The flowers thing...

Can we not? The number of threads asking the same stuff on other branches is doing my head in, but the flower bombing is a really immature response which really isn't doing the profession any favours right now.

I know I've no right to ask and everyone can do as they like, but I honestly think it's giving people ammunition.

@Howaboutanewname - please do not base any decision about your career on what happens on mumsnet! None of this is real life - lots of people hiding behind user names. I bet if we all had to put our real names in then a lot of keyboard warriors and teacher/police/nhs bashers would crawl back under their stones.

We have received some lovely praise from non-teachers on the boycott thread.

I strongly suggest that you avoid all mumsnet threads about schools going back and grumbles about the wrong amount of work being set or wrong IT. Just step back from negativity on here and try a find time for yourself in rl.

@Howaboutanewname, hope you are ok Flowers. The next couple of weeks are going to be really testing in terms of workload and stress - dealing with our own family situations and trying to reassure our pupils. Most parents are understanding, try not to let the shouters get you down.

I've had to hide threads as well lately, it just got too much. Pop back here and have a rant if you need to. I felt so relieved to see supportive threads here. I've been thinking of handing in my notice too, but I'm sure it will get better once we're settled into the new way of teaching and learning.

I disagree that the flowers are an immature response for all the reasons given above, it's reminder of the solidarity we feel for each other.

My school is very supportive and reasonable, the state supplies my laptop and we're all out - no rota. My DC are grown up so I have no calls on my time such as others have.

Still - the workload increase is staggering, mostly the online marking ( English) which takes forever.

@LittleMissnotLittleMrs instead of posting, some teachers are just posting a flower. I'm not sure why. But the thread that frustrated me was one where two or three posters didn't just post a flower. Each post would be 100 or so flowers. Which was an attempt presumably, to derail the thread.

To me, it was a) frustrating because I did want to read the thread, and b) annoying because rather than an admirable display of resistance, it actually just looked childish. And I wanted us to be better than that.

But mine is clearly a minority view, so....

It's equivalent to 'scroll on by' on the Brexit board though. Generally , the only people that annoys are the Brexiteers who come on to derail themselves or have a pop at the Westministerenders. so it's a similar idea. Funnily enough, some people have accused them of being childish but usually the people who come with their anti- agenda who are annoyed because they can't get the posters to bite. But, of course, they aren't likely to be told they are being unprofessional.

It wouldn't enrage me so much if the anti teacher/open the schools mob didn't speak with such an air of authority about epidemiology and education , when they work in neither field.

Some people think teachers are the biggest bunch of lazy, good for nothing, unprofessional tossers yet are absolutely desperate to send their DC back to school for 6 hours a day.

It is interesting that you are pushing an agenda on this, with this must be what those of us that are posting flowers must be doing.

I have seen several threads where posters have worked around the flowers, but then this have been the ones that want to continue the discussion and those that are baiting have left.

Lovely words, but I think to so many of us this has been a constant niggle and , last week, the straw that broke the camel's back : the lack of a safe space to rant. Staffroom is actively motored by some bashers, and , to make it worse, ends up in active. And then our words and opinions are monitored and micro managed. We are actively treated like we are children so I don't really care if we appear childish. All it is is confirmation bias!

Well if they don’t like they can lump. We have to put up with all the horrible things being said and our feelings are being ignored. If staff want to use the flower ok or if they want to ignore all those threads then even better - just don’t post anything to explain/defend our profession especially concerning terms and conditions of employment.

We need to message MNHQ to remove Staffroom from active. A teacher would normally look at threads in education and hopefully swing by to the Staffroom for tea/coffee - I have spare mugs

That was me Blush. On that particular thread, when it looked like it was descending into another bash (and BertNErnie had had a bit of a kicking the night before) I did start with two flowers but the goady posters (plus a new one) kept posting more and more of the same old and I didn’t think the thread was doing anyone any favours/supporting anyone. MNHQ weren’t getting involved through reporting, hence the pretty meadow.
In hindsight, I can see it looked childish but it did stop another bunfight happening at least.
Since then, the threads being started seem to have a kinder tone and discussions look reasonable so maybe, some short term ‘flower power’ worked for some long term gain?

I can't believe the people who have enough time on their hands to trawl through the staffroom just to find stuff to bait us with. Silly naive me I thought the staffroom was just for teachers Blush.

I see the DM pushing the story that some private schools are going to be open during the summer holidays so cue "If private schools can do it, all schools should be doing it".

And on that particular thread perfectly warranted.

It ended up with juts one usual suspect arguing with a bunch of flowers.

It's not just you Chloe, I posted a wall of flowers on a now-deleted thread, and I have to say they were rage-posted Blush

The flowers make me feel less alone. I've been ignoring more threads, and reported the one from this morning, which kudos to MNHQ, was zapped pretty quickly.

Yes, done this and Yes.

Just to show how the flowers have been beneficial to me. I am no longer as stressed about this or as likely to post on threads with the goady, baiting fuckers. Although I will still post responses to parents asking for help.

Just to see that others feel the same way is a huge bonus.

So thanks to StaffAssociationRepresentative for the thread that started this. Appuskidu who I think suggested the flowers and to all those that are taking part.
