get there with certain people though. I don't understand where the teacher bashing comes from but I worked for many years in a job that doesn't pay enough and everyone has an opinion on despite not actually having any idea of what we were expected to do. You have my sympathy, it was exhausting!
