Let's boycott all school threads outside of Education

Honestly guys we are getting a kicking on other threads. We repeatedly have to explain our contracts, holidays, why we are not doing more online, why we should be doing less on ...... it is never ending. So far we have been off for the Easter break plus a max of two weeks. There is a lot of the population that do not need childcare. We are open for key worker children but that gets ignored. All the social distancing issues are ignored. All the ppe requirements are ignored. Now it could be that the trolls just see us as an easy target, hence all the forlough calls. So as a union member, I am requesting that teachers do not have to explain themselves on other threads as we are just fueling the fire. (I have been guilty of this).

So I am calling for a union boycott!

Thank you monty.

LolaSmiles · 20/04/2020 14:46

user
Many of us are still replying in good faith where parents have concerns. Many of us are still offering advice to those genuinely seeking it.

We're just a little fed up of goady posters doing the same old chip on shoulder thing. It's not sinister for people to report trolling and goady threads. People do that across Mumsnet and rightly so because being goady isn't in the spirit of Mumsnet.

There goes the neighbourhood.

Just disengage lola. Step away ...

@Piggywaspushed is right @LolaSmiles - can't fight keyboard warrior hate

#solidarity #teacher mental health

LolaSmiles · 20/04/2020 14:57

Quite, though it's hard for user to argue people are being mean and sinister. I'm taking the approach of polite explanation then flowers.

It's been politely explained to them by a couple of us. Now it's time for flowers. Flowers

I think to an extent we could ignore goady threads ( for example no one is laying flowers on an obviously stressed parent thread right now but offering support). However, if we don't defend ourselves, no one will, and that runs a high risk of posters believing there is no dissent from their views. And I am not at all convinced they would peter out.

Campaigning to reduce visibility of staffroom is a start. Academics Corner achieved this.

disorganisedsecretsquirrel · 20/04/2020 15:03

Another non-teacher here to say thank you. I think you are all doing an amazing job.

My dd is yr13. The last of my dc to finish school. I am very thankful to have had brilliant teachers for all my dc over the last two decades. It's a vocation, a way of life and an incredible skill. Thank you. !

The teacher baiters are just sad bitter individuals who want to 'blame' someone for whatever crap is going on in there lives. Ignore . Truly not worth it.

pinkrocker · 20/04/2020 15:23

I've no idea what user said as they appear to have deleted their comments.
Just wanted to say to you all that we ALL deserve flowers today, (now I'm going back to my marking Grin )

StaffAssociationRepresentative · 20/04/2020 15:26

Excellent thank you MNHQ for the deletions ( and @FlissMumsnet and @RivkaMumsnet)

StaffAssociationRepresentative · 20/04/2020 15:28

@disorganisedsecretsquirrel - thank you for your support

FrippEnos · 20/04/2020 15:41

It seems that some posters are having great difficulty with the flowers response.

They are quite irate at having no one jump at the bait.

I'll get my violin - sny requests?

RigaBalsam · 20/04/2020 16:02

I don't know why there has to be daily when do the schools open threads?

Yet another one today. It's ridiculous you don't get when do the pubs open threads as much. Its an obsession.

StaffAssociationRepresentative · 20/04/2020 17:23

Smile and nod @RigaBalsam - don't engage if you feel your stress levels rising

@FrippEnos and @bettybattenburg - some posters have been rather annoyed with our flowers. We may have even been accused of spamming - however, #bekind

practicallyperfectwithprosecco · 20/04/2020 17:32

We could start a when will the pubs open thread? Don't think it will be as popular though

Piggywaspushed · 20/04/2020 17:35

We'd be told we were ridiculous and endangering public health.

ChloeDecker · 20/04/2020 17:45

Excellent thank you MNHQ for the deletions

Seems they have also had posts deleted on the police thread to. Speaks volumes about their intentions.

ChloeDecker · 20/04/2020 17:46

*too

LolaSmiles · 20/04/2020 17:53

I'd offer a "when will gyms open" thread but I'd imagine that one would get a round of applause from people who hardly ever walk anywhefe who've spent the last few weeks complaining that people run and cycle.

shopaholic85 · 21/04/2020 09:21

Against my better judgement, I clicked on a thread in AIBU titled 'What are teachers actually doing? (or something along those lines). And it had already been reported and taken down.

Piggywaspushed · 21/04/2020 09:29

Excellent work MNHQ!

actually is always the key word, actually!
