Give All Schools Protective Equipment to help protect staff from the Coronavirus

Please sign and share with your colleagues and friends and family. Please share with everyone you know.
The petition needs 10,000 signatures to ensure a response from the government and 100,000 signatures for it to be debated in parliament.

If the government has to provide protective equipment for school staff it may have to think twice before reopening schools prematurely.

I’d rather the PPE went to hospitals and schools didn’t open yet.

Whywhywhy1 · 19/04/2020 12:32

I don’t think it would be practical to have the necessary PPE in primary schools. How much would realistically be needed by adult per day? This would firstly frighten the young children we work with and secondly take away vital PPE needed for the NHS.

Sosounhappy · 19/04/2020 12:34

What about the police, supermarket worker

MyHipsDontLieUnfortunately · 19/04/2020 13:08

Then unfortunately it isn't practical to open schools.

cantdothismuchlonger12 · 19/04/2020 13:13

Utterly ridiculous. Even Tesco staff don’t have PPE, this is a joke surely?

bambinis · 19/04/2020 13:31

Why? Even in hospital, we only wear PPE for confirmed or suspected cases. We don't wear it when we mix (without social distancing as it's impossible in hospitals) with people who yes, could be asymptomatic. But that's the PHE advice. It's a bit daft to make out that schools are more important for PPE than hospital workers.

Everyexitisanentrance · 19/04/2020 14:31

They have PPE in Waitrose stores

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 19/04/2020 14:36

Can we let the dentists have it first, please?

tootiredtoconga · 19/04/2020 14:37

There isn't enough PPE for Nurses and Doctors working in intensive care units, a petition isn't going to magic up a surplus of the stuff.

I’d rather the PPE went to hospitals and schools didn’t open yet.

This.

Dogsaresomucheasier · 20/04/2020 21:38

Waitrose staff have been wearing masks, face shields and gloves!

hippohector · 20/04/2020 22:53

I think the point is that if there is enough support for this petition then the government may have to think twice before reopening schools prematurely.
If there isn’t enough PPE for hospitals then there certainly isn’t enough for schools.

I can understand your concern, but as a teacher, it would be far better for teachers to be tested to see who's had the virus already. Myself and my colleagues wouldn't feel happy turning up to school in PPE. We need hand sanitiser, enough resources for each child to not have to share, and the government to tell all school leaders that teachers who have their young (primary or below) children at home cannot be asked to teach innthe daytime!
